It's kind of cheating but P5 is a jRPG , and this is sensible and cool
Nothing sensible about being a thief wearing a bright red tight and long tail guaranteed to get in the way to commit heist.

Influence moved from Ghibli to whatever light novel adaptation is popular now.I don't know what happened in the 2000s to where Japanese designers felt like they need to attach 10,000 accessories to characters. Their 90s designs were simple but very cool.
Looking at this box art just makes me want to play this game
Capes can be sensible

Butts from FFV before Dissidia ruined his outfit.
Luckily you can buy his original outfit as an alt costume in Bravely Second. I liked to wear it when he needed to be an ugly looking job.I totally agree with you. Tiz in bravely default design was great, in the second game though he lost all his style...

There's a reason for it. Major spoilers though. Just finish the game. I really like that part of the story myself.Currently finishing up Bravely Default and was looking into Bravely Second and just realized the character on the cover was Tiz. WTH happened?
Could you explain how?Not including the sequels, this design is pretty sensible.
Joke post?
Competing with Ashe for 'most pointless red miniskirt ever'.Joke post?
I'm leaving.

Noctis from Final Fantasy XV, probably the first time Tetsuya Nomura designed a main character without going over the top with their looks.
She is a very nice design. If I recall, her proportions are still very otaku inspired, but the armor and clothing all work well and she isn't showing huge amounts of skin in battle.
Also, shoutout to Lady Maria.
I'm hoping several posts in here are joke postsJoke post?
Let's see: she looks 15, huge tits, microscopic hot pants that leave half the ass exposed, let's show some thighs because modern anime trope, pointless thin fabric on her hips that makes it look like she's wearing a thong underneath. I hate everything about this design. And the rest of the XC2 ones I've seen aren't much better.
Actually this XC2 character is the sort of shit that comes to my mind when someone says "otaku inspired". Not the badass and sensibly clothed red haired you were quoting. She is a very nice design. So otakus have bodies like that?

Yes I know, but he will always have a blue tunic and red cape to meThat's the chibi version from the box (I think Nomura did this one.)
Dissidia's design is based on the original Amano art.
so Dissidia didn't "ruin" anything.
Joke post?
Ray Gigant's cast are sensible, or at least when it comes to the realm of JRPGs.
Lots of things posted here are...the opposite of sensible to me, lmao. Most are cool, but I wouldn't call them "sensible."
Naminé for me.
Shorts, sweater and a hoodie.
I feel you. Bravely Second is just as great as Bravely Default, but also feels like more of the same. Absolutely worth playing eventually but I think it does make sense to take a break between them.Cool, I'll hopefully finish it up soon. Trying to decide if I want to jump into Bravely Second afterwards or not. Soo many games I need to get through! I've only barely touched Persona 5 lol.
It's so bizarre to me that the first XC in Wii was one of my favorite RPGs I've ever played and yet in physically repulsed by this sequel. What happened?
I wouldn't call going to battle in your pajamas "sensible" either.
This is the strangest pair of shorts and sweater I've seen. Why does it look so mech-y? What are those things around his arms? Is he wearing pants inside his shorts or are those extensions of his shorts?

I've always particularly enjoyed some of the character designs in the Arland trilogy.
What's unique about them is that they are not outlandish or garish, but still very unique and not at all boring. Esty's design there in particular is one of my all-time favourites.
The Witcher 2/3
If anybody wore that in public outside of a cosplay convention they'd get laughed at

Why do you think I've been to Japan so many times?
I may be misremembering images of her without her armor on. You're right, that terrible XB2 design is much more fitting.
Cmon mate if someone went out in a suit of armor they'd get laughed at. People confusing 'sensible' with 'modern fashion' need to rethink what they're looking for.
Also smh no one posted my boi
Lightning looks stupid compared to both the civilians in FFXIII and compared to the normally dressed soldiers.
