Wonder Woman |OT| The World is Ready for You, Gal Gad [SPOILERS]

Diana journeys into Tartarus to fight for the immortal soul of Steve Trevor, which has been tortured for 100 years

of course

After seeing the movie I want this to happen. They got stupid good chemistry and it sucks it will only be for one film.

Plus it would be funny to have the reverse where he feels out of place and now she's comfortable with how things are in mankinds society.

Just saw this movie last night. Fucking hell. I don't want to say it sucked but I didn't like it. Granted,m a not a huge fan of the super hero genre and it's the first DC-verse movie I've seen. It was incredibly corny and the effects left a lot to be desired.

Saw it this morning with a surprisingly large crowd for a Tuesday before noon showing.

Umm. I guess the accents were bad because they had to do something to help Gadot, who I think was the weak link in the entire movie (but a step up from BvS which isn't saying much). And, the action was shot poorly with way too many trailer-shots and heroic posing....

Other than that, it felt ok, which is utterly shocking considering the DC movies so far, and probably fits in the top half of Marvel movies, but nothing astounding. I suppose it is a good thing to shrug my shoulders and go alright then to have a headache like after Suicide Squad, a laughing fit during Batman V Superman, and continuous watch checks like I did during Civil War's last half.

I also (jokingly) want to quiz the makers of the film and the audience to ask "You know, the Nazi's weren't the bad guys in WWI, right?" because the way it paints the Germans is kind of comical.

Also, kind of sad to see a shopping montage in the movie, but oh well.

Bar some wonky CGI and (rare) occasions of Gadoveracting, I enjoyed this tremendously.

Theatre in Belgium cracked up too when, after she takes out the sniper in the church, an extra shouts "hebt ge dat gezien?" ("Did you see that?) in perfect Flemish dialect. Too bad they fucked up the citizen lady in the trenches. Unless I am mistaken she is supposed to speak Dutch (WW answers in it anyway), but it sounds waaay to German, like they got the actress learn the lines phonetically and failed to realise Dutch doesn't sound like that at all

Nifty AND saffron-colored!
The one thing that stood out to me the most was the brief shot of David Thewlis in a cave upper body exposed and he was buff as hell, though not his actual body most likely. It made me feel all kind of weird things.

Despite the dragging beginning and the TV-quality special effects; Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman is the best DC film hero since Reeve's Superman. Absolutely outstanding.

Saw it yesterday and thought it was okay. The last act is terrible and dragged on, and the villain also sucked. Opening act is so-so.

Everything between it is good aside from the slo-mo crap during the action which sometimes ruined the flow. Chris Pine was the highlight for me.

Movie is not perfect, but I was in tears a couple of times. I rank it at number 3 of my favourite origin movies, after Batman Begins and Spider-Man.

Damn, that Steve Trevor
sacrifice
part was amazingly done. Cast is amazing, was a bit disappointed in
Robin Wright
dying so fast, but hey.

You know how they could have ruined it (the Steve Trevor thing)? With a flashback to that bit of dialogue when he says
we're probably going to die
. :)

Man that was amazing. Pine's character was so lovely and when he
sacrificed himself and Diana screamed I was legit shaking in my seat.

So this was cool.

I thought this had a very boring start with some terrible, exposition-heavy dialogue but as soon as Steve appeared, it got better and better until the aftermath of the No Man's Land scene which was hands down the best part of the entire movie and one of the best CBM scenes in... ever? Everything that came before built up beautifully to this portion of the movie and it's all tied up in the romance between Diana and Steve. Great stuff.

And then it just goes downhill in the last act. The gala scene feels awfully cut down and just served to have Diana meet Ludendorff at least once before she kills him. Steve talking to Dr. Poison serves no purpose whatsoever except maybe remind you of her before she reappears to get her mask blown away. And then of course there's the incredibly dull CG fight at the end. Some real X-Men Apcoalypse levels of draining.

I had other issues with the movie before that I managed to somewhat overlook. The villains are so comically bad, they would make Marvel Studios blush. As I mentioned before, Themiscyra is best enjoyed by completely ignoring the dialogue. The overuse of slomo really drags the action down and makes the parts that could have benefitted from it (bullet back into gun for example) feel like "been there done that". And it's so unnecessary too because the real good shit is all very quick and looks super powerful. But all of that I was still ok because it didn't feel like the flaccid, messy third act. Like what exactly was the point of the entire Luddendorf/Sir Patrick/Ares bait and switch? Such a convoluted way to say absolutely nothing. It wasn't quite as bad as MoS, BvS or SS but I just wanted it to end nonetheless. Only the Diana + Steve character moments were somewhat saving graces in the last third.

Ultimately, I think it's an uneven but passable film elevated by Gadot and Pine to something very enjoyable. Pine has been one of my favourite actors for a while so there's no surprise there but some of the early concerns were that he was gonna upstage her, which absolutely wasn't true. Gal Gadot makes a damn fine Wonder Woman and the entire movie stands or falls with her. Her ability to sell Diana's idealistic beliefs is the true strength of this movie. Bless Patty for pulling this performance out of her.

Saw it last night. It was a good movie but I had a few things that irked me. The CG looked *bad* at times, Diana as a girl jumping off the cliff and Steve in the plane big examples. The slo mo walking through no man's land also annoyed me. Other than that it was an enjoyable movie, nothing outstanding though.

Painting from the history segment,

It was a huge undertaking, but I had a small team of super-talented artists to help finish it on time, and Patty & Co. were very supportive along the way. Each panel was painted separately, and stitched together into one massive painting. We tried achieving a classical oil painting look, while working in a way that was easy for the animators to work with (which meant keeping everything on their own layers, painting behind figures, etc.). It took a lot of planning and coordination between multiple artists, but it was well worth the challenge.

List of Artists involved with this painting: Houston Sharp, Igor Sid, Piotr Jablonski, Yuriy Chemezov, Roman Kupriyanov, Eve Ventrue, Max Schulz, Didier Konings, Raffy Ochoa

Steve Trevor and Steve Rogers need to stay away from oversized planes carrying gas :(

DC did it better.

I mean, not that Marvel did it badly - but they focused on the heroism and never had that moment where it felt utterly, painfully real.

Saw it last night with some friends. Was a lot better than i had expected, and without a doubt the best DC movie since The Dark Knight Rises.

My only gripe is that there was a bit much slo-mo going on in action sequences, and the last part of the movie felt a bit uneven, but overall i really enjoyed it. Gal was amazing and Pine did great. Favorite part was the trench and village sequence.

I love wonder woman's character in this movie. It might be naiv but it's hopeful and just at the same time too.

She's kinda a scheming and lying spy in BvS. I was not sure what was bothering me about her characterisation in BvS but now I know why

Nah, Pine's acting couldn't make up for the contrivedness of him having to blow up a plane that was in no danger whatsoever and the CG fight running parallel to it.

The third act felt like it was made with the same mindset that led to MoS and BvS. They had these dramatic moments they wanted to hit but were really struggling to come up with ways to link them. It's hard to believe that the same people who made the excellent No Man's Land scene came up with it.

Well, she certainly had her phases

Fun movie, easily the best DCEU one.

Not many complaints, other than the Ares fight was a be meh, Ares was a bit me in general. And the special effects like really cheesy at times. Like at the end when she flies off.

Still, great movie, will deffo watch the sequel, great job Patty.

Would still put it under Logan and GotG2 tho. Not sure about lego batman, but that's very different I guess.

Watched yesterday, super good stuff. I just love to see super heroes wrecking shit and WW delivered. WW herself is a lot more likeable than I thought she would be.

One thing I'm really confused about is the superpowers. It wasn't really explained was it? One minute she's training humanly and the next she defends herself with some type of force. No one really gets surprised about that except for WW. In this world, is it commonly known that there are super heros or something? Even when WW was fighting the other God, no one seemed to really care much...

Edit: I don't want to be Bob-Sponge either so please someone explain!

In case of the training sequence, the other Amazons know that she is actually the daughter of Zeus and thus has superpowers, they likely were around when the gods walked the Earth, so they're not really shocked. Diana doesn't know about this, so she has no idea what just happened.

If I recall correctly, Steve's companions are told her origin and thus (ultimately) come to accept her abilities when they see her during the No Man's Land scene. I don't think we ever really learn what the villagers (or other Western soldiers) actually think about her (abilities/powers). As for her fight with Ares, with the enormous mayhem going on and the few German soldiers having cornered Charlie, Chief and Sameer, I assume they simply did not come to really focus on Diana or Ares.

In short, I don't think superheroes are common in that world.

After her fight with Ares we don't really see too many German soldiers left and they all seem pretty exhausted.

Aha, this makes a little more sense. It's just not outright obvious.

I was hoping to watch this earlier but it still seems to be doing well if my screening was anything to go by.

I really enjoyed it for the most part. Gadot was a lot better than I was expecting and despite all the negativity seems a perfect fit for the part. He role in BvS was too minor to really judge her, but she absolutely nailed it in this. Diana's relationship with Steve felt genuine and for what felt like the first time in any recent comic-book movie, unforced. It's a real shame they won't share any more screentime together.

The action was well done for the most part - though some of the CG looked a bit iffy at times - and despite seeing much of the action scenes in the trailers, they were still exciting to watch unfold. I think some of the slow motion was a little excessive though.

I love David Thewlis but Ares felt like one of the main weak leaks and it was a bit frustrating to see a sub-par interpretation of him when Greg Rucka's nailed his character several times in the comics recently. But overall, a lot of fun and definitely my favourite DCEU film.

Just got back from my second viewing, man I really dig the relationship between Trevor and Wonder Woman- best on-screen superhero romance by far. When they were fighting together in Veld? Shit was lit.

They really dropped the ball with Ares though, this will be blasphemy to ya'll but I thought Zod and Luthor were great villains, certainly better than the vast majority of MCU villains, so I did have higher hopes when I saw the movie reviewing so well. The whole third act is a mess, from the point the poison gas missile is fired onward is just meh (aside from the Trevor scenes). The fight itself was just stupid, the "ultimate power attack" thing was cringe, I would have preferred some sort of hardcore sword melee.

I expected the twist but did not correctly guess the true Ares- I thought it would have been Dr. Poison since she was the only somewhat interesting antagonist in the story, but alas.

A solid 7/10 IMO, it was better than Suicide Squad, on equal footing with man of Steel andf slightly worse than BvS ultimate cut.

BvS UC is more of a mess than anything in WW.

We saw this last night. I enjoyed it a lot. Not mind blowing, but one of the better comic movies in recent years. My fiance was a bit more mixed. She's a pretty strong feminist and for some reason had bought into all the hype about it being a strong feminist movie and was disappointed that she found a lot of the movie still very sexist. I'd warned her as knowing her I figured she'd come away with that view, but oh well.

Just saw it. My fiancee and I both really liked it. Had some corny parts but didn't think they affected the movie overall.

We're going to do Wonder Woman/Steve Halloween costumes. I'm sure nobody else will think of that!

What was sexist from her perspective? (I ask in a curious manner, not accusatory)

My GF thought the same. (might be missing a couple points, but):
1) short 'average' looking woman was obviously the comic relief and the disfigured was a villain 2) every Amazonian is gorgeous and scantily clothed 3) WW only realizes her 'true power' when her boyfriend of 5 days dies
. We both enjoyed the movie, but we both thought it wasn't great.

That was pretty much my fiance's thoughts as well. Especially the 3rd point. And just that love plotline in general. I guess she hoped a true feminist lead would be more of a female James Bond type rather than a typical female that just falls for the heroic guy.

#1 makes sense. For #2, I would disagree that they were all "gorgeous." Look again and you'll see quite a range. They *were* all physically fit, and I do agree they were scantily clad, but why is that in and of itself sexist if they aren't being ogled by the camera? Some cultures wear more or less clothes than others, no?

A related question: is it sexist that Wonder Woman (the character and the actress they cast) is intended to be absolutely gorgeous?

Edit: for what it's worth, I do sometimes think there's some sexism in that WW is supposed to be a true beauty, but I can't exactly put into words why. Maybe it's for lack of similar but not-so-attractive heroines?

I saw this last night and I loved it.

I loved that WW acted like an actual super hero, and cared for her people and always had hope for those she wants to protect.

The scene
where she crosses the trenches alone was the best part of the movie for me
, she inspired her friends to join her and then eventually they inspire the rest of the soldiers. The action sequences were amazing in this scene all the way to last bit
with the sniper
.

The last action scene could've been trimmed out a bit (maybe a bit less over the top), but it was ok because you actually cared about Diana and her friends and wanted them to succeed.

I like all the actors they picked for their respective roles, I think for the most part they did an excellent job. Also, the chemistry between Gal Gadot and Chris Pine was amazing.

I would rate this an 8/10. Not only was it the best DCEU film, but it would rank up pretty high even when compared to the Marvel movies.

James Bond is a buff horndog who falls in love (or just goes down on) the prettiest girl in the room -- in pretty much every movie, and his reactions to a bond-girl death is usually a "woman-in-refrigerator" trope, and barely seems affected.

As for the sexism/feminism comments I don't really know how to respond other than you can't please everyone, even by taking whatever steps people say they want; partly because being "feminist" means something different depending on who you ask, and Patty Jenkins has never said she was making a feminist film with a lead that doesn't need no man. On the contrary she wanted to make a love story where they need each other. I suppose WW could be made with less attractive people where everyone is on the same "attractiveness level" (whatever that means, and if that's possible), put some more clothes on Amazonians (though they fit the standard gladiator attire), and strip out the part where Trevor and Diana fall in love despite having all the chemistry in the world. But in the end, the previous things I mentioned hardly have anything to do with the equality of the sexes and have more to do with pandering, imo.

Gadot and Pine are among the hottest actors people will see on screen, and even the people in WW clearly agree. I'm alright with this; prefer it even lol

We definitely weren't looking for a political statement or anything. It's just something we talked about on the way home. It was doubly on our minds as we saw it at an Austin Alamo after all the hubub about the all female showing.

Yeah the Alamo showing and the propping up from the media gives me mixed feelings, because of how it frames the film.

Every interview or news clip I've seen about WW or Patty Jenkins is always framed around "first woman director on major superhero, first female superhero film to break box office records and critical acclaim, finally a hero for little girls, etc" to drum up applause.

It's a great success on those fronts but it's also a shame that this is all most media leans on, and it comes off as some kind of propaganda or orchestrated social statement when the film really isn't about that. Every time the mic is passed to Patty expecting her to talk about how WW is a film for feminists, she always responds with "Yeah, that's great -- but I made this film for everyone, and I drew from the classics".

I think I hated Chris Pines character more than anything in this movie. Every time he came on screen I'm like here we go again with his stammering and his boring dialogue.

Some really cheesy moments and DEFINTELY cheesy shots. I really think they needed to cast someone else as Wonder Woman but I guess they were locked in from Batman vs Superman.

I think the only section I really enjoyed was the fight inside the house after No Mans Land

Loved the movie. Easily the best DC movie imo.
And Gal Gadot is gorgeous.

Edit: actually I think that it might be my favourite super hero movie DC or Marvel.
