Microsoft hiring for Horizon Zero Dawn-like game, maybe by Playground (Forza Horizon)

Right... so if it is now nearly 12 months later why didn't he say the games are 6-12 months away instead of 3 years. Why can't we take his words for what they are.

He said he'd just signed deals 3 years out, not that those deals were the only games Microsoft has in the pipeline. It was more about not announcing games right as they start development (see Scalebound, Phantom Dust), rather than teasing what to expect in the future.

Recore has a very cool lead female character, maybe it that gets a second chance it could be something pretty good. First game was decent but clearly unfinished and lacking that big game factor.

Holy shit guys.

Here I fixed it, put this in the OP and change the title so them warriors ease up.

Don't see much 'XboxGAF' there

To clarify: I'm just linking to a few threads that had a lot of fairly negative pre-emption against Horizon leading up to its release, but I'm not necessarily calling out anyone in particular.

There was a fairly large contingent here that believed Horizon wasn't going to be good.

I know some people on Gaf like to shit on HZD for some reason, but it seems that at least in the world of developers it gets the recognition it deserves ( in my opinion ), when it's being rereferenced to while hiring. Sony already got a great game out of this concept, hopefully MS will get another. Everybody wins.

Seriously, you got people seemingly getting angry already over the mere thought that Microsoft may want a game in the same vein for Xbox fans, or at the very least a game with a similar approach to an open world.

XboxGaf Reaction to Horizon Zero Dawn: Boo, Boring, looks like Far Cry, this game sucks and will flop.

XboxGaf Reaction to a posting that MS is possibly looking to make a game like HZD: fuck yeah, this game is gonna be super amazing, we believe in Phil Spencer.

Make up your mind people.

I would love to see where anyone ever said the game looked anything other than awesome from the moment it was shown. At least I know I was always impressed. It was one of the biggest stars of E3 last year.

Why is that relevant? Plenty of people have thought a game might not be good and then found out it actually was good, or it was in fact not good. Why does this apply to anything?

Okay but I don't see XboxGAF

Three pages in and people are still bashing Microsoft for a Horizon "ripoff".

Clearly people haven't recognized the listing is for an environmental artist to work on a game with similar environmental aesthetics.

Congratulations. It's a game with mountains and trees and potential desert zones.

I also don't think this is one of the first party games Phil was referring to as just signed and 2-3 years out. Those sounded like 2nd and 3rd party gets while traveling, not a new IP established by a current (1st/2nd? Can't recall which) party studio.

I'm playing HZD right now, on the last set of "point of no return" missions. It's a really fantastic game. When I saw teasers and pre-release footage, it looked silly. And the game really is a cut-and-paste from any number of Ubisoft titles in terms of objectives, side-quests, collectibles, etc. But I think what sets this on another tier from Far Cry is the world building and story telling, which is really top notch. I mean, you are fighting robot dinosaurs, and the game actually manages to make that make total sense by the time you're all said and done. I'm glad I didn't write this off, which was my initial reaction.

Good for Microsoft for taking note and looking for a new IP to go down some kind of comparable road.

People get called out on here all the time for making predictions. I've seen the thread of people guessing that Microsoft would outsell the PlayStation brought up in threads loads of times with users mocked.

I admitly quickly flicked through the links provided earlier, but I didn't see anything that seemed too venomous. Hell, I thought borderlands looked like shit when I first saw footage of the game, and it's one of my greatest games of all time.

Sometimes I feel like I can't post my thoughts, predictions and opinions on here without them later being used and mocked when I'm wrong.

Need cross-references to this thread, as well as proof they are XBox only gamers.

I'm personally proud of my post from that thread. :D

I don't think it will be. Even if the first game doesn't deliver on the full potential, this is exactly the type of game we should want more of. They are going to have a really exciting foundation from which to continue building from once they complete this game. I don't think it's going to be a disappointment.

Real gamers don't hate on great looking games!

Meh. I stopped playing Horizon about 80% or so through because it was a reskinned Ubisoft game. I have no interest in a reskinned reskin on Xbone.

hah yeah sure not the same game i played either. i got about half way through the game it was phenomenal. The reason i didn't finish it is because previous ps4 and upcoming months were stacked. One of the best and most polished games i played this gen easily.

I'm fine with going after the Horizon: Zero Dawn slice of the pie, because it's a fantastic game to try and emulate, even in the smallest of ways.

What I'm not fine with is taking Playground Games off of Forza Horizon, if it is Playground. I love them more than the mainline series.

:(

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.

They have two teams now.

Uh, when people make these type of posts it's nice to show where the same people who were down on Horizon are now excited by this news. So can we get some comparison posts? Or will this be akin to the "SonyGAF" posts that often get called out? Where is Benny? He hates these type of posts lol.

People complain when a team keeps making the same thing, and now that they're possibly working on something new and exciting we're mad they aren't making more Forza? :p

For next gen? Seems a bit reactionary to go to work on a 3+ year project for your future console to answer back for something you didn't have this gen. Something like that may not be as big of a deal 4 years from now. I feel MS needs more exclusives designed around unique ideas they want to provide gamers rather than having a response for every established successful concept made elsewhere

Being fair and objective, I think Sony internally was billing Killzone as a response to Halo.

If Spencer/Microsoft was smart, they would get Playground Games new open world IP to be an exclusive for them and for them to use the world of Forza Horizon 3. Wouldn't mind some kind of awesome open world game in Australia. Plus, it would be an excellent starting point since the world would be pretty much setup already. At least, this is what I would try to do if I was Spencer/Microsoft.

In no way is this posting a reaction from MS to Horizon. Jesus.
