Clash Royale |OT| Should I keep playing when I’m full on chests?

I can't believe I've been playing this game for a year and a half. Even after thousands and thousands of games, it just doesn't get old to me.

Same here. The 2v2 mode has been a lot of fun so far, even playing with randoms. Hopefully they will make it a permanent thing. Some type of leaderboard would also be fun, but not sure how it could be pulled off. I honestly haven't even touched ladder since yesterday.

The only thing I hate about balance changes is finding a new deck that works. I started to use the Bandit, which has actually been fun to use. It is only level 2 though, which hurts a little bit. I'm 2/4 to level 3. It has been in my shop so many times but never bothered with it, which I now regret.

This is the Bandit deck I've been messing around with in 2v2:
Zap, Bandit, Knight, Battle Ram, Fireball, Furnace, Musketeer, Barbarians. Average elixir is 3.6. It's actually a fairly well rounded deck aside from being a little weak to air.

I thought I saw that the Bandit buffs didn't go live with the update?

Do single ladder and doubles ladder.

Have trophies for each. If you play random, yo get paired with people with similar ranking, If you play with a friend, either get leveled up, down or to the average trophies and battle against similar ranking.

Above level 7 start in Arena 6.

Something like that. But I'm sure they must be cracking their heads thinking what's the best way to put it.

It's insane how overpriced supermagical chest are in the shop. At the highest arena they cost 4900 gems. For that price you can get almost 10 legendary chests or enter 49 grand challenges.

Having obviously overpriced items is pretty standard practice in F2P design. It makes other items seem much more valuable by comparison.

For example, a Legendary Chest is "only" ~$5 compared to the $49 Super Magical Chest. "What a great deal!" says the average punter who would otherwise balk at spending $5 to get a single instance of a random card.

Yup. Currencies and prices are also designed so that you're either a bit short, or have a little extra. It's there to compel you to buy more. "Oh but I only need a few more gems", or "oh I still have some left, might as well top up to use it".

I mean I'm not really gonna fault F2P games for it. Similar tactics are applied everywhere else, like:
- Pricing always being 1 cent off.
- Dairy placed at the back of groceries
- Groceries always fully stocked
- Phone pricing (100USD for extra 32GB? Score!)

I personally never buy anything on CR unless it's on sale. I've probably spent at least 200NZD on this game already. I don't mind spending cash whenever I like the game or the developer.

I don't mind F2P games at all. I mean, I make them after all.

Clash Royale is pretty much the only F2P game I have spent my own money in though. And I've probably spent around NZD$150+. Worth every cent though as I have logged hundreds of hours since launch.

Yeah I've logged hundreds of hours and gladly throw them some money when there's. good special offer. I've probably spent in the neighborhood of $60 USD.

Never buying that arena 11 offer though lol

So apparently there were some sort of leaks in the latest update game code, anybody knows the details?

Some people datamined the new update on Reddit to see what was new. Who knows how much, if any, of it will ever make it into the game. People have done this for past updates and there has been quite a bit that hasn't made it into the game yet.
https://www.reddit.com/r/ClashRoyale/comments/6gu367/clash_royale_191_what_i_found/

I wouldn't be surprised if they introduced tower skins. The update added an image of the king tower to a player profile, so it would make sense to show off a "skin" of some type. We also saw it with the limited time (RED) skin on iOS a few months ago.

Arenas
2 new arenas:
PvE Arena
TvE (Team vs Enemy) Arena

Cards
-Hint to a new legendary building called the bat nest
-Hint to a new common building called NOTINUSE21. No idea on what it is. It uses the stats of the kings tower as a placeholder
-reference to the card "AntiBuilders", "Hunter" and "Gift Pony"
-Stun effect implemented in the game. Used by Mega knight?
-3 new legendary card (troops) being tested in game files. No info about those

Challenges
-In challenges you can win skins or ChestWithCardTheme (Some sort of special chest?)
-Gold rush challenges, you can win a princess gold skin
-Team vs enemy challenge

Skins
-Skins available from lv 3
-Princess tower and king tower are skinnable.
-you can buy skins with gems

Skins Names
King tower (default), Barbarian tower, Bone tower, Goblin Tower, Hog mountain tower, Ice Tower, Jungle tower, Legendary tower, Pekka tower, Royal tower, Spell tower, Training tower, Workshop tower, Pony love tower, Gold Tower

Quests
-Multiple quests: Daily quests, ladder quests, challenge quests, friendly quests, puzzle quests
-puzzle royale: Complete the puzzle to win
-Some examples: win X ladder battles, win X challenge battle, win X friendly battles, collect X chests, hit anything X times with TROOP, use a low avg elixir deck, use an high avg elixir deck, use a specific card, use a specific spell X times, etc.
-Reference to Quest points

PvE
-Puzzles and bosses
-In PvE and TvE you can face multiple waves of enemies

Misc
-Clash royale now runs better on low end devices
-In game, if you drag a card for 20 seconds without releasing it, it will be deselected (TO BE TESTED)
-Mention to "Royal boxes"
-Improved draft challenges with more choices (and better?) choices
-Some adjustment to the droprate of the cards. Probably something minor.

They need to add the ability to see the level of your teammates units in 2v2.

The amount of shitty teammates I've had is astonishing. Had a game earlier where my teammates first move was to send his miner to their king tower. I thought he was trolling me and going to leave the game right after. Nope turns out he sucks as evidenced by many more terrible moves he made.

Had a teammate last game completely miss the hog with their tornado. Their were no units on that side apart from the hog so it couldn't have been easier.

Where are these people when I'm playing ladder?

Par for the course. It doesn't effect your trophies so it's no big deal. Just 3 min of your life wasted.

I've actually done pretty well with 2v2 teammates. Have probably played 50 games and only had a couple that I would describe as bad in the "why do they keep sending their goblin barrel out there naked" lack of strategy way. Most of the time I am getting great teammates AND opponents which is making for really great games.

I've missed with a couple of fireballs and made bad placements of troops on occasion myself, so I can't complain if somebody else doesn't quite nail everything every time.

Don't get me wrong. I love 2v2 mode and the majority of my teammates have been great. I haven't played a single 1v1 this week and gotten all my chests from 2v2.

My favorite part of it is now your troop lvls are carried over instead of having everything at challenge lvl. I run an RG deck, which doesn't work at all at challenge lvls, but works great now that my troop lvls carry over

you're taking it way too seriously, just play with clan mates?

Also, skins sounds like a great way for SC to make some cash, and for us to enjoy collecting more stuff. i'm in.

You should push trophies again because the skill gap between 3800 to 4300 is fucking huge. There are so many wannabes who only survive on tower/card levels in the lower legendary range.

I have two alts in that range and team battles are a horror, horrible plays all around. It gets worse the lower you go.

One issue I have been having for the past few days with 2v2 is sometimes the opposition are placing troops before my teammates cards are even showing up for me. That means there is no time to react before the opponents troops are already on the tower. Probably happening about 15-20% of the time for me at the moment.

Anyone else getting the same thing? I guess there isn't anything you can do about it as I'm guessing it is just a massive lag related issue.

Was very occasionally a problem early on in the single player, but I haven't seen it there for a year.

If you tap on the screen at the start a few times you can get to your troops faster. It could be lag, but it's probably screen taps. They used to catch me off guard until someone told me about this.

At the very start, you can tap the screen as soon as the arena loads in. It bypasses the card screen and goes right into the game. People do that and put troops down right away to catch opponents off guard because they were still in the card menu.

I miss 2v2 already. Luckily it comes back in July. First time I've had to touch ladder in a week.

I'm surprised the Bandit/Battle Ram deck I'm using is working as well as it does in ladder. People sleep on the Bandit a lot and she takes out chunks of tower HP. I hope she appears in my shop soon so I can get it to level 3.

2v2 was fun but I mostly miss it for the risk free chests.

Pretty much this. I change decks a lot, because it's fun. I have all my cards up to tourney level or higher. I'm not amazing at this game, but I'm ok at it. Because I didn't pick a few cards to over level, ladder is tough. Challenge is my go to place for fun and crowns, but chest slots can be rough. The 2vs2 mode made that enjoyable. Please bring it back.

All I did in 2v2 was to play support decks or furnace cycle decks.

Around 80% of teammates quit whenever I'm playing support decks, which was pretty irritating. I had a pretty decent win rate whenever they don't RQ the moment they see my deck.

This game is some serious, unadulterated pay-to-win dogshit. I've played for months so I've given it a lot more chances than I've ever given any other bad game, but at player level 7 and 2400ish trophies I just keep getting matched with and rolled by level 9s with legendaries. I can see there's lots of polish, fun mechanics and potentially quite good game hiding underneath, too bad none of that matters.

I've spent $35 for a game that I play daily for more than 6 months, and I'm at ~3500 trophies and still have a lot of fun. I won't spend again unless a card comes up in the shop that I really want and I don't have the gold (which is unlikely, there are only 3 cards I care about buying at this point).

I also know that joining a clan and getting all the gold and xp from trading mattered a lot.

But if you're still at 2400 trophies, then half your matches aren't against overleveled boys (or at least you win some of those).

Once you get comfortably into Legendary arena so you have all cards eligible to drop, trophy count barely matters so slides don't hurt so much.

I still stand by the idea that the game isn't *really* pay to win. Taking common cards from 11 -> 12 costs 50k gold, which would cost $20 assuming you even had the cards. If don't have the cards, it's basically impossible to buy them -- buying chests won't help and you can only get, what, 100 commons at a time from shop?

So, if you do want to spend money you would have to drop *hundreds* of dollars to accomplish anything real on levels. And it may be straight impossible to do it even if you wanted to. Real money is more useful for rounding up, like if you have one Legendary and need 40k gold to buy one from the store so you can upgrade, but you only have 30k gold or something. Spending more than $5 at a time is generally futile.

I also know that joining a clan and getting all the gold and xp from trading mattered a lot.

Yeah an active clan that fills your requests (and that you can get gold by donating to) is a huge boon.

At that trophy count and tower level, you are actually just entering a place where you are starting to bump up against people playing for a lot longer than you, who have had a lot more chances to gacha legendaries for free. If you are a level 7 matching against level 9s then you are also punching above you weight and are going to find it hard going, but at least know that fundamentally you are a better player than the level 9s you are going up against.

For my own experience, I didn't pay any money until at least about 6 months into playing the game. By that time, playing for free, I already had several Legendaries and had made it to a 4000 trophy count as a Level 9.

It's been so long since I was below 3000, but I thought Lv7 was about right for 2400? I usually thought Lv9 is a requirement to get into 3000+ because you'd roughly have tourney standard cards.

Card and tower levels matter less on higher trophies because more people start using maxed cards (totally doable via donations). Heck my deck is a mix of Lv12-13 Commons, Lv9 Rares, no epics, Lv2 Legendary and I'm still at 4000 ish. We have better players in our clan who have slightly lower card levels but are going strong at 4800. They earn enough gold because they play a lot. I think one of them had 300k in bank because of clan chests, season rewards, challenge rewards and donations.

I have 400k in the bank right now all through the above. I'm waiting to get my golem to lvl 6 and then will do a beat down deck since that seems to be the current meta.

It finally happened, lads.

Yesterday I was granted my first Legendary chest for a win. To date the only Legendary I've pulled was from the chest I spent 500 gems on. Never gotten one as a drop.

That first Legendary was Sparky, who was in my top 3 DO NOT WANT. Bummer.

Today I was hoping to receive an E Wiz, Log, Miner, something versatile.

I got a Lavahound.

Now, this is a great tank, a strong card, I can't complain. It's better than fucking Sparky.

Deck building advice for Arena 8? I have a LV4 Balloon but I kinda want to play something else.

2v2 was fun but I mostly miss it for the risk free chests.

It's not just risk-free chests, it's risk-free learning.

2v2 let's you expirment to your heart's content without risking rank. This is great for weaker players who can learn from better players, observe card synergies and counters, etc.

So, after maintaining all my non-legendaries at tournament-level for so long, I finally got tired of the constant fluctuation between 3500 and 4000 trophies. I upgraded almost all of the cards in my lavaloon deck and now have no trouble staying in the Challenger 1 league, and I was even close to going up to Challenger 2. The only card in my deck that's still lagging behind is fireball.

Speaking of fireball, I steamrolled through the fireball challenge with my lavaloon deck and never lost a match. Too bad the challenge was limited to only 6 wins.

Hey, wanna give me a Lavaloon deck build? My only other legendary is Sparky and I'm only at 2300 trophies.

So I tried using Balloon but I was really shit at it.

This deck is doing better:

Lavahound
Giant Skeleton
Spear Gobs
Skarmy
Minions
Mega Minion
Clone
Rage

Rage gets you there, clone ensures big tower damage from Giant Skel's bombs. Most i use the low cost defenders until i have the elixer and set up but sometimes they can be a great counter-push by themselves thanks to clone.

Biggest weakness is no direct damage but im not sure what to swap out. My gut says Rage but that card is so clutch, especially when you want to get the Giant Skel to tower range.

The slow release of cards is really starting to annoy me. I figured bats would be released this Friday. Nope two weeks from this Friday. There is no excuse for releasing bats 6 weeks after night witch when they are a part of night witch. It'll be 6 months in 2017 and only 4 new cards will have been released. In 2016 they averaged a new card every 2 weeks.

On a more positive note brawl stars is really fun. It definitely can use a bit of polish but it's a great start.

Balance is really hard. Every time they release a new card it has potential to massively disrupt the meta.

Hey, wanna give me a Lavaloon deck build? My only other legendary is Sparky and I'm only at 2300 trophies.

Here's what I use:

But since you don't have Inferno Dragon, you'll need something else to function as a tank-destroyer. One of these might work:

Mega Minion
Inferno Tower
Three Musketeers

I suggest those since they're difficult to kill and also because they're anti-air. The former and the latter can also be used to start a counter-push if they survive.

Keep in mind that an actual lavaloon combo isn't always the best thing to do. Sometimes it's best to use the Lavahound as just a distraction on one side while sending the balloon + support to the other side. Don't put the Lavahound down unless you have one of the 3-elixir cards ready to go as soon as you play it.

Use the Tornado to activate your King tower as soon as you can. Once that's done, you can use Tornado to drag units to the very center so that all 3 towers can tear them apart, and the Tombstone can keep enemies there longer. Also be sure to use Tornado to weaken/kill and slowdown any small units as they make their way towards your tower. It's functionally better than using Zap or Log from my experience. Tornado can also be used to move a dangerous enemy unit to the side you're not attacking. Finally, Tornado can gather up a horde of enemies to a single spot so that they can be taken care of by Witch/Balloon explosion/Fireball/Lavahound Pups. It takes a lot of practice to get used to using Tornado (even I still make mistakes with it sometimes), but it's seriously worth learning.
