I appreciate the help.
What sort of image brightness (at OLED Light 100) should I be expecting in HDR game mode? Less than standard, but more than cinema? I'm going to stop by a local store and play around with the floor model, to see if they have heard of any similar issues.
On my set, HDR game mode and Cinema User (not to be confused with just 'Cinema') have the same exact brightness and HDR tone mapping.
The only other thing that I did not mention is whether you did a clear panel? It runs for about one hour. Ohh one more thing, have you done a factory reset? If you have not, please try these two things. Also how many hours on your set you reckon?

Ok, so HDR Game and Cinema User are the same. Vivid is obviously blowing it out, and then standard is quite bright...and then the last 2 are hdr and cinema?
My guy at the local store was super nice and let me play around with the settings while the demo was running, and that's kind of how it was. I explained to him what was going on with my set and he didn't really know anything about it.
I've tried factory resetting my set. It's brand new, I'd be shocked if it has more than 10 hours on it. Most of that is me tweaking and testing. I haven't even played/watched anything yet. I just spent all this time test it, and this issue immediately showed itself.
I'm guessing this is a one off issue, and not something other purchasers should worry about. Seems isolated.

Alright, I need some help deciding (long-ish post coming).
I'm finally ready to get a 4K TV primarily for console gaming, as I want to pick up a PS4 Pro and a Xbox One X. Since gaming is going to be my focus, input lag is going to be a key focus.
Please forgive me if I ask a question that is easily answered in the OP - I have been trying to research as much as I can, but my head is spinning a bit from the sheer number of sources out there and trying to figure out of reviews are paid or not or how different features stack up against another.
My current TV is an entry level 50" Panasonic plasma (TC-P50U50) that I bought in 2012. Displaylag.com does not have the exact model on there, but does have the TC-P50UT50 which seems very similar and clocks in at 39ms of lag. My only other HDTV/monitor that I have used extensively for console gaming is a Samsung T260HD, so these two screens make up my baseline for image quality and input lag standards.
My wants/needs:
-Screen size of 55" seems ideal for me. I live in a small apartment, and I do not plan on moving somewhere with a living room much bigger than what I currently have in the near future. Even though I've had a 50" TV for 5 years now, I still feel like it can be a lot of screen to watch at once during multiplayer games. Also, the price points on 55" are right in my wheelhouse.
- Image retention. My current plasma bothers the hell out of me with this - white colored HUD elements that don't move (like in Destiny) will be retained for a LONG time, like months. It's not true "burn in" but it sure feels like it.
- This sounds dumb, but another surprising thing about my plasma that bothered me was the amount of heat the thing gives off. Again, in a small apartment (with bad airflow), it causes my living room to heat up very quickly, although I get warm really easily so I may just be especially sensitive to this. It seems that OLED and LED TVs don't have nearly the issues with heat or power consumption that plasmas have so I doubt this will be a huge concern.
- I can't stand the "soap opera effect", so I'll be disabling any "decrease motion blur" effects for all non-gaming stuff. T
- My budget is $2,000, absolute max. I'll need to buy a new TV stand since I can't wall mount in my apartment and my heavy plasma has warped my super cheap current stand.
- I generally don't care about too many smart features, unless I'm overlooking some game-changing stuff since I don't follow smart TV tech too much.
I've basically narrowed it down to 2, but I feel like I need to give additional consideration to the Samsung KS8000. I'll list my perceived pros/cons/specific questions on each.
- Vizio P-Series 55" (P55-C1) Pros: Appears to be the most "well rounded" TV that fits my wants. I can get it for about $900 through a work discount, so I'm very comfortable with the cost. Cons/concerns: The 55" has an IPS panel instead of a VA. I don't know if getting a VA panel is worth the bump in price and the (IMO) unneeded additional size. Upscaling of cable/other lower than 1080p content seems a little weak based on reviews. Questions: Does only one of the HDMI ports supports game mode? The rtings review talks about just HDMI5 having it. Also, the stock stand seems very strange, are there any options out there for a more standard centered stand? Since I can't wall mount, I'd have to keep this in mind when looking at a replacement TV stand.
- LG B6 55" (OLED55B6P) Pro: The overall image quality seems to be absolutely top notch for stuff in my price range. Cons: The price. I can find it from a random Amazon retailer for basically $2k. While the image quality is great, I'm not sure it's $1,100 more than the Vizio P55-C1 great. I'm also a little worried about the input lag - I know firmware updates have helped immensely, but again, for the amount I'd be paying, I feel like it's still too high.
- Samsung KS8000 55" I'll be honest, I researched this one the least. It seems like a great all-around TV, but I'm not sure where to find it new and it seems like the Vizio outclasses it overall, but the 55" does have a VA panel.
So, I guess the absolute TL;DR single question would be: For primarily gaming purposes, does the LG B6's image quality/input lag warrant the $1100 or so price jump from the Vizio P55-C1?
Oh, and one last quick question - I've never bought a TV online, and I definitely do not trust my apartment leasing office to accept a shipment of a TV for me. So, I'd have it shipped to a friend's house, but I don't have easy access to a vehicle a 55" TV will fit in... is it OK to lay the TV flat (in the box, of course) while transporting?

Loving my C6, the picture quality is amazing & this is coming from someone who had a panny plasma.
Quick Question: Has anyone else had issues with the PS4 or Xbox cutting out? My game screen will look messed up or just go black when I change the input, however nothing is wrong with the other sources. Turning the tv off & on doesn't fix it, I have to restart my PS4. Now this sound like a PS4 issue but this only started since I've got the tv. Granted it's only happened twice, but over 3 weeks that's a bit much I think.

thosearemyshoes - I'd go OLED hands down. The picture quality is leagues better than any LCD on the market. When I got rid of my plasma and spent the money on an oled my jaw hit the floor. The difference in picture quality was insane. I wanted to go back to older games just to see how good they could look The B6 is a solid panel. After a year with my E6 (basically the same panel) of heavy use I can say that burn in/retention is not a problem. Use it heavily.
If you're used to 39 ms of input lag then you'll be fine with the B6. You'll fine it plenty responsive in comparison.
OLED. Do it. If you can afford it you'll be so damn happy. I'm never going back to an LCD again.
And yes, you'll be fine if you lay it flat if it's in the original packaging. They put plenty of custom fit foam in there to protect it. Just don't drop it since the B6 is the thinnest TV you could possibly imagine.

So HDTVtest posted a review of the X940E and apparently it's the LCD to beat this year (not counting the flagship ZD9 of course that released on 2016).

In my country the 2017 models are just coming out and the Sony is pretty expensive, but it's only a little more than the 78KS9000. I'm very tempted to pull out the trigger, but I wanna see what the 75 Q8C comes out at (it's the highest model Samsung will bring over).
The Sony is about twice as much as the 65" B7, so OLED is also tempting, but I already have a 70" and giving my seating distance I really don't wanna go smaller than that. Too bad they don't seem to make 70" anymore. I feel it's like the sweetspot in size and price.

So does that mean that the store set wasn't as dim in HDR game as your own one?
Known issue among C6/E6 owners who use a direct HDMI connection. Unless you're using an AVR.
Best Buy just received them but the remote is not the same. No head phone jack for private listening. The skus arew diff but specs on tvs are identical. Just some cosmetic difference as per TCL.

Since the Vizio has an IPS panel, don't get it.
The B6 can be bought for about $1500 if you buy from an unauthorized retail seller (like eBay) so if you don't mind going this route, this would be the best deal for you on this TV. I personally would wait til the C7 hits $2K or below and get that instead.
The KS8000 reviewed well and provided great value, but are hard to find nowadays. This year, it is the Sony X900E that has taken its place but the TCL P607 might have something to say about that. I would wait a little longer for reviews of the TCL to come out. That value is crazy not to consider.

I've only experienced my Xbox not handshaking correctly for 3D when I changed video settings for something on the Xbox, (screen would just turn black). I had to fully reboot to fix, but it only happened once and I haven't had an issue since.
Seems to be a problem that some users experience, though.

Damn man, been having some annoying issues now with my 65B6. Things I didn't have with the EC9300.
Yesterday the TV turned itself off after displaying that screensaver for a while. When I came back and powered it on it showed me a black screen and the cursor but there was nothing I could do. Nothing worked. So I turn it off again and wait a few seconds before trying to turn it on. But this time it completely refused to turn on.
Had to remove the power cable for a few secs and back in for it to work again. And just now while the Tv was on I was checking out the options so it shows the right side bar and it was just stuck on this. Couldn't do a thing except turn it off and this time it kept showing the red power led on the TV and it wouldn't turn on.
Anyone else have this nonsense too?

rtings.com has purchased a set and is doing a review in the coming weeks for the TCL. I have one and while there are are definitely some issues to nitpick, I am satisfied with my purchase so far.

I am on the latest firmware of my country 04.31.10. I read that the latest firmware overall is Russian and should work no problem but I haven't done that yet.
And fucking again, this time the normal settings menu. Just stuck. I see the red light on the remote when I press buttons but nothing happens. Man this is annoying.
Oh great, and the red led on the TV again doesn't turn off. So I'm gonna have to pull the power cable out again. This is really bullshit.
So I've been using the TCL 55p607 for a week. The TV is outstanding - I've had no issues with blacklight bleeding, the Roku interface on this TV is the snappiest of any I've tried, and I'm happily streaming 4K and HDR stuff. Upscaling seems solid too.
I have one issue though. My understanding is that the base PS4 (I'm without a Pro) was patched to allow HDR on HDR/4K capable TVs, even if it couldn't output in 4K. I've been unable to get this to work and can't figure out why. I'd like to see how the HDR features in games like The Witness and UC4 look running on a base PS4.
When I have the PS4 running, my TV won't allow me to access the HDR modes. Same thing on the Ps4 - I am unable to turn HDR on from the settings and receive a "Your TV does not support HDR' message. It's also grayed out in the game menu.

Don't own the tv but I read that there are more robust picture settings in the roku app? Maybe swing over to Avs and see if anyone's posted settings related things in the owner thread

Yeah, I've actually tried that - the setting to switch the picture mode to one of the HDR modes is, similarly, visible but not selectable. I think I'm gonna post in AVS but if anyone else has encountered something, I'd love to know.
The wait to test out and hopefully enjoy my LG 65B6 is terrible. It was delivered Monday. Attached the mounting brackets only for my wife to say "There is no way that thing will fit on the wall mount.". Measured and yep not even close to enough room for it to fit with how high the old owner had it. Not sure whey they had it so high and I should have listened to my wife and brother weeks back when they recommended lowering it.
I spent the other day removing the wall plate, filling in the holes and painting and tonight hope to get it mounted and up.

Yeah. I'm sending mine back, and let's just assume that it was a incredibly odd one off issue. If others start mentioning it then maybe it's a software bug or something. Hell if I know.
I also have the TCL and had this issue as well!
I snooped around the settings and found the issue. In the TCL menu, go to HDMI settings and switch the PS4 input from 1.4 to 2.0. This instantly fixed the issue and the PS4 automatically switched the HDR setting appropriately.

I've been fiddling with both settings since I got the TV and been unable to find something reliable.
Fiddled again watching Rick and Morty last night, animation shows the motion artifacts the worst. Ended up having to set dejudder to 0 or I get too many visual artifacts.
The end result is even credits on shows and movies are full of judder / blur scrolling down the page making them hard to look at.
So much content looks perfect on it but some stuff just looks awful.
Thanks for this. I'm not home now, but is there any chance you could be more specific on the bolded? I thought I had looked through the settings pretty good, and not sure I saw that option.

The U50 is the fastest plasma they made at 27ms, the U54 on Display lag is the warehouse version of it, same set. The UT was the 3D varient with different processing and higher lag. Despite its age, the 60" U50 had a black level of 0.003fL and peak white around 45fL for a native contrast of around 20k:1. It was fantastic in dark rooms, but had nearly no AR coating making it quite poor in bright rooms. B6 is its only competitor and better in a light controlled environment, the LCDs would be an overall downgrade 4k and HDR not withstanding. In a bright room, you'd probably be happier with any of them, though I would wait for the TCL P series review from RTing, and potentially buy that instead.

Yeah man. A lot of things look great on it. I tried out Alien on DVD today, the THX mastered version and it actually looked really decent and I didn't expect that. This evening I've been watching Better Call Saul on Netflix and you just gotta love the extremely deep black levels and how crisp it all looks. This isn't even 4K and I can only imagine how this show looks in 4K. Soon I'll check it out.
As for that, probably only Netflix app on the TV can display 4K right? Since I only have a normal Xbox One. That app isn't gonna do it, right? I checked how much content in my country is in 4K on Netflix and it really isn't all that much sadly. I'm gonna check and see if Getflix still works on the TV app, so I can browse the US content too.

Sold the E6 because 1) I have a pretty great audio setup and hated having the soundbar attached to the tv. It looked hideous. 2) The input lag on the E6 was a bit too high for mouse/keyboard. 3) Although marginally better, this year's TVs are...better.
New C7 already shipped. OLED for lyfe.

As some one who had the Vizio P and exchanged it for a KS8000, I can assure you it does not outclass the KS8000, especially the IPS 55". With that said, get the OLED

So I've logged around 185 hours in BOTW and of those around 160 are in docked mode. A few days ago I noticed a ghostly row of hearts in the top left corner of my 2016 E6. I've ran noise clean once and some random burn in / stuck pixel videos on youtube (probably won't do a thing) and watched a few Futureramas. The hearts are still there although not as visible and a bit more blurry.
Will this go away or am I stuck with this? Thought OLEDs weren't prone to burn ins. Retention, sure, but this?

If it has only been a few days it's most likely retention. You say they're already less visible. Run the noise clean cycle again and watch some TV. Good luck!

Man...the x900e is tempting me but the 65incher is 2k. Feels like a lot but I guess maybe not that much considering I paid the same for a 40inch XBR4 in 2008. heh
My advice is get it.
I have this exact tv and I am delighted with the quality. And this is after experiencing a 2016 LG oled.
Although it did take me a while to get the picture perfect. Turns out you just need to switch off all the image processing (bar local dimming) and set the gamma to -2. Then it is nigh on perfect.
I have been watching lots of YouTube 4k content just for fun over the last few days and some if it is mind blowing on this tv.

Thanks for all the feedback you guys! I'm super intrigued by that TCL P-Series (it's getting a lot of love in this thread too). Depending on the review, I'm thinking that might be the route to go - I'll treat it as more "disposable" in terms of me being more willing to upgrade to OLED in a few years as prices come down.

My favorite TV right now for price/performance is the X900E. I just can't over the fact it doesn't include Dolby Vision and Sony hasn't said anything about a firmware update to include DV support. OLED is the best tech but the price is also a lot higher too and I want some standardized feature sets first before spending all that money on an OLED. Especially when I want to go 65". 65" X900E is $2000 65" LG OLED is 3000-3500.

So I found out that TCL is sold here in Brazil but I can't find the P607 model... all I can find is this P2 series and it's a 2017 model... is it the same TV?

Go X900E instead. Mid range price w/ mid-high range performance.
That's exactly what I'm doing. I'm really enjoying my TCL P607. I think it's the best in terms of price and performance. The blacks are great for movie viewing and can get bright enough for day time viewing. It will definitely hold me over until OLED are more affordable and more 4k/HDR/DV is available along with hdmi 2.1

I want the X900E but in Australia it's $3000, vs $3600 for the LG C7.
The C7 is also available at 3500 in some places while the X900E seems to be full RRP everywhere. So it's... looking hard to justify the X900E here.

It's not low end really, although in America there's a huge difference in pricing. I was fucking gobsmacked when I saw how much it cost in Australia.
Amazon USA prices:
900e = 1400
C7 = 2500 (+78%)
Retail Australian prices:
900e = 3000
C7 = 3600 (+20%)

Yeah and I could have grabbed the X900E 20% off the other day too. I'm still thinking though. Ebay's been having those sales for a while now and they keep doing new codes every month or so.
I was originally hoping the X900E would be 2400 (55") and then I'd be like ~1800-1900 after a code. But it wasn't to be.
