ARMS |OT| (’-‘)-------------

I haven't put any time into MinMin so I didn't know she could permanently charge one arm until she's knocked down. How is that activated?

Is there something to read that tells about every character's special abilities?

Dash and hold the charge, you'll see the giant left arm dragon grow.

And I don't think there is actually. The game is weirdly sparse on really important info on characters and arms.

For Min Min. She has kicks on her air dashes and back dash that deflect attacks and has the "dragon" arm where after you hold a charge or execute a grab and it keeps your arm permanently charged until knockdown.

If you want to learn more about the game in the game's help section in the menu and it will tell you the characters' abilities.

Complete with my own set of notes at the end too. Though it has to be updated to say that leveled up heavy arms except for the blorb will increase throw damage by 5 for each leveled up heavy arm equipped.

Min Min's permanent charge is activated by holding dash or jump (but normally dash) to charge your arms but doing so longer than normal until her left arm transforms into a dragon. Alternatively grabbing an enemy will also turn it into a dragon once the enemy is thrown.

Had a pretty great match using Kid Cobra. He's a bit hard to use and doesn't have the same mobility as Ribbon Girl or Ninjara out of the box, but if you manage to keep your arms charged he becomes the fastest char on the ground. Did a cool finisher against a Min Min, I was dashing everywhere and she was just hitting the air and moving as well so we couldn't hit each other. I charged my fists, then did a left-right dash to evade her attacks which left her open for a 1-2 combo. It was pretty awesome :)

Hold charge until the dragon arm appears, either by dash or by after jump. Or if you successfully grab an opponent.

The help gives tips on each character's special abilities, though they don't give a direct instruction.

Do they eventually plan to have all ARMS allowed? Otherwise, grinding for coins is pointless.

No idea, but I guess that is the intention for the future. Its kind of a custom moves in Smash when the options are a bit limited because of the randomness of acquiring ARMS .

I think they are sticking with the default arms because they are the ones used on the invitational.

Every once in a while some shit like this will happen and I want the ps4's constant share record thing SO BADLY.

Thanks everyone, I'm certainly familiar with the help section but had previously overlooked MinMin' nuances until I heard a little exchange on this stream about her permanently charged arm.

Will definitely read those write ups, thanks for sharing 🙃

The guy on the stream just said the best player he's played was a Helix player, is that you Gore? 😉

The CPU just does not know what to do with Helix man. Just perfected the GP4 Helix and from my perspective he was just doing inexplicable nonsense the entire time. He didn't even really ever attempt a grab (I guess you can't when Guardian is out anyway).

I really want to see if I can do a weighted GP4 (which is what I'm going to start calling doing a GP with wrist weights :p) without dying, but I really wanna try to pull together the info for this tips post before bed.

7 hours or so I've played this game as Kid Cobra and only now I discover his quick dash move.

I just can't seem to stray away from Spring man with 2 boxing gloves. For a long time I was just using 2 toasters, but now I use the Toaster and the Chilla after unlocking it.

I mean I do pretty well. I just want punches, I'm scared of the other arms.

My man. Nothing wrong with sticking to the basics. I'm rocking the same toasters too. No charges, just punches and slides.

Man seekie absolutely destroys mummy and the big mechanical girl. If they get touch by it at all it does full damage and leaves them stunned standing because of armor absorbing the first hit. It's nuts.

Matchmaking in this game seems bad. Like, really bad. :/
It seems to be bad during the morning in Europe (night time in US), perhaps there are few European owners of the game? Any other time of the day matchmaking is fast as lightning for me.

sure it's under help on the title screen. but not everything is described

Got my first perfect match in ranked! Rank 8 fight. Feel sorry for the guy I was fighting, he seemed terribly out of place in rank 8 with the skills he displayed: I dodged 4 of his loosely released rush attacks, for example. Ah well, still proud of this result!

It keeps throwing me against Japanese players. Nintendo still doesn't seem to understand that Japan and Australia aren't actually the same place in terms of latency.
Splatoon did the same thing, which is kind of the reason I'm not going to buy Splatoon 2.

Had to start from scratch on my gfs Switch as mine got borked the other day and sent out for repair. Started ranked and got matched up with a rank 4 guy. Poor dude kept wanting to rematch and got used to get me to rank 5. xD

Is Twintelle "invincible" the entire time the sparks are hovering around her? I'm still not sure when to attack her when she hovers and then lands (where the sparks appear again), so the entire time from right after jumping until even after landing you shouldnt attack her? Or am I maybe overstating how afvantageous the situation is for her when she gets attacked while in spark mode

How about setting region as Europe for example?

Offensive Ribbon is super hard. As MinMin I had to go dual Ram and kick her hands to leave her wide open. She is untouchable in the air and can even jump, grab and jump again if she saw me counter-grabbing, so I decided grabbing her was not an option.

It totally feels like a fighting game. You have to respect some of her options, it reminds me of Bayo in Smash.

Well, that wraps it up for my quest to clear GP 4 on all characters with default arms. (And motion controls, as always.) Ribbon Girl was the last: she was one of my best characters in the Testpunch and GP 4 was progressively becoming much easier for me with experience, so I went in thinking it would be a walk. I was wrong. Maybe I was just tired, slow to react, or otherwise off my game, but my first match (against Byte & Barq) took me about half an hour, leaving me bewildered as to why it was such a disaster.

It pressed me to change my play style quite a bit: I have a tendency to keep a distance and poke, and here I found that Ribbon Girl's aerial game wouldn't do the job as Byte still got a height advantage from jumping on Barq, and Barq would interrupt my rushes if I didn't take him out first. So I adapted to a close-quarters in-your-face style that also had the advantage of reliably keeping Barq out of action, but it took me many rounds to get there. (I don't think I'd drawn B&B in the first match before, and they seem easier to fight on their home stage, which is narrow and low enough to keep them contained. Couldn't count on that here.) This aggression worked for most of the matches from there, but I had to revert to my old keep-away tactics when I reached Hedlok, as I couldn't get in close.

I think the hardest thing to adapt to with Ribbon Girl after playing all the other characters is the lack of a mid-air charge. It's tempting to just punch in mid-air out of habit as she can bounce around so well, but it doesn't do much: if you want to go on the attack it's all about the fast fall. You can't initiate well from the air (like you can with Mechanica or Twintelle) unless you prepare a charge ahead of time.

After playing all the characters, I can confidently say that Helix and Ribbon Girl have the best sound clip on the "Thank you for playing!" screen: they both sing the opening notes of the Arms theme.

Anyway, I should probably buy some arms with the 892 coins I've banked up before I proceed to GP 5 or dabble online, assuming my arms aren't sore tomorrow from running the GP 4 four times in one day. Once I've decided which characters' sets to focus on first, that is.

Any punch that arrives in her aura will be slowed so dramatically that it basically comes to a standstill. Therefore, you're better off not throwing punches into that aura: the chance that Twintelle won't just dodge them is very slim, and it leaves you open to a counter attack.

How much power does this game need, just lost a ranked game because the switch died....whilst it was charging.

Are you using a different charger than the official one? It's all about the power of your charger: a 5V/2A can barely keep the power level steady, so anything below that will only slow the battery drain down. I believe it runs on the same power settings as BOTW does, so that's max handheld specs, which drains the battery as I mentioned here.

Hawkian is that your pink Ninjara? I'm the Mechanica you just fought if so. Good game, you bodied me the first round. We need to trade friend codes I want to play you again, all those matches were really close.

Great matches. You adapted so hard after that first round and I had NOTHING to compensate. I should have probably switched my whole loadout but I wanted to force it. You are the best Mechanica I have fought in ranked so far!

Friendly reminder you can send friend requests to anyone you face in game!

Wow, this game can piss me off like none other. Grand Prix 6, targets with Twindelle against Mechanica. Mechanica just hitting me with the big arms, stunning me and hitting targets at the same time. She's getting 1800 points against my meager 300. I want to sacrifice a goat.

I went against my instinct based on the reported price to content ratio and picked this game up today. No regrets so far. The game's oozing with charm and style and there's enough to keep me occupied without consuming my life like games such as Breath of the Wild do.

So far I've managed to complete grand prix on level 3 with Mechanica and level 4 with Spring Man which apparently gave me access to ranked matches. I'd read complaints about the difficulty and initially I could understand them, but with a bit of practice my level 4 victory with Spring Man was pretty much a straight-through trip without losing a single match. I dread what level 7 is like but for now I'll bask in the glow of my victory.

I played almost exclusively as Mechanica in the test punches I participated in and that preference carries over to the main game. I really wanted to try Byte and Barq pre-release, but after getting a hands-on with them, I can see why people might consider them difficult to utilise, if not outright bad. Reliably jumping on Barq is tougher than it should be and it doesn't seem to be possible if it's attacking or at an elevated level compared to where you jumped from, like the slightly raised area in the centre of the beach level. The AI on Barq being too autonomous is frustrating to work around, though I've had some matches where I've ended up really effective just because of the aerial mobility you possess if the enemy doesn't reliably keep Barq stunned. I'd like to keep trying to be effective with them, but I might cave and end up subbing Spring Man instead.

There's a couple of things I don't like about the game, such as the time limit enabling overly defensive and cowardly play with mobile characters or some of the unbalanced modes in party play but I'd say it's solid mechanically overall. Because of the simplicity of the mechanics, I rarely find myself getting frustrated which is a change from my usual experience with fighting games. The only thing that's annoyed me so far is a Ninjara player who used his defensive teleport and spammed grabs coming out of it. I won by a time over through learning to predict them, but it was still annoying. Considering the level 4 Ninjara AI did a similar thing, I'm going to assume it's intended. Reminds me of the flowchart Ken days back in Street Fighter IV.

Cool game, though. I don't see myself sticking with it for the long-term once I'm done getting all the arms unlocked, but it's a good pick-up-and-play experience. I imagine someone will find some incredibly broken combination of characters and arms at some point and things will go sour online, but for now it's solid and enjoyable.

On the other hand, Twintelle is pissing me off halfway of GP 5. Luckily they've put all the most annoying characters at the beginning of the GP (Min Min, Ninjara, Springman and Twintelle) so maybe the rest of it is easy? Helix Hoops certainly was.
