Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood |OT| Y'all Need to Calm Down

When trying to change the color of your chocobo, can you just feed them all the fruit on one sitting, or do you have to stop when you get the message about the new feathers growing in?

Can I just...ram all 30+ fruits in at once and brace for a messy stable? Or is this something that's gonna take days?
I did it all in one go. I also read somewhere that you should change between fruits while feeding: R G B R G B, not just RRRR GGGG BBBB etc.

In one sitting is fine. You just have to watch out for the order of the fruits. Check this site: http://ffxivchocobo.com/en

I think our run on the lvl.63 dungeon was like 30-40 minutes and no one died on our team. Same with the lvl.62 dungeon (30-40 minutes). Guess it's luck of the draw based on your team and like you said people are playing more cautious with the SB dungeons. ARR & HW dungeons all felt around 15-30 mins like you said.

There's a level 62 dungeon?

Hey y'all. Me and the GF tried making an account for the free trial to give the game a go. My account works fine but when my GF made hers, it instantly came up with an error when trying to add the confirmation code and throws up Error code i2501. I looked around and it seems like a transaction ban? She can't play the game with me until this is sorted out.

Wondering why this happened, are they iffy about making 2 accounts on the same computer/IP address?
It's likely because gil sellers made a bunch of accounts on a single IP back in the day. Try contacting SE chat support.
I don't understand, also, why I, as RDM, am not priority rez all the time. Seeing as how I can instant rez infinitely, surely you'd resurrect me first? No. People resurrect the SAM, or the MNK, while I lie there watching them fail at mechanics.
There are people who might play only one class and aren't specifically aware of the abilities of other classes. Since SB just came out, healers do have more excuse than not raising SMN first back in the day.

Killed yesterday Lakshmi Ex at the 2nd try. It''s rather surprising that it's actually easier than the final story battle, and from what I've been told the other extreme isn't much harder either.

The plans my raid had to sell this just fell off from a cliff haha. This is Garda Ex levels of easy.

About how long do y'all think it would take to level AST to 60 though POTD/Dungeon spam? After the gutting of SCH, I need a healing class because I'm a healer at heart and I'm VERY tempted to buy a jump potion for AST.

Also, is DRK really that bad? SCH, MCH, and DRK were the classes I had at 60 and from what I've been reading it seems like they all suck :(.

DRK is gutted. I switched from PLD to DRK in part due to the animations and stuff (I play Death Knight in WoW, so there's some crossover class fantasy wise), but mostly because it was a million times more fun to actually play. Lots of oGCD's and choices to make when it came to mana and managing it. I switched back to PLD, because PLD is legitimately more fun to play now.

A bunch of DRK's abilities got taken from them, neutered, and then turned into role abilties, they only have two combos now, Dark Passenger is nerfed into the ground, Scourge is gone (so no more DoT management), Blood Price is pathetic. I could go on. It's beyond shitty what they've done to some of the jobs.

If I buy the Job Level Boost for the Monk job, will the cutscenes for the job quest line be added to my journal so I can watch them?

Also, which youtube video do you recommend me to watch to learn how to play monk?

I need to work on all that Garou gear. Looks awesome. Need all the PvP mounts too. How do you get the flying nimbus btw?

I've tried PLD again and then fell asleep 10 minutes later. Then again I was still 50 haha, so not a really fair assessment. I'll stay as DRK, they'll fix us eventually.

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
So I'm just about done with the pre-SB quests.

I'm guessing it's not an accident that the Warriors Darkness look identical to the Warriors of Light in the final 1.0 cinematic?

That level 65 dungeon was great, probably one of my favourite dungeons in the game so far. I also managed to get the aiming hat so now I'm back to wearing good hats on my bard.

You're thinking about it in terms of stereotypical roles within a story, rather than developing roles as characters.

Since you're up to Azim Steppe, it's probably safe for you to read:
In the context of exploring this foreign land, where you get to meet
the leader of the Confederacy and learn how their 'nation' works and how their leadership operates
the odd area under the Ruby Sea which has its own small form of governance and how their leader looks out for his people
the suppressed people of Doma and learn how their population struggles to live and why they live the way they do
the wild tribes of Azim and how their cultures and traditions bring forth their leaders and lifestyles

What do you think the purpose of Lyse coming along on this journey was? Even before the story said it explicitly, I could tell that the story was about
Lyse experiencing, learning, and growing into the role of a leader so she could eventually go back and spearhead the Ala Mhigan Resistance.
In the past she walked forward with the guidance and shielding of Papalymo and the
guise of her dead sister
, but when she has neither of those to fall back on Lyse is positioned shape herself.

Hey waaiiit a minute... is Lyse the one who is doing the narration? 'Cause I've been wondering about that. But you're right: I was looking at it from a superficial level of 'party members I think are badass'. I guess I'll see where things are headed for her.

This is probably a stupid question but I hit Level 10 and something popped up onthe screen but I didn't get a chance to read it. Something about a second class? I'm a Thaumaturge.

In ffxiv, you can level all classes on one character. Level 10 is where you can begin the class quests, i believe. Thaumaturge starts in ul'dah, and you can start unlocking others now.

So how do I go about doing that?

Is there a newbie guide somewhere? I feel so overwhelmed and want to stop asking stupid questions here :p

Once you hit level 10 if you go to the guilds for other classes you can take their quest to unlock that class. The way you switch between classes is by switching which weapon you have equipped. This also includes crafting/gathering classes. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but classes/city break down like this

Ul'dah
  • Gladiator (Becomes Paladin)
  • Thaumaturge (Becomes Blackmage)
  • Pugilist (becomes Monk)
  • Weaver
  • Goldsmith
  • Alchemist
  • Mining

Gridania
  • Archer (Becomes Bard)
  • Lancer (Becomes Dragoon)
  • Conjurer (Becomes White Mage)
  • Carpenter
  • Leatherworking
  • Botany (used to get ingredients for mainly Carpenters and Culinarians)

Limsa Lominsa
  • Arcanist (Becomes Summoner & Scholar)
  • Rogue (Becomes Ninja)
  • Marauder (Becomes Warrior)
  • Armorer
  • Blacksmith
  • Culinarian
  • Fisher

In addition, once you get to level 50 and I think through the main base quest, if you have the newest expansion (Stormblood) you can unlock Red Mage and Samurai in Uldah.

Finally, once you get through the base game and start Heavensward (around level 50~51) you'll be able to unlock Dark Knight, Astrologian, and Machinist.

To unlock just need to visit the class trainers in the city, then equip the weapon they give you will switch automatically

You know its funny all these years later and Steps of Fate still gives people nightmares and everyone who has played it immediately regrets choosing Trial Roulette and the newbie is confused why everyone else suddenly started going /despair.

I hate Steps of Fate, tried to get some quick Trial exp in today and wasted 40 minutes of my life this morning with that.

I wanted to take SAM to 60 before hitting the new MSQ, since the instances were borked. I've been doing weekly challenges plus POTD, and I've gotten up to 59 fairly quickly.

But I've hit a brick wall, and have repeatedly wiped to POTD 41-50. I think too many newbies are running it these days, plus hard disconnects and bad luck.

People suggest to run Frontline, but have also stated that you for start seeing big exp rewards until 61. Plus FL matches are way longer than a POTD attempt, right?

Still, that might be my only option at this point, especially with dungeon queues still being fucked for DPS.

It's worth noting for returning players that lock-on is less important than it used to be; as part of the attempt to make combat more user-friendly you no longer need to be facing the boss to get auto attacks. So if you want to run around in melee range not locked on, it won't cost you anything.

Still can be a nice feature to have, but it's no longer vital for keeping up autos.

I don't understand, also, why I, as RDM, am not priority rez all the time. Seeing as how I can instant rez infinitely, surely you'd resurrect me first? No. People resurrect the SAM, or the MNK, while I lie there watching them fail at mechanics.

Because there are a lot of RDMs that just don't raise people. RDM suffers from the shiny new job problem of a ton of people playing it and most of them not wanting to be expected to do anything but DPS; having to hardcast a tank or healer rez because the RDM doesn't want to have to waste a GCD happens. RDM should be the default first rez long term, but launch hype needs to die down and hopefully help filter the group down to people who will voluntarily use all their buttons instead of just the DPS ones.

Sounds reasonable, I was afraid of putting too much pie and then getting used to the mana regen, making it hard to come back off it.

I can see the danger there, but for the moment I'm just running 8-man stuff with unreliable PUG healers which leads to a lot of venting MP because it does not matter who I'm paired with or which sect I'm in, I'm gonna end up doing the bulk of the AOE healing. Ideally in situations Where It Matters there will be more coordination in who is doing what and less light speed Helios spam because they asked me to switch to Diurnal so they could noct and then proceed to never ever actually shield anything.

Ultimately both are stupid easy, but Susano has the potential to be much harder to clear in PUGs. Lakshmi is a big long game of Simon Says, and for the most part people screwing up will only kill themselves (if that--most mistakes can just be healed through) which means you can usually get through the fight without issue with a couple of players incapable of doing mechanics. You can screw up the adds phase and not finish in time, and still only have like 2 people die from it. Lakshmi is just weird.

Susano amounts to a simple game of team jump rope, only most personal failures there will end up causing problems for the entire group. So the guy who couldn't pop viril probably also can't be trusted to jump his marker across, which means everyone else is going to pay for it. It's still not a hard fight and you can survive a lot of failure, but it's a lot easier for a couple of people to sabotage a run. I'd still peg him as easier at iLevel than expected, and as joke status with a full group with raid awareness, but I wouldn't be surprised to see sales for Susano still be a thing.

Wut. It's 60 seconds, heals, damages and defense mp. It's fucking amazing.

Another buff would be insane.
90% sure it was a pun.

They've really nerfed it to the point where you don't need dragon killers anymore. I just very briefly notify my group of a few mechanics if it ever shows up to avoid headaches, but usually I'm fretting for no reason as the thing dies halfway through even as multiple people screw up.

If you fail a PotD run, you usually lose like 10mins and get nothing. If you do Frontlines, you cannot fail and get a bunch of exp every 15mins or so.

Just 15 minutes? I could have sworn Frontline matches would go on for 30 minutes or so at a time, unless they streamlined it since its launch.

I never found FL fun that much fun, just a lot of MOBA-style "hit them then run away and try taking out the mages". But people seem to really dig it these days, so I guess I'll check it out.

It's a 20 minute timer, I think.

Ah so it's a Destined For Greatness type deal. Okay then.

Made a vid of the Azim Steppes Super FATE in case anyone hasn't seen it. Also, I've gone full JRPG with my glamour:

Someone just got their Carbuncle :D

Most FL Shatter matches last around 10 minutes. Speaking of MOBA, I think the next PVP mode should just be a moba. Lanes and creeps and exp. They've already simplified the PVP skills so just have it that you pick which one to level up or talents or something. Could be fun!

It's 20 minutes if I am not mistaken, but Shatter goes the fastest by far. Shatter may take 10 minutes usually even assuming all alliances just get into a dogpile in the middle of the map.

It goes by even faster if you have a competent team or someone who can give good directions mid match.

Will autos still hit if you're technically not facing the boss? I've never used lock on and missing some autos definitely impacted my DPS when I used to raid.

Frontline it is, then.

For the PS4 version, is there a way to adjust the size of icons that pop up on the screen during battle? Specifically whenever an ability is used.

So many of the UI elements are stupid huge on console. Even on the smallest setting the Samurai's gauges are too large for my liking.
