What Will Be The Rare, Hard-to-find Wii U Games?

Paper Mario. Most interesting games released late on a system's life and with a small print run will eventually be very expensive.

People shit on PM Color Splash because it's not another Thousand Year Door, but it is still a good game and it was ignored. Get it while you still can, even if it still costs 60 bucks.

first run of this that has the wii disc was tiny, but the game sucked

The thing is Nintendo games in general hold their value like crazy. Look at the prices of several GameCube and Wii titles right now.

So a games being close to origin price years after release isn't unusual.

Wonderful 101 definitely won't be rare since copies are still available for $15 at Walmart close to 4 years after release.

I feel like it's almost easier to ask which Nintendo published ones won't be. Pretty much everything had a low print run, comparatively.

In particular, I'd say Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101, based on quality, (un)portability, and precedence based on prices of prior games in the series, or by the same developer.

I'm only missing Rio Olympics, Color Splash and Pokken Tournament for a complete collection of NA first-party Wii U retail games. Funnily enough I don't own any Nintendo Selects verisons.

Don't think Breath of the Wild Wii U will become rare. It already sold 1.5 million copies and there are still plenty of copies in stores 3 months out.

I don't think they ever did a second print-run without the Wii game. I saw it yesterday at Walmart for $15.

Does anybody like this game? Is there even a small enthusiast base for it? Serious question but it seemed like it was widely panned. For a game to be valuable it needs to not only be rare but also be desired.

Most people who played it like myself enjoyed it.

The single-player campaign is pure B-Movie cheese.

I regret many of my digital purchases...that 10% back and the 20% off eShop card sales were too good though!

I see TMS and Zelda everywhere. Doesn't mean they won't be rare later, but probably not for quite a while.

This thread lead to me finding out that I could get a good £80-£100 for my Bayo2 First Print Edition...

...if I hadn't thrown away the plastic sleeve like an utter idiot.

I forget the name, but that one that launched with the Wii version included and the developer straight up recommended people play that one instead? I thought someone mentioned that being rare.

Rodea is probably what you're thinking of. That game seems like it didn't do so hot since I still see copies of it pretty often and it goes around ~20. I'm kind of surprised since I thought being one of the last Wii releases might give it an edge, but it didn't seem to make a huge splash. I think they talked about the Wii disc being a first-run only thing, but it doesn't seem to have sold well enough for them to bother with a second print. It might have some novelty/cult value way down the line though.

I rounded out my Wii / Wii U collection a month or two ago and Game & Wario was one of the more expensive games used. Was hard to find for less than $30.

It's actually got some neat uses of the GamePad too.

Devils third, the wii u version of breath of the wild, tokyo mirage sessions, bayonetta 2 ( the version that includes the first game), amd maybe xenoblade x

Rare or collectible? There's a big difference and it some may not care about some of the rare titles as they are mostly licensed games for Wii U.

I'm only a few games short of a full set and the hardest ones to track down are Hello Kitty, Turbo Stunt Squad, Croods, etc...

Some of the games that may become collectible and worth owning for most gamers would be Wario, Wii Sports, Bayo 2 w Bayo 1, Tokyo Mirage Sessions, etc...

There are also some rare variants that may be worth mentioning.

Edit: Also want to add that the Wii U is different than any past systems in that the best time to collect for it has really already passed. When stores were clearing out new games for under $10 was the best time.

With the system doing so poorly most titles were produced in relatively small numbers compared to other modern systems. On top of that with a full set being relatively small I expect there will be more collectors trying to go for a full set of Wii U titles driving up the prices of the lesser titles in comparison to other systems at this point in their life span.

I thought it was really fun, and the multiplayer was awesome if you could find a match. I think for the people that picked it up, unless you had a stream and got a kick out of shitting on it, it had a tiny cult following. Honestly, reviewers being so ridiculously harsh on it made it a very easy game to like.

It's a shame development hell it went through - you could see this really good game if you squinted through the jank and technical issues.

On topic:

Has anyone said Rodea: Sky Soldier yet?

I swear that Hello Kitty game hung out at my store for years without anyone buying it. There was also a Croods game that fell behind a display case...

I got screamed at by a customer for telling them Rio Olympics wasn't out on Wii U the day the 3DS version launched. The 3DS launched first, with the Wii U one a few months later. They badmouthed me to another customer saying I was a liar and they were going to go to another store and get it. I hope they've never stopped seaching and even now their screams of 'liar' are heard through the winds. They don't eat. They don't sleep. They just refuse to look up the game on Google, but now it's far too late and it's far too expensive. Their time has passed. They curl up into a ball and sleep a sleep they may never wake up from.

Is Tokyo Mirage Sessions any good? I also see it often in stock at Target.
It is a great game. But don't expect anything like a Fire Emblem. It is a SMT or Persona game with references to Fire Emblem universe.
I spent 100 of hours on it and I wish they will do a TMS 2 on Switch.

Probably healthy you got this vent out of your system, lol.

Is there a huge difference in potential rarity between EU & US versions? I imagine most US completionist just go for US versions right?

Axiom Verge, Wii Sports Club, Rio 2016, BotW.

I could see Game & Wario and Color Splash getting up there too, maybe some of the lateish third party stuff like Runbow and Shantae.

Anyone who pays current prices for that Croods game or Kruisers is a dumb motherfucker.

It was stated elsewhere that different versions have different print runs and price points, but I assume who wants what is going to depend on the individual. A US collector may want a full US run, or a full run of every game released, or simply every version of their favorite games.

EDIT: I wonder if Hello Kitty and Croods is going to go down in price for used copies in a few years. When parents upgrade to a Switch and trade in or yard sale the older games I can't imagine those two wouldn't wind up back in the wild, as opposed to Bayonetta or Pikmin which are more likely to be owned by people who would keep a hold of them.

Games worth buying the system for were hard to find already, imagine the situation years from now!
:^)

But yeah, I imagine Pokken is gonna be rare.

Funny.. I just went into GameStop and bought a new copy of Tokyo mirage sessions. Don't have a WiiU tho.. should I keep it? Cause they are on clearance for $36

I'm not sure about 'rare', as the wii u had many limed print runs, and much of this library will be difficult to find in the future, but games that will become extra valuable; my estimates are:

-Tokyo Mirage Sessions: will def be worth a lot in the future. All atlus games increase in value on nintendo systems.
-Wii Sports Club
-Paper Mario Color Splash (fantastic game, btw. overlooked because of sticker star on 3ds)
-Hello Kitty Kruisers
-Starfox Zero double pack (with a disc version of SFGuard)
-Deus Ex Human Revolution: Directors Cut
-Darksiders: Warmastered edition

Darksiders Warmstered has to be the most limited print run of any wii u game release, i'd image. that just came out within the last month, too. so grab a sealed copy and wait for its value to increase on ebay.

I've been looking for that Game and Wario game that came out near launch forever. Seems pretty rare..

I rounded out my Wii / Wii U collection a month or two ago and Game & Wario was one of the more expensive games used. Was hard to find for less than $30.

It's actually got some neat uses of the GamePad too.

Indeed I have posted a bit about how underated Game & Wario is. There are a lot of different great parts about it.

It was re-released as a Select last spring with Tropical Freeze, Wind Waker, and NES Remix Pack. It actually was pretty pricey and uncommon before that happened.

So I remembered I bought Game & Wario for like $28 a few months after release. I couldn't remember exactly where I got it. I searched my email and Amazon records and didn't find anything.

Then I remembered I joined GAF around that time and searched my posts.

So after picking up Lego City and Monster Hunter for $20 in the Gamefly sale he's what I have for Wii U:

NSMBU, Sonic Racing Transformed, Zombi U, Tekken Tag 2, AC III, Warriors Orochi 3, Black Ops II, Arkham City, Darksiders II, Injustice (the first game I have ever sold, will get GOTY edition because way too much DLC), Need for Speed Most Wanted U, Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate, Lego City Undercover and NSLU.

I have Wonderful 101 on preorder for $53.99 from Newegg but they take a little while to ship so I have some a little time.

The Target deal would cost me $127.20 with tax. What other games would I get with this deal? Sure Pikmin 3 is great but I still have the first two in my backlog, by the time I got to it it world've probably dropped in price. Game and Wario is only $40 so the discount would be smaller. Rabbids is only $30 online. I'll like to support Ubisoft and pick up one of their 2013 games at full price and the rest later at discount but Rayman and Splinter Cell don't interest me as much as Watch Dogs (which isn't that highly interesting to me) and I feel buying WD would have the best impact. Rayman is selling well on Wii U compared to other platforms while SC sold horrible on Wii U already. Should I just wait and skip the sale?

Does that returning one game and keeping the $20 discount for the rest really work? I know two have said it does.

So that whole returning a two of the games and getting a 33% discount works and I got Game & Wario for $27.66. I've done it several times since then most recently getting Breath of the Wild Wii U for $40 a few days after release.

I wonder why I mention Watch Dogs since that game wasn't supposed to come out till November that year but then was delayed close to release till May 2014 with the Wii U version launching in November 2014.

Injustice GOTY was leaked through a retailer listing at the time for Wii U as well. When it did come I just bought a new copy for $10 cheaper than what I sold it for and bought some DLC.

The Pikmin thing is funny in hindsight with that game being $100 for years until the Nintendo Select version. Surprisingly soon after Pikmin was rereleased I found a sealed copy of the original release in a Target clearance section. It rang up as $50 because the Nintendo Selects releases are different from the originals. I was able to convince the associate to price match the Nintendo Select version online for $20.

A lot of my Wii U first-party games were discounted. For example through a Target offer combined with price matching I was able to Buy Mario Kart 8 for $35 and use the Club Nintendo code to get a free game launch month and trade it in to Gamestop for $37. That year's Black Friday I got both MK8 and the recently released Hyrule Warriors for $30 off of Sears.com.

I got Devil's Third for $30 at launch from a preorder offer from Dell.Com. Last holiday I got a new copy of Wooly's World for $15, Mario Tennis Ultra Smash for $25 and Star Fox Zero for $30 but SF0 had fallen to $25 on Amazon earlier.

Here's my current retail collection:
Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival

Might be missing some. It's at 74 right now but it there's over a dozen more I still need to get and at that point I might as well go for a 100. Also own a lot of Eshop stuff.

I think this game was released physically only in Japan while it was digital only in Europe and the US. Or was it digital only everywhere?
So few people bought this game that I feel like even my digital copy is rare :3

Loved it!! I was very active in the OT for this game. I played it through twice!! Itagaki the man!!

Only played single player, never tried multiplayer and now multiplayer is turned off now. I should do another single player play through again soon.

The next Just Dance game. Because it will be the last physically published game until the next Just Dance game after that.

Once BotW is more stable and running well on that emulator, the Wii U version will skyrocket in price on the secondary market and never come down.

The Wii U itself will be hard to find at some point, simply because of the need for the gamepad and complete lack of any extras ever being sold.

Dang this thread is making me want to get Tokyo Mirage Sessions, I saw a couple of copies while browsing some Gamestops earlier today. I may pick it up tomorrow sometime...
