War for the Planet of the Apes - Review thread. (RT= 96%)

Was getting caught part of your plan?
I'm the guy making the OT. I already have a title in mind, but people can feel free to suggest something that can convince me otherwise.

wow, another hit. what a surprising trilogy!

hopefully this doesn't affect Homecoming box office too much, though

Fuck yeah rewatched the first two just merely a few weeks ago and it still holds up can't wait to see this one. An unexpected reboot of a old movie becoming one of the best movies in recent years, the mo-cap is insane. Andy Serkis as Caesar made it so good.

I still remember watching those awful and obnoxious trailers for Rise of the Planet of the Apes. So many people were making fun of the movie, but then the movie came out and took people by surprise.

I'm shocked that I love these movies so much. They ended making one of the most compelling film trilogies in a long time.

These movies have no right being as good as they are. If the third movie lives up to the first two, this will honestly be my 2nd favorite trilogy behind LotR.

I think Spider Man and War for the Planet of the Apes are going to have more of a negative effect box office wise towards Valerian and Dunkirk than against each other.

For the longest time, I thought Rise and Dawn were sequels to the 2001 remake, so I figured sequels to a mediocre remake weren't worth my time.
I only watched them a few weeks back and was surprised I enjoyed them so much. That Burton movie was a real disservice to the franchise.

Supersonic, idiotic, disconnecting, not respecting, who would really ever wanna go and top that

If Caesar's "NOOOOOO!" didn't have you shook, then you have no soul. I got chills from that scene. You could hear a pin drop when that happened. That movie really caught me off guard by how good it was.

That moment when i was watching in the theater everyone was looking at the screen and went WTF for that moment...so fucking good.

Great news! Rises was solid and Dawn was fairly good, so this looks to be in the same ballpark as those two. A very solid recent trilogy that I'm sure Fox will make a fourth film to.

Not going to happen if they movie is as bleak and depressing as it appears to be

Hope it's still successful though

It'll probably gross around 700m. The Apes films have a ceiling, and most of their audience is apparently a bit older, so I doubt it grosses a billion. Should do well enough anyway.

I keep telling people Dunkirk is going to have a difficult time in July domestically due to strong releases like War for the Planet of the Apes, and Spider Man.

Dunkirk hasn't even been released, so you're still making predictions. We have no idea how well-received it'll be anyway.

Great to hear they didn't botch the last one. The trailers made it look a little dull, but good to see it's reviewing well.

Could be the 21st century's first true best sci-fi trilogy. How unexpected. Pretty sweet, though. Loved the first two.

So good. He totally lit up the screen.
Lmao.

YEah if this causes spidey to make $850m instead of $900m I'd probably kill myself

thats... dramatic

oof yeah valerian looks like a box office flop

Why do you care

i want Sony to give Marvel the keys to the Spidey kingdom

the better it does, the more Sony is going to let Marvel do their own thing

Best sci fi trilogy ever?

Christ, that might not even be hyperbole.

At work, but I got it lined up in Plex ^_^. Will try to get to it this week, hehe.

Good man!

I can't wait. July is going to be awesome for movies.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes was good. Dawn was great. I'll probably do a marathon soon of them all with the exception of the Tim Burton one.

Baby Driver, The Beguiled, Spider-Man, Apes, Dunkirk. And Valerian, hopefully.

Best stretch of movies in a long ass while.

Really good to see this one was worth the wait. I really liked Rise, and loved and adored Dawn, that one was one of my absolute favorites of 2014. I'll be there at the first Thursday showing!

It's going to be amazing. I rewatched Rise of the Planet of the Apes last night and it was incredible. Can't remember if I've seen the sequel but I'm gonna watch Dawn before War comes out for sure.

I mean these movies are great, but last I checked the SW OT is still sci-fi.

As a lifelong fan, I have never considered SW to be sci-fi. It's a fantasy in a sci-fi setting.

Science.

Pick one.

The apes stuff is pretty ridiculous, even if you grant the caveat of the virus.

On a sci fi scale from Blade Runner to Resident Evil, the Apes films are closer to Resident Evil (in terms of plausibility. Not quality).

Apes is the best sci-fi trilogy by virtue of the fact that it has zero competition. Like, what are we talking about? The Matrix? Raimi's Spider-Man? The only decent 'trilogy' I can think of is the JJ-verse Star Trek series, but Apes is better and there will probably be a fourth Trek movie in the near future.

I still haven't seen the first two films. Burton's film so thoroughly destroyed my interest in the Planet of the Apes franchise that even now I'm kind of indifferent and not super hyped about jumping into this new trilogy. :S But given the critical praise, maybe I should.

Fantasy in space, really, not sci-fi setting.

A+.

Where can I watch the first 2? Streaming anywhere?

according to google Netflix Canada is the only place to legally stream them

These movies are NOTHING like the Burton one if you hated the Burton one, then watch these ones, and the one from the 60's if you haven't already.

Yea I'm really excited for this having just recently watched both Rise and Dawn (yea I know). Sucks that this is releasing comparatively late here.
