What's your favorite intro?

Cool jazzy music, and the narration sounds great.

Super Metroid
This one might be cheating because this is my personal favorite game ever. Again great music and it sounds like some bad shit is going to happen.

Ys Book 1
Nostalgia is a hell of a drug. The animation isn't really that good, but the music is fantastic.

Panic!
This is more of a guilty pleasure because of how silly it is. It does set up the game quite well, because all you do is press buttons, and dumb shit happens.

Hmm, all of these are like 20 years old. Oh well.

Pokémon Gold
Nostalgia, they don't really make similar intros that tell little stories in the recent Pokémon games anymore, and surprising based on the GBC's limitations.
The simple animation inspired me to make gif animations using similar techniques when I was younger.

I love worldly music like that, and the vocals are mesmerizing. Visually, it really shows off how the game revolves around massive conflict. I love the way it syncs up in spots too.

I really like this intro because it does exactly what it needs to do. It establishes the story, sets the tone, and makes the villain look menacing.

Definitely the Smash Bros games. Especially Melee:

Total Annihilation
All the back story that the game required.
The Tekken 2 intro still gets me hype. Ready to fuck shit up

These all came to my mind.
Rarely skipped them, watched them over and over. Music still awesome

Another would be the DOS version of the first Civilization. Watching that planet change and grow in that intro was just so fun to look at.

'You've heard of it havent you? The Legend of Sparda?'

The first part of the introduction leads you on and makes you wonder whilst the introductory cutscene that follows then sets the tone for the game.

This is fucking crazy. Especially for a ps2 game. Too bad it's another game I missed out on when it was new. I was very poor back then.

Final Fantasy 8 with that Liberi Fatali.

That or Melee.

Final Fantasy VIII. So fucking good.

Love Super Metroid as well.

Final Fantasy VIII - possibly the greatest opening of all time.

Hell yeah. That shit is pretty hype.

Blackhawk/Blackthorn for the SNES. Cool and stylish, it looks like a stylised animated film... In fact I would kill for a film to be made in this style.

The Last Ninja III on the Commodore 64. Masterfully done with limited resources, it's effective in what it aims to do, and the music! The SID chip really shines here.

And Final Fantasy VIII, of course. Who doesn't love that awesome intro?

A ton of RPGs top my list, but especially Wild ARMs and Final Fantasy VIII.

But the one intro that I watched countless times and still got fired up with every viewing was for the original Killzone. Perfectly voiced and a great summary of the world you're heading into.
