Not comparing it to the originals at all and looking at it as it's own thing, is it still not good? Even a little?
Nintendo made up for the federation force debacle at E3 this year...so maybe Sega wil get their heads out of their asses.
Doubt it though. This shit just shouldn't exist. Whoring a dead IP is never a good idea, doing so to make a shit game doesnt help.
Didnt work for xcom
Xcom The Bureau Declassified. I'm not surprised you don't remember it. It was a garbage shooter that was announced well before Xcom enemy unknown was met with animosity due to reviving the IP to make a shooter instead of a strategy game. After multiple delays it came out a year after Enemy unknown released., was panned and forgotten. What? Both new XCOM games besides being pretty good were well received. Are you sure you typed the right thing here?

They could've just done an HD Collection of 2 & 3 instead, no one would've batted an eye.

I'm not referring to Japanese users. I'm saying, japan developers, and japanese games and xbox don't go together at all. western Xbox gamers don't care about Japanese games period. And most times have to defend their existence on the platform. I don't even know why they bothered with this game honestly, as i can tell you it will bomb on every platform, but especially Xbox One.
Japan != entire addressable console market.
The fact that Valkyria Revolution exists on Xbox One at all is evidence of this. Hence, why start with this flawed game and not Valkyria Chronicles Remastered.
Because the latter would probably stand more of a chance of recouping any costs involved in porting the game.
While we are talking venerable, acclaimed strategy games reimagined as unremarkable action games, can we add Front Mission Evolved to the list. One of the weird side effects of Valkyria Revolution being awful is that everyone's now also shitting on The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, which seems a little unfair to me. There's no way The Bureau is as bad as this. It definitely had its issues, but I thought it was enjoyable. This just seems like a zombie game: everyone's got dead expressions and the combat looks mindless and dull.
I'm not actually sure if the bureau declassified is bad, just like I don't know if federation force is actually bad. My comment was more about how they were terrible ideas due to the state their franchises were in when announced and/or launched. Valkyria Revolution just so happened to be both a terrible idea and game. One of the weird side effects of Valkyria Revolution being awful is that everyone's now also shitting on The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, which seems a little unfair to me. I had no idea that a new Valkyria game was coming out.
So let me get this straight:
SEGA had a fantastic game in Valkyria Chronicles 1, and decided to shit on everything it got right, transformed into an action game and Otaku fanwank and decided to release it?
How thick are they for not recognizing the appeal of the grounded "anime" style that the first had, allied to the fantastic strategy gameplay?

Despite it's cult status, the original bombed pretty hard at release.
Sega has tried various things with the franchise, but it looks like focusing on the japanese market didn't help the series much. With the sequels or with this action spin off.
tbf. I'm not sure there's a place for high budget tactics games on consoles. Seems pretty much all of them bomb or are low budget enough that they don't need to sell much.
Sigh...I feel like there's so many missteps with this game in Sega's effort to revive Valkyria. The Steam version of Valkyria Chronicles (and the remaster on consoles to a degree) did a good job in reviving interest in the series, so they go and make...this? It's a really bizarre decision to the point where making a mobile game would have even been more logical.
Eh, it didn't really bomb. It cleared over a million copies on PS3 alone.
Whoever told you that is wrong, because that game started development just before VC came to Steam iirc.I've not kept up with this game and the only one time I asked on GAF, I was told this is a quick cash-grab to capitalize on Valkyrie Chronicle's good will from the Steam port.
Does this have anything to do with the OG Valkyrie series ? or did they just slap the name on a mediocre game ?

Didnt work for xcom, metroid, and wasnt going to work here.
