Diablo 3 - Necromancer Pack - June 27th - $14.99

Why would you justify the $15 price with areas that are free and not included with the Necromancer pack?

I wouldn't be so willing to pay for the Necromancer pack if all the patch/pack included was the Necromancer class. I see Blizzard has actually worked on more content for the game to be included and thus I think it is worthy of paying them for their work.

Claim: DLC pays for free content

Reality: They added free content without DLC paying for it before this

And let me remind you that:
A) People are buying D3 every month, it isn't like sales of the base game have stopped (and free content is a big reason why it continues to sell)
B) Blizzard has soft gambling mechanics aimed at children in its other games that gives them an insane stream of revenue

The Cesspools zone was created in development of the base game, the Eternal Woods/Sescheron were created during the development of RoS. They were incomplete on launch and added later, so dev cost was already accounted for. Seasons, items, etc... were a draw to keep users engaged with the game over time. Their cost of development is justified as keeping players engaged will encourage their friends and others to play as there's always something new, but are not comparable to new zones and certainly not a new class with unique armor for two genders, spells, balancing, etc...

Diablo 3 is one of the highest selling PC games in history. It doesn't need a cash flow from other games to keep running and have classic continued free support on PC. Which thankfully extends to console. However, as seen from how much it costs to create a character with Skullgirls, one could assume the creation of an action RPG class involving many similar aspects would be a similar cost. Something Blizzard probably wouldn't want to just eat the cost on considering the effort involved.

Companies don't just eat the cost of free content patches. Significant free patches in popular games always coincide with a sales spike. It's how the model worked for ages.

As somebody who put in over 2k hours into D3.. I really wish they would have included this in a new expansion that changes the endgame.

For me, it doesn't really matter if there's a new class when everyone's endgame is the same: fishing for GRIFTS and seeing how high you can get the number to go.

For D4, I really hope there is an emphasis on exploration. GRIFTS are boring as hell.

Though I won't complain too much because I obviously got my money's worth.

I just look at something like POE and can't help but feel like D3 could have been so much more.

D3 is there for convenient fun, Poe is there for depth. That's pretty much how it is now based off how blizzard has chosen to tailor D3.

So after reading a bit more, I am thinking of getting back to D3 with the Necromancer pack after all. But would need some advice, since the game has expanded so much.

For context, I am planning to play coop with my wife, both on the new class. We have finished the story mode on Hard or Expert before, I have my L67 barbarian left, but my wife might have lost her character.

We never played anything else than the Story mode, and I don't think we have played the post-PS4 day one areas.

So my questions are

- in the lead up to Necromancer, what would be a good mode for us to play? Redo the Story harder, do the quests on Adventure, or ry some Rifts? Does it matter if I am L67 and she might have to start anew?

- once Necromancer arrives, same question - which mode should we play?

- once the new Season begins, should we restart with that? I have never done Seasons before.

So, the idea with RoS is that Story mode is basically the thing you do *once*. Once you've finished story mode you transition to adventure mode and get into the gameplay loop of doing bounties and rifts to get exp and gear up, respectively. From there you transition to greater rifts when you want to push the envelope on what your character can do (and also to get legendary gems and level them up).

You may want to restart with the season, you might not, that's up to you. Seasons add what are essentially season specific achievements that grant you things like new portrait frames and armor cosmetics, and hitting the achievements in chapter 4 of your season journey get you what's called "Haedrig's Gift", which is essentially blizz giving you a full 6 pc. set to kickstart your loot game and let you jump right into the torment difficulties for the better gear and bigger challenges.

There's a competitive community within D3. Look at the site Diablo progress.. There are players do hit GR 100+ solo sitting at 3000+ paragon.

But I agree that it wasn't designed with a great endgame in mind like POE.

I just hope that changes in D4

Thanks, that is very helpful! So Adventure first, and season when the next one kicks off!

So 1½ hours until maintenance (I think?), and the DLC is still not up on PSN? Or am I missing something? Also, we still haven't heard anything if there are any more trophies with this pack?

Yep, that's the plan for me and the wife. I would just wait until the new season kicks off but that won't be for another 3+ weeks and fuuuuck thaaaaat.

Adventure mode is really a ton of fun and the meat of the game in RoS, if you still haven't touched it yet you're in for a treat.

If I had this game on PC, I'd probably buy the Necromancer pack. But on consoles everything is so damn hacked and messy, having a new class really doesn't entice me to want to go back at this point.

Sad too because Diablo 3 is an excellent game and I'd probably still be playing if everything wasn't to utterly fucked.

Unfortunately I have to wait until the first to get the Necro because I won't have money until then, but cannot wait to boot it up anyways and check out the new areas.

I just got the patch installed on PS4 (EU), but it says there's no content in the store when you click the button to go there. Any ideas on how long it might be?

So is multiplayer still full of hacked gear on Xbox and PS4 or is it safer these days?

Fixed in seasons on current consoles now at least. The gear editing relied on importing your save from the previous gen console and you can't do that for seasonal characters.

I think they needed the max xp from gems too so you can't 'accidentally' get boosted. I had a hacked account and hated it. Reset the lot as soon as Necromancer was announced, in preparation for today.

Now, do I Gem of Ease or take it slow?

I think I'll take it slow.

Isn't there a widespread issue with consoles having a method of re-rolling until you get the best gear? Just wish they would server side everything
