Order 7 (Camelot) is the one where it starts to get tough cos the game shakes things up there. You can pretty much relax until then.

just use waver as friend support

It's what I'll end up doing. Ruler Jeanne + Emiya + Marie + Cu Lancer + the free Heracles I'll get later really wasn't something that I topped after a ton more rerolling, so I am just sticking with that acc. Jeanne resists basically everything and with her + Marie + Cu (and Mash of course) I will probably be rocking a Team Cockroach before long.

Random question about attacks. If I am doing 3 attacks on an enemy, and the enemy dies after the first attack, why do I sometimes keep attacking the same (now dead) enemy for an overkill while other times I will switch to the next enemy? I'd rather always switch to the next enemy.

If it's the same character doing the next attack, you'll continue the attack on the now-dead enemy. If it's a different character, it'll switch to the next target.

If you attack with the same servant it stays the same. But if you kill someone with a servant and your next attack was with another servant, it'll go to the next target.

Just finished up France, pretty straight forward so far. Not done any daily quests really, so I've been getting by on exp from the starting rolls/friend point summons. Not sure how much of the story the game launched with, so I think I'll focus on grinding some exp for my team now.

I'm consistently surprised by the production values of this game.

The animations are solid, the NPs I've seen so far have been impressive, the menus are snappy and responsive.

I like the combat a lot too so far, too.

Wish I had a stronger attachment to the IP though hahaha.

Kinda feeling the same so far. This is my first gacha game that I've been able to progress beyond that initial roll hurdle too. Getting a couple great rolls and learning the ins and outs of its mechanics has me hooked at the moment, but I wish I felt more strongly about its story/characters outside of the designs.

If you guys think the animations are impressive you haven't seen anything yet. The animations were dogshit when the game was first launched.

Yeah I was looking at Seiba's updated sprites and was wondering why they didn't match what i had currently.

Basically every servant had two different sprite animation types. Either the melee or ranged caster. The animations were the same across the board.

Game changer. Thanks gents!

So the reroll hell ended thanks to a extremly charitable individual and I realized I have no idea how to actually play the game so I have a few questions I' be thankful if someone awnsered:

1. When should I level up characters? Should I use all the launch items on 5* or spread them out?

2. How fast will I earn Quartz?

3. How do Units' abilities unlock?

There is only one hard story content in the game and no amount of 5* will save you from the hell that is Camelot. You need an all-rounded Servant pool of varying types to beat that content. I really want to iterate that you do not need a 5*. The only reason I personally rolled for Waver isn't because he's a 5* but because I'm going for a specific Composition when we get Jeanne Alter and Merlin.

PSA

The current JP meta is geared towards Buster straight up. If you're not a good buster or if you're not a good buster supporter then you're going to lean on teh low end. Also, JP meta prefers single target NPs over AOE. So servants like Altria get shafted. There are only a few exceptions that crept their way on the higher tier but for the most part a tier list is garbage.

Responding to powercreep. Lmao, there is like NO powercreep. DW has consistently released garbage 5* the past year and people still whale like crazy. Why? Cuz waifu. Gameplay is literally not a factor for the most part.

I wish I had gotten a Waver simply because he's like one of my top 3 favorite Fate characters. Oh well.

For making a balanced team - what would you recommend for the guaranteed 4 Star pull that they're going to be giving out? I've got Altera and Carmilla atm and tons of Wavers/Jeannes on my friends list. Would Heracles or Emiya round that out better?

What do we do with all those 1-2* servants ? Are there any loyalty rewards if we use them long enough (like in Love Live ?)
Future events will have bonuses (to damage, drops, enemy spawn chances, etc.) depending on what servants are included in your team. Specific bonuses will be tied to specific servants, and yes 1* and 2* servants will be included in those as well, so it's worth hanging on to them.

Also, levelling up their bond levels will allow you to access their Interludes - side quests that usually grant a Saint Quartz and sometimes improve the servant's abilities. You should also do their Strengthening Quests for similar reasons.

Finally, a couple of them have their niche uses. Back in the bad old days of the JP launch, Orleans was a bloody tough chapter and the real Dragon Slayer of the day was actually Sasaki Kojiro (being one of the few usable Assassin servants at the time). I believe they did make the chapter slightly easier but so will he. Other examples are St. George, who is actually a half-decent tank, and, as others have mentioned before, Hans Christian Andersen is a really budget Waver-style support servant.

EDIT...

1. it's been mentioned a few times, but yeah level up when you can (someone gave the good advice of taking it as you go along the story so you don't get burned out and lack AP to continue). You can use the EXP cards you get to begin with but then you'll need to start grinding the Daily quests to get silver and gold EXP cards.

2. as fast as how much money you put into it :p on a serious note, this game is completely playable if you're planning a free-to-play run - I went through two years of JP FGO not spending a single penny and managed to snag some good pulls and complete the content. Quartz is distributed often enough that it shouldn't be a problem (story quests, emergency maintenance, special events, anniversaries, etc.) but not regularly enough so that they can still tempt the whales to pay. My advice is try to save whatever free Quartz you get and wait for the rate-ups.

3. Servants unlock new abilities as you ascend them (to raise their level cap, usually after the first and maybe the third ascensions), though some of the older and weaker servants get them from Strengthening Quests later on as well. Interludes may occasionally improve certain servants skills, and one particular story-related servant has their abilities tied to story progression (take a guess who :p).

What's the best order to watch from? I saw one of them a while back. Not sure which, I think it was Fate/Zero (just checked, it was)

Fate/Zero may chronologically take place before Fate/Stay Night, but it's a prequel and is written with reading F/SN first in mind.

Read the VN, then Fate/Zero, then read F/HA, then play Tsukihime, then you can get the jokes in Carnival Phantasm, then and only then can you make your first roll on the F/GO Gacha.

I think we already have the new animations. The tutorial Saber NP looks better than the one I just watched from a video from 2015.

Not to be a party pooper, but as someone who's spent thousands of hours between Brave Frontier, Terra Battle, Kingdom Hearts Union x, Brave Exvius, Memory Defrag, Dragon Blaze, and many others, this game seems a bit bland outside of the styling and visuals, with no social features to bolster its simplicity.

Granted, I've only yet cleared the first area, so maybe the gameplay opens up more later. I think with games like these, what ultimately ends up getting hooked are the social features, be them weekly ranked challenges or co-op elements like guilds, multiplayer, and/or collaboration of any sort.

Will this game expand to include anything like that, or is it really just a simple single-player affair with guest units? And, if so, does the gameplay get deeper or more exciting to make up for the complete lack of social features?

Thanks!

You should probably focus on 1 or 2 servants. Your 5* Servant will probably be stronger than the others at low levels, but throwing some experience at an Assassin class servant (such as Kojirou or Hassan) will be helpful in the Orleans.

2. How fast will I earn Quartz?

It varies. You get a lot from completing story quests, but the current standard rate besides that in JP is 6 per week, I believe.

3. How do Units' abilities unlock?

Ascension. To do that, you have to get the Servant to their current max level, then pay a bunch of materials and qp to raise that cap. Servants generally get new skills at 1st and 3rd Ascension.

I think we already have the new animations. The tutorial Saber NP looks better than the one I just watched from a video from 2015.

We have some of them, but we are still missing quite a few of the updated animations. In particular: Medea, Elizabeth, Cu Chulainn, Medusa, and Altria Alter all will be getting improved animations.

There are some events where damage done to bosses or points accumulated are totaled up and minor rewards granted for reaching certain thresholds, but otherwise no co-op or pvp.

Recently in the JP version they've started adding challenge quests to events, but the rewards are generally pretty minor and non-competitive. As far as the gameplay goes, fights will get significantly harder and will often require quite a bit of strategy to complete (without using your quartz for revives, anyway). I'm not really sure how to answer if it gets deeper or more exciting, because I don't know how much you've engaged with it.

FGO is one of those rare mobage that actually is a pure single player experience. As some have already mentioned, their are psuedo-raid and co-op mechanics but otherwise you will be solo throughout with just your friendlist as an extra support unit.

The main draw of this particular game is... I suppose Nasuverse story and lore, waifus, husbandos and the awesome NP animations. It's Type-Moon fanservice in a pure gacha mobage form.

If you are looking for a deeper gameplay element beyond what's being shown, methinks you might end up a bit disappointed. If you want to read a fantastical story of mythical and historical heroes and villains reborn and retold (and occasionally play to progress this vast story) then proceed and enjoy.

As as been said a few times, this game is more about the story than those kinds of things. If you want PvP or a more social oriented game, then you'd probably best look elsewhere.

Settled for an Altria last night as it was the only 5* I got. I've forgotten the slow servant grind at the beginning.

On mobile but people should look up low rarity clears of Nero Fes 2 for another reason of how important well rounded teams are. There should not be any spoilers if people avoid watching videos for that reason

Well I'd guess main attraction is story and waifus

I haven't thought much about the free pick since I wasn't expecting to also get Tamamo Cat when I got a 5*. I've got her/Vlad so I'm probably fine on berserkers. Redman is the next choice for me I suppose, just to have him.

Good fix.

Also if the Fuyuki area felt a bit lacking in the story department, watch the Fate/Grand Order: First Order OVA.

that was actually a lot better than I was expecting it to be. Granted I wasn't expecting much. Caster Cu stole the show.

I also had completely forgotten about the Apocrypha adaptation but I'm gonna assume the worst with that until proven otherwise.

Those games try to focus more on the gameplay than anything else. This game doesn't. People play for the story, characters, and nasuverse stuff. This is not your average popular gacha games. It's super narrative driven. And by that I mean immense waifubait.

How do I complete the Weekly mission "Acquire a gem, magic gem or secret gem from dailies"? Which daily should I farm?

I am wondering the same. It seems like some of the dailies rotate in and out, so maybe that daily hasn't actually been available yet.

Duel with the Three Knights AP 30/40 should drop a gem (iirc from the Japanese version). But it's RNG so you might have to do it a few times.

And UBW Cu Chulainn is the GARest man of all time. So good.
there is only one GAR my friend, and it isn't Cu (as much as I think he's great)

If you watched the 2006 one then yes, that's the first.

I'd personally go 2006 > Zero > Unlimited Blade Works (series, ignore the movie) > whatever side stuff you like.

Carnival Phantasm is worth watching, just for the sheer contrast of how the characters act in it compared to the serious stuff, lol.

Also, asked above, have any advice on the upcoming free 4* picks for rounding teams out?

This game is kinda really slow on my phone so i'm getting a bit demotivated to play it with that and the translation issues (and the download speed is not that great for rerolling either)

Could I get better results on an emulator?

I think yall are greatly exaggerating the translation issues. lmao. You want to see a legit bad localization? Have you played Tales of Hearts R? lmao.
