You can tell a lot about a person by how they refer to Nintendo's ~La Snesse~ (SNES)

I've only ever always called it the SNESS. It sounds less nasally when you're not American ;)

SNESS is easier to say, and I don't think the console needs to be addressed by its official title. When you're friends say hello, do they use your full name? I doubt it. NES, SNES, 64. At least from the Gamecube on the names don't need to be contracted.

In the same way, no one was calling the Playstation the PS1 when it was the ONLY Playstation but it's just easier these days to say PS1, PS2, PS3 etc.

SNEZ

And NEZ

UK here

SNEZ SNEZ SNEZ

You need two 's' to make a Sness sound, SNES has one 's', therefore SNEZ, like NEZ before it.

Super Nintendo? Ain't nobody got time for that.

Snez all one word.

SNEZ for life

It's a Snez. We all know it, don't fight it.

Snez in UK but we say Mario correctly so it evens out.

It's a Snez. Always has been, always will be.

Nez, Snez, Megadrive

I've always said snez.

Maybe you don't, but some of us do.

ps SNEZ or GTFO (pronounced gthfoh)

Comrades.

I used to call it just "Nintendo" when I was a little kid, i didn't know it had a predecessor before it.

Now I say just "Super Ness". I don't know why.

I always called it a snez. Early 90s after school I'd say to my mates "wanna come over and play on the snez?" or "wanna come over and play [game title]?"

It just rolled off the tongue better then, ahem, "wanna play some super nintendo?" I never said that shit. It was my SNEZ

I called it Super Nintendo at the time, because it was, in both name and stature. Afterwards, when the generation moved on I referred to it as SNES[Z] mostly, still do. It's my all time favourite console by far. Going to get snotty about referring to it as the SNES? I'm 47 and couldn't give a jezebel's breasticle what you think.

I think I know what the confusion is.

Here is the lowly Super Nintendo
rqR1itS

And here is the glorious Snezz.

Edit: I give up. Never done images before.

Like, Super Nintendo is such a long name to constantly use in conversation with your friends. In text form sure, but in conversation? Phew exhausting!

Here in Brazil we say "Super Nintendo" and, less frequently, Super NES (pronouncing as a word and not every letter individually).

You have to account for age variation. Those who grew up with the NES called it Nintendo and naturally called the SNES the Super Nintendo. These people are at the youngest, in their late 30s. At some point in the SNES generation, the "Super" was dropped as nobody really had an NES around.

I guess calling it Super Nintendo isn't stupid if you called the NES "Nintendo."

But it's S N E S. Just like N E S. I don't think I've ever heard anyone but non-gamers call them by anything besides their initials irl.

It was always "Super Nintendo" with me and my friends. NES was always Nintendo or, when the SNES came out, the "regular Nintendo". Legit never heard "SNES" as one word until I was an adult.

- "Super N.E.S."

Look, you're not wrong but this was really only said in TV commercials. I have to imagine that in addition to saying Super N.E.S., you probably also say "Game Paks" and take the requisite 15 minute break for every 1 hour of play as instructed in the manual. Also, I'm just gonna lump in "S.N.E.S." people here as well because I don't hear it very often and compared to the final group in this list, you sound like angels.

EGM was our bible then.

If you can shorten it to Super Nintendo from Super Nintendo Entertainment System, why can't the rest of us just shorten it to an acronym?
