Tekken 7: How the fuck do they all understand each other?

Am I supposed to believe that every character is able to understand all the different languages? This is my first Tekken since forever ago was it always like that? It kinda took me out of the game a bit, What do you guys think?

Dunno, don't care. Love that they do this.

It's been like that for years. Since Tekken 5 at least, can't remember before then.

You're talking about a game with fighting bears, possessed wooden men, and aliens, man lol.

Suspend your need for reality for a sec.

It started with Tekken 5.

I've always had this problem. It just didn't feel natural.

That is why Tekken 4 will always be my favourite. Characters spoke to others in different languages, for instance Jin spoke with Hwoarang in English but in Japanese with Kazuya and it all made sense.

You just gotta get used to it.

Yeah this was one of my biggest gripes with the story mode. Was a bit jarring whenever a cut scene came on. I know it's a game and all but definitely took me out of it a little bit.

I LOVE that it was the characters being able to speak all languages which "took the OP out of the game abit" and not the fact that there's a giant talking bear in it who beats the shit out of a magic ninja with a lightsaber.

way to overthink it.

does it even matter?

The same way world leaders do in their useless meetings
they don't? It's all acting for the cameras

They're all super heroes with advanced intelligence that allows them to understand all languages of the world. This also explains how they're able to hit people so hard they bounce off concrete and such.

There. Happy?

It is comical and that is good.

It is better to have the different characters speak their native tongues rather than having everyone speak Japanese or English.

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
I think it's cool that they do this. But no, it doesn't make any sense.

This is one of the coolest features of Tekken where so many cultures that don't get represented in mainstream media get some kind of spotlight in the AAA space.

Also why it's an injustice to Filipinos Josie doesn't speak Tagalog.

I think Virtua Fighter was doing this before Tekken picked it up. I thought it was a neat detail that each fighter from different parts of the world are speaking their language rather than have every person speaking Japanese.

Edit: I remembered wrong.

Haha that's fair! Believe me I wasn't saying that was the ONLY thing that took me out of it. I know that the whole thing is essentially a parody of itself at this point, considering how serious of a tone they try and take with the whole thing, meanwhile having all that other shit going on. And it's far from the only game I can say that about, and not necessarily a bit thing (after all just look at my avatar.)

It's been a thing since T5 and I love it. Forn instance, you have no idea how much favor Shaheen's Arabic dialog is gaining in the Middle East.

What language does everyone's favourite alien robot samurai, Yoshimitsu speak?

It doesn't matter what language he speaks because he is going to stab you.

Sure it doesn't make some sense (unless if you believe martial arts mastery comes with language courses which is totally my headcanon) but I much prefer everyone speaking they're native tongue. Has a lot more flavour than everyone speaking English with an accent.

They can understand King, right?
I know it may be hard understanding a different language, but it's like Skippy the Bush Kangaroo with him.

You don't really need to know the specifics when the general gist is "hey jerk, let's fight!" That transcends language.

I do wholeheartedly believe that Heihachi can speak bear, however.

They dabbled with having them all speak just English or Japanese with SFxTKN but in the stuck either the current setting. I actually like it, even if Shaheen's accent is completely wrong.
