LGBTQIA+ |OT9| The Return of the Queen

eh. i'll pass.

i'm the b in lgbtqia.

it's important to differentiate because we're all going through different things, together. 'gsm' feels so corporate and soulless.

I read a criticism a few times of GSM that its originator wanted it to include paedophilia but I didn't find a source.

The visibility of the individual subgroups is important. Labels that try to homogenise us will be read over time as just meaning the dominant subgroup. Not that this doesn't happen with LGBTQIA as a label but the letters are a bit of a defense against it. Those homogenising terms like queer etc are fine if people listening are aware what it actually means.

My views on this are quite strong from the use of the label "Gay" as an umbrella term for the whole community. People have allowed it and then had it turned against them. eg defending exclusion of bisexuals by saying "This is GAY pride*" (or pick a noun). While also saying it's an umbrella term and why be so stuck on and wanting inclusion in the name of something. That is why.

*Despite the history of pride having trans and bi people from its beginning, just erased by this.

I'm of the opinion that we shouldn't ever try to be mainstream just for the sake of people "understanding" some letters (actual erasure). so eh no

I kind of like that about it, not in lieu of lgbtqia though, but it being hyper-abstract and requiring only 3 key presses has its own kind of charm. Basically what's good and bad about it is the same thing (you can be a little more glib in using it). It's kind of like POC or something.

Like with women's rights and minority rights, no one on the outside wants to do the work to make sure equality exists before begging to be part of or outright destroy the concept of marginalized people celebrating themselves. Dude in that topic literally flippantly talks about how he's "squicked out when he sees a trans person in the bathroom but obviously, that's their right" but doesn't reconcile that that literally deadly reality for trans people is not even close to being shy about your BDSM or swinging kinks.

I had to stop lurking and come out and post for once because it annoyed me so much. And hello all!

But like why does representation even matter? I don't even notice the sexuality of the characters I play. Why should it even matter??

BIOWARE HAS UGLY CHICKS IN THEIR GAME?????!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?! UNACCEPTABLE.

It's basic requirement for a female character to have a large bosom or a thick ass.

Hello thank you. Like how is this not a SUPER COMMON genre? Even a San Fran 2049 reboot would be acceptable.

Wasn't there a dev (some ex-Criterion dudes?) working on a new Burnout type of game? Last I heard about it was probably two years back, though. Work faster, lazy indie bruhs

Sorry if it came off that way. I was referring to one OT thread so I didn't think it was off-topic, and this is not the first time I've seen the same type of discussion being handled in this forum (as someone said there, a non-issue). Either way, I'm sorry.

They actually churned out two games already! Dangerous Golf and Danger Zone.

Both are basically just Crash Mode from Burnout 3/4. Budget release in both cases.

If only someone made a Burnout 3/4-style game again :'(

Just received hate mail from a student that didn't pass. I am crying so hard. This must be the toughest job in the world. She wrote so many lies and horrible things about me

Just popping in to mention that we're planning to create a new community thread on asexuality etc., as the thread mentioned above demonstrates that a lot of people have misconceptions about what it is or isn't and I've had a few PMs from people who haven't felt this thread really caters for them (even though you're all lovely people).

Just an fyi and a heads-up to those who might be interested.

And the aforementioned thread on asexuals and pride that's still rumbling on really is a shitshow.

The teachers always have it hard. It's such a tough job, and even though it has many perks, situations like these make me feel for all the people doing that job.

I don't know if it's of any comfort to you at the moment, but the most important thing is that your conscience is clean. You did nothing wrong. Those tests she failed are the proof that she didn't learn enough, or at all.

Btw, my sister is a teacher in an elementary school. Teaches German (elective classes). The thing is, she (and some of her colleagues) has had more than a few cases where kids wouldn't be bothered to learn shit, and their parents would still pressure teachers to give their kids better grades or at least a pass grade. Once the teachers complied and those kids got those grades, you know what happened once they got to the high school? They started blaming the very same teachers who gave them good grades for the bad ones they now get as highschoolers.

tl:dr = you can't please everyone, you'll never be able to do that. You did nothing wrong and it's all that matters. If you had awarded that student of yours a pass grade, you would have done her a disservice and it still wouldn't have sufficed because she's an immature POS!

Thank you, Vazduh. I don't want to talk about this right now, but thank you for caring. It's tough, but that's what makes me want to be alive. And I will not give up

Yeah, I agree that a second thread should be made. A lot of people don't feel "at home" here, and that is no one's fault really (although IMO people should post close to none "hot men" material). Congrats and I hope more people feel safe here at GAF with this.

The thread(s) used to be quantifiably worse with that, but I agree that there's more that can be done if it's actually intended to be inclusive to all. I have to admit that I have been complicit with it previously as well.

In any case, I support the creation of further spaces as is necessary.

The reason that I don't post very much in this particular thread is that, while I'm an outspoken LGBT+ identifying poster, I don't feel included here because of all the "hot men" posts that include nothing but cis-White gay men, or just cishet White men in general. When I was lurking, I distinctly remember a member in this thread argue in favor about the legitimancy of having a "preference" for White men that unfortunately excluded any QPOC that he might consider "sexually attractive" per his definition.

As a QPOC and as a gay, polysexual man, I find it hard to fit in here because of this.

I think it has gotten much more inclusive over time. I'd love for you to be able to feel comfortable here.

Yeah, it's definitely better! But a lot of bridges were already burned. We can do better as a community

Couple of things:

1. I'm not sure exactly who that was, but I can assure you that person was certainly dragged.

2. I feel that I see a good amount of diversity in terms of pics. I won't argue that it's probably leaning toward los diablos blancos but you can always help change that.

I think this thread is pretty welcoming in general, but your feelings are just that, yours. Hopefully you can feel more included.

I feel similar in many ways when it comes to inclusion and being apart of LbGTQ+ Gaf.

However for me that is largely because I'm a lesbian and the lesbian community we have on Gaf is much fewer or much less vocal so there just isn't very much for a lesbian to talk about and with it being so male heavy the thread doesn't pull me like maybe it could.

That said while the content doesn't include for myself as much as I wish the majority of the posters in the thread have treated me kindly and been welcoming so really maybe with the ebb and flow of time I will see more that will pull me in more direct way and cause me to post more often.

A breakdown of LGBTQIA+Gaf strawpoll respondents (people can vote for more than one response).
52 cisgender
48 gay
29 bisexual
14 pansexual
12 transgender
11 queer
8 genderqueer/non-binary
8 questioning
8 asexual
6 lesbian
0 intersex

http://www.strawpoll.me/11583327

Hadn't voted but yep this is what I was getting at. Honestly with so little lesbian presence I can't really blame Gaf for he lack of feeling like there is heavy lesbian representation in the thread.

I've mentioned it before, but while I don't consider myself trans at all, I don't feel "cis" to be honest, not 100% anyway. I don't give it much thought now but it was torture growing up, I just wanted to be agendered, if such thing exists.

It's funny, I even have a beard now, but it's more for other personal reasons than me liking my masculinity, I really don't like it, I merely tolerate it.
