Yard Sale / Thrift Store Finds Thread

England here, bought a big box of hundreds of old coins for £35 from a junk store. The box was wooden and at the back of a stack of junk. I asked about something in that stack (I was eBay selling at the time) and the guy dug it out revealing this box he forgot was even there.

He didnt look much through the box and let me have it for a great price considering there were a few bits of silver, mostly copper young Victoria coins, Edwardian
a few very tarnished probably 16th century and a clipped silver medieval groat.

But the best thing in that box was this: (not my photo)

Three fingers tall and wide, a huge beast of a coin made of silver. 30 TARI from Malta 1756 worth between 400-500£ In fantastic condition.

It was a good day.

Picked up a bunch of new release xbox360 games from a garage sale for $4 each years ago. Apparently their son got into trouble and moved out, and they decided to sell his shit he didn't take.

Otherwise I've had decent luck with getting decent furniture and stuff from sales, but not much else.

Being able to buy tons of little figures from like Ultimate Muscle and shit for basically pennies is great. Not to mention stuff people might as well be throwing away like comic books.

Now that's cool.

Sometimes I dream of finding a secret compartment in an old piece of furniture full of old coins and stuff, then buy it cheaply.

What's so special about this cap?

The Irish Setter Red Wings stuff is very sought after. Go on eBay and search for the boots. The hats, this one especially, doesn't come up for sale very often. Also, yes, "VTG" does stand for "vintage" as others stated before. I normally write it all out but when I run out of room I use the three letters.

mikespit1200, that's an awesome gaming haul!

Most likely picked clean by the time you get there.

If you see just sports games in a video game section, RIP

Yeah really. I mean, it's one of two things. Either they had a bunch of games and they were completely picked over OR the folks that donated them sold off all of their games with any value and got rid of the "trash". I think it's more likely they were picked over in store considering many of those games are from parents getting rid of their kid's old items, things like that.

A few of the thrift shops I go to put the most valuable stuff (that they are able to discern as valuable) in a glass display case and you need to bid on anything inside them. Definitely not a fan of that format, but I can see why they do it.

Anyone in the NJ/NYC know events like the Meadowlands flea market ? I always enjoy going to that place from time to time to get some finds

Yeah, the ones around here do that too. They don't know what they are doing. It's so amusing the items they decide to put in there. One store around here has all of their Disney VHS tapes in the glass case priced over $10 each, some around $30 or so. They keep adding more and more and obviously none of them ever sell. I'm all for it because that means less space in the case and actual valuable items make it to the actual floor.

The other day I found a brand new copy of Ultimate Ghosts 'N Goblins for the PSP in the glass case but they only had it priced at $2. There never seems to be any rhyme or reason to how they price anything. Yesterday I found a copy of Skyrim for PS4 that I was gonna just by for myself, a used copy, but they had it priced for almost $20 so I obviously didn't pick it up.

Another gross thing I saw yesterday was some of the games in the case. They had the "color of the week" price tag on them, been there for weeks like that. This week when that color finally went on sale some scumbag went back and just put a new color of price tag on them where you can blatantly see the previous color. Just so they didn't have to do 50% off on them. So stupid.

I bought a bunch of Jehovah's Witnesses audio cassettes from the 80s yesterday for a couple bucks. I should be able to flip them for $50-$100 or so.

A new goodwill opened up near me today, almost forgot too but I was passing by on the way to the grocery store. Nothing too great but I got a brand new Microsoft Arc mouse, Never used. Always wanted one for my Surface but was never willing to spend 60$ for it. 10$ worked for me though.

A few weeks ago my wife and I found an original xbox launch console in perfect condition with 5 controllers (2 wireless) and 20 games for 40 dollars at a rummage sale. Then last week we stopped at a random garage sale and got a brand new PS2 with 2 controllers and 5 random sports games for 20 dollars and also at the same garage sale found a brand new xbox one s with an extra controller for 175. People in South Dakota have no idea what video games are worth. By brand new I just mean they had obviously been opened and played but couldn't have been played more than a handful of times at most.

Earlier today I stumbled into one of my best finds yet.

I did some cleaning and reorganizing trying to get the nursery ready for our first child due in July and I found this in the process! I bought it over a year ago before I knew what I was doing? Just knew "Sony Walkman" and picked it up, never researched or tested it, and stashed it away where I ultimately forgot about it. It is fully working complete with original manual, headphones, and the little plastic tray. It even still has the original "demonstration" cassette tape inside. I'm stunned!

At the end of the day Sunday, I found a panasonic laserdisc player and a double deck Yamaha tape player with the box. The guy only wanted a dollar for each because he didn't want to pack the stuff up. Probably would've wanted $15 or more on Friday.

$2 for everything. It was stored next to a dryer for years. Cleaned it. Somehow it still works.

It smells fucking terrible. Hopefully I can trade it in at the used game store I go to.

I found five great dress shirts and one pair of slacks the last time I was at the local thrift shop here (all either Canali or Zegna), paid $60. After getting a few alterations done I was still under $100. Came away feeling pretty great about that.

Damn, nice ROI

Thanks! It's been an abnormally great week overall. That Walkman I posted earlier I sold for $250. I've sold around 18 things the last seven days dor an average price sold of around $80 or so. This isn't normal this time of year. It has been a horrible last few weeks or month or two. That Summer slowdown and all. We are blessed right now, and coming at a perfect time with our little girl due on July 16th.

This is another one I bought in the last week for around $3, listed that night, and it sold in less than a day. A vintage 1950s Redskins child size jacket...
