They're starting to add stuff that should have been in day one to begin with

It's annoying how Nintendo also is doing this early access games sell for $60 at launch

As Kid Cobra and Byte and Bark mains this makes me quite sad. :(
Everything sound great (especially Hydra nerfs), but...

Whyyyy?! That was my favorite stage - I was on an undefeated streak there!
I've heard a few people argue that it shouldn't be on competitive due to the spinning tops. I really enjoyed playing that stage though so I am a bit sad it's out of competitive, glad they replaced it with another stage at least.

What? How is this stuff that "should have been in day one?" The game already had an amazing roster and stage lineup; this is just one extra character and stage. There's also a new mode on top of the ~10 modes that were already there. These add value on top of what was already a great package. These also keep the momentum going by giving people reason to tune back in.

I didnt buy the game because it wasn't worth the 60€ asked imo but I dont get the "should have been in day one".

And lol at early access comment, didn't know they released a beta...

•Increased the amount of time it takes to recover when a grab is deflected with a single punch.

Does this mean reliably punishing throw attempts? Will canceling into Rush (for the interrupted thrower) still work?

Will try tonight - might help get me back into ARMS.
I know it's scrubby, but not being able to punish throws I can react to reliably has really put me off this game. Hope it feels better to play.

Have you tried using one ARM at a time and try to block grabs with your other ARM?

My main problem is that grabs just do too much damage imo. I know, I know 'gitgud' and all that, but it was incredibly frustrating in the test punch with how easy grabs are preformed and how little the consequences are for them.

They made it easier to punish in this update.

Plus punching them with one ARM helps.

Consequences are huge when you fail a grab. Failing a grab (and it's very easy to deflect or dodge a grab) means you're defenseless for a good 3 seconds and the opponent can easiy grab you in reaction/unleash its super/throw a charged direct hit.

The throw option select to rush still works. And it's really bullshit with characters like Ribbon Girl or Helix that are hard enough to hit in the first place.

Mechanica and Mummy need some work. They are extremely easy to beat with electric weapons, but really hard to take down without them, due to essentially taking twice as many hits to kill as other characters. I don't like to carry an electric weapon, for variety's sake and to give the Mechanica/Mummy a fighting chance, but the amount of punishment they can take is really ridiculous (though I still use ice glove to sit Mechanica's ass down lol).

Oh, and some bullshit: Max Brass's auto-buff on wakeup deflects throws. I get why it's like that, but fuck that. I've been counter-rushed several times due to not realizing I've triggered his red life buff.

Lol final battle in Grand Prix with Max is just vs Max Brass his golden clone:p

New Hedlock mode is cool tho and the new champion stage cool to have, it's also added to 1 vs 100 by the way!

I don't mind updates like this it's all free after all i prefer this and Splatoons model over 50$ season passes.

Isnt it a bit early for a 2.0 update when the game launched just ~3 weeks ago? Curious to why they didnt wait. But regardless, seems like a good update :)

The update it's cool, but I still think this was a free on disc DLC.
The arms, Max and the stage were already on the cart so basicaly I thik this was pulled from the game to stall for the next update (and not having a 2 month wait).

It wasn't. If it was on disc, there wouldn't be a download, or it wouldn't be more than a few KBs.

Yeah, you can see the you've done it right if on the ARM select screen it doesn't show the thumbs up grip. And you can Switch between them on the fly just by pressing X/Y.
Still can't figure out how to disable the motion controls. What am I doing wrong?

Splatoon does exactly this. Heck the new umbrella weapom type is usable on campaing mode.

Edit: splatoon stagered relrase was so succesful that now people believe splatoon had more content than arms on launch day.

Yes it is but honestly all they needed to do was remove the hover board things and the stage would be OK to use IMO. Game is sorely lacking in variety as is...

That stage is way to big to be played without the snake boards. Fast players could just get a health lead and then run out the timer while you have to chase them all over the giant stage.

By making your own lobby that's locked.

Just click on the friends tab in the main menu.
Well no, that's not what was asked. Want to queue up w friends and fight randos together.

The other answer sounds like an ok solution. Hope the lounge app makes it easier to join o and queue together.

Where do people get these crazy theories from?

How is it a crazy theory?
Max was on the game
The Stage was on the game
The 3 arms were on the game.

Then why wasnt Max playable on launch?
I understand that they want more updates to have people coming back to the game. But I really think Max should have been playable from day one unless they really couldnt finish it on time (I doubt it).

Maybe we downloaded the textures for the alt colors, and the new Headlock mode.

Probably testing over his character to well suite players.

To make him not seem OP. I do not know lol.

I'm not a big fan of locking on-disc content for the sake of updates, but if the updates are free that takes a lot less heat off the issue. I do wonder what the pace of the updates will be. I'm hoping for one update per month, giving us a pretty meaty game by year end.

I am just curious about these events.

Will we have events that have limited timed modes like Overwatch and Splatoon.

Excited to play this tonight. I'm a bit bummed that the skate park is out of ranked though. It really felt like a unique level.

Both players deal with the same conditions within it so I don't see how it's "unfair" or less worthy of being a ranked arena.

Same here. I bet the first one will happen fairly soon. I doubt they would have added that without something closely pending. They might do it right before Splatoon comes out.

I really wish they would add the option to use split joycons without motion controls. I prefer that to using the grip.

I was really bummed to find out that this wasn't an option. Was playing my Switch in the backyard and couldn't understand why ARMS wasn't working with my split controls!

Anyway, I love how meaty this update is. Gives me tons of hope for the future of the game. I really enjoy having it on my Switch for some quick play every now and then.

I could get behind a schedule of ARMS updates and events on Tuesday night / Wednesday, and regular Splatoon 2 updates on Fridays like the last game. It's a good way to keep both games relevant concurrently.

The Headlock mode is extremely fun.

Adding cool modes like that would be great.

That would be nice. It's going to be pretty difficult for me to keep up with both games, so having events not clash between the two would help. I'm pretty sure I'll just end up shelving Arms for a while and return to it once Splatoon dies down a bit, but if the events in Arms are really fun I can fire it up for those.

Wait, really? You can't do that? I don't have my Switch yet (it's on order), but that was going to be my primary way of playing games on the TV. Is there something in the Joycon grip that talks to the Switch?

Just because a character is in a fighting game as a CPU opponent, it doesn't necessarily mean they are ready for release as a playable character.
