Does someone have some current Melodic Death Metal recommendations for a fan of Gossow-era Arch Enemy, earlier In Flames, The Duskfall, Mors Principium Est, Children of Bodom, Opeth, Dark Tranquility, Amon Amarth, etc.?
Mostly Arch Enemy and earlier In Flames.

No Thrash influence, please.

Amorphis, Insomnium, Paradise Lost, Katatonia

Specifically have you heard the most recent Amorphis album? It's brilliant, super powerful and melodic.

For the In Flames/ Dark Tranquility/ Arch Enemy stuff: Be'Lakor, Insomnium, Barren Earth, Amorphis, Soilwork, Omnium Gatherum, Kalmah, and most obviously At the Gates

For more Opeth like: Ne Obliviscaris, Enslaved, Agalloch, Anciients, Ihsahn, Soen

And just some others: Katatonia, Borknagar, Persefone

Besides the obvious picks I'll throw in Bloodshot Dawn and In Vain.

2 thoughts I had while reading that Bill Ward's favorite metal albums list.

1: Wow, that's a weird, very recent album heavy list.
2: I wonder how many seconds into a Krisiun song Bill Ward play drums on before spontaneously combusting.

I saw Undergang last weekend and they fucking killed. If they are coming to your city I highly recommend you check them out. It was the nastiest death metal show I have been to in a long time.

What's with DragonForce and picking fucking amazing co-tour choices. Next they'll announce that they're doing an encore North American tour with Gloryhammer.

Disarmonia Mundi is my favorite melodeath band. It's the vocalist from Soilwork and some Italian dudes. Great stuff. Check em out!

I was wondering if they were ever gonna find a replacement for Brutal Dave. That is some motherfucking drumming right there.

Reminds me of the time I was listening to Degenerating Anthropophagical Euphoria at work and a coworker walked by right as the first song ends and the "I'm going to kill, i'm going to kill you and fuck you at the same time" sample plays. My coworkers are used to me blaring some weird shit but he did a double take.

Wow, didn't even realize that the lead singer of Symphony X is the lead vocalist. I just assumed Adrenaline Mob was kind of a generic Metal throwback. I guess I should check out their music?

This band really can't catch a break. The also crashed in 2014, where their equipment was broken and they had to cancel their tour. Then their drummer AJ Pero (of Twister Sister fame) died and now this.

To be honest, I am not sure, because that is exactly what they are, and more to 00's metal (think Disturbed, Drowning Pool etc.) than anything else to my ears. Plenty of people who enjoy that, offcourse, but it is nothing like Russel Allens other work. In fact, that is probably why the band got so much hate over the internet, people where expecting something else out of a collab between Russel Allen and Mike Portnoy.

That said, there is no denying there were/are some talented individuals in the band an I absolutely wish them the best offcourse.

The bassist that died also played for the Transeberian Orchestra (Russel Allen sings for them as well during their live shows).

Saw Avatar yesterday at Rockfest in Cadott. Man those fuckers were so fun to see live. I wish I liked more of their music, though the setlist they played was all pretty solid. Might have to at least nab those songs.

Everyone was having a blast on stage though, and it was pretty infectious. They were fairly early on, but they managed to get the crowd of mostly people sitting and waiting for the next band to party a bit.

Shame they didn't play "When the Snow Lies Red" though :(

Other bands were good, though I doubt anyone here gives a shit about nu metal so I'll keep that to myself :p

If ya see me don't be afraid to say hi!

Same! Killers tee. Which isn't much of an identification at this particular event lol.

I haven't been to this venue before but maybe we should have a quick gaf meet up either between sets or after?

I'll have white shorts and a 'dance with the dead' tee on.

I decided on TTC, so I probably should've left by now, but will leave shortly, I don't really care for Ghost. I've been to the amphiteatre multiple times. Just glad for a lovely day to enjoy lawn seats.

Its my first time too, Im down for that though. Currently making my way over.

I was gonna uber over around 7. Is there a particular bar at the stage that would be a good place to say hi after ghost?

The weather said look for thunderstorms tonight lol which is why I brought my jacket despite it being very hot.

No worries, getting out was a cluster fuck. I did walk past two people in Killers shirts though but I wasn't about to tap them on the shoulder and ask about NeoGAF lol
