Twin Peaks Season 3 OT |25 Years Later...It Is Happening Again

Oh and I can't forget how Lynch likened his multiple divorces to buying new cars and eventually getting tired of them.

I get your perspective much more now. You don't like Lynch so you are not going to like his points of view on much of anything. Completely understandable.

Coma after the explosion and gave birth to John Justice Wheeler's kid (ew) while in a coma? And is still in that coma?

That's my bet. Unless other material has talked about what happened to her after the explosion that I don't know about.
I could understand Richard's anger in that case. Would also go wild, if I was his kid.
I think it depends how you look at it, for me part of Twin Peaks has always been building up its characters rather than just the narrative. From that perspective a lot happened this episode as we built up the relationship between Cooper (not Dougie) and Naomi more, which when Cooper returns to himself and not Dougie will be important when that bridge comes.

The music scenes are indeed partially what Lynch likes, but also since these weren't developed as episodes but as a long movie and so there weren't planned ending points for each episode. I think they filmed 16 musical performances and then put them in each episode, more often at the end as an ending point (I say 16 because Part 1 doesn't have one and I kind of doubt the series final does either), but other times elsewhere if there's a better ending point Lynch decides while editing. I can understand the annoyance somewhat, but it'd really either be this or abruptly stopping at points since where episodes begin and end weren't really planned.
I agree actually, but the editing so far hasn't exactly worked for me overall in quite a few cases.
Alot of scenes, I would have placed differently with quite a few smaller scenes getting put into a bigger one.
With the exception of episode 8 obviously :D

Regarding the music, I've seen more than points that episodes could have ended on.
The log lady scene today would have been perfect, because you'll keep thinking about her words.

His perspective on women is superficial and lecherous. He also fetishizes the disabled. I like his films a lot but when his flaws in these areas become as apparent as they did in tonight's episode they become hard to justify. If you have some kind of argument for the artistic merit behind using disabled or handicapped people to make a scene creepy, or why women are always victims in his work with the exception of Janey E, id love to hear it.

Why does this have to be like other TV shows or movies?

It doesn't. But in my opinion the quality of the show is suffering. It's not The OC. It's a surreal, experimental TV show. It can easily have more memorable, chilling endings that have People (GAF) talk about it enthusiastically. Let's not kid ourselves and act like these musical performances are satisfying endings.

Again, just an opinion. Agree to disagree I guess.

I thought that was a damn good episode with every scene clearly carrying plot forward (except for maybe Jerry in the woods & Nadine listening to the radio). Good characterization of the FBI guys, and a ton of movement in Vegas. Dougie Jones is in peril again, for the cops to swoop in & realize he's someone else in the witness protection program....

Condemning political correctness and saying "if you don't like it, turn it off". Are you even trying to have a debate with anyone here?

I'm really not. I have zero interest in debating whether or not it's good or bad for fictional people to have fictional things happen to them. It's such a complete nothing issue to me. I'm sure you can find someone to debate it with though!

It's David Lynch. A true auter. You have to give into his vision 100% or not at all. If you aren't willing to let Lynch do pure unfiltered Lynch then well, that is your loss. You can't treat this like a normal show. You have to let Lynch do his thing.

It would be real cool if this thread didn't have to devolve into bitter arguing every week.

I'm a huge Lynch fan. Not just Twin Peaks. Any bitterness I communicate in my posts comes from disappointment. I'm really just expressing that disappointment.

I do understand however that in a way, going into the OT of something I'm no longer enjoying is kind of shitting on the parade, so I'll try to refrain from posting anything past my initial reaction to each episode, I suppose.

I don't know. Yes women are often victims in his work but many also are empowered. Or it's not their fault they are victims. I don't think he ever blames any of these women for the suffering they receive. I don't know if Lynch's on screen surrogates are a sort of wish fulfillment there to save the day.

Most of the men in his movies aren't good people either. Most are actively terrible. I think McLachlan's characters are the only genuinely good men in any of his movies. And even then they make plenty of mistakes.

But women seem to love working with him. I really want to look up interviews with all his leading ladies and see what they say about the characters they've portrayed. We know Sheryl Lee has talked about how victims of abuse thank her for FWWM.

I want to say it's more complicated than you think, but I need to look into it more.

As for the new series, not passing judgement on these female characters yet. I have no idea how these stories play out. Lynch often upends everything we know about characters.

Let's all just take a second to talk about Harry Dean Stanton playing his guitar, living that life.

All the while shaking his head at the occasional coffee cup that goes sailing through a nearby window :p

Maybe already mentioned elsewhere in the thread, but looking forward to seeing his new movie "Lucky". Lynch even has a part!

Harry Dean really does deserve his own movie. Guy is 91!

Lucky looks sooooo good. Directed by wonderful character actor John Carroll Lynch!

this was tied for my least favorite episode of the season, with whichever one was the one that had the kid dying in it. I was honestly skipping through some of this episode because of how fed up I was with it. I know its a joke for people to just be like NOTHING HAPPENED: THE SHOW. But seriously, this episode was damn close to that.

Just watched the episode.

So it's officially confirmed that a Richard is Audrey's son.
I'm guessing if they don't want to be super dark about it, Jack Wheeler is his father.

While I hate broken records, I like how you can't criticize the episode without being chased out of here.

While there were things I loved, I was definitely disappointed with this episode - considering there are only eight episodes left, seeing most of it devoted to casino guys is irritating despite Candy being hilarious.

So many things can happen in eight episodes, though. S2 languished for well over half a season but the last four episodes of that was like a seasons worth of things happening.

Episode 8 felt somewhat climatic, leading to this two episode intermission...we have the eight episode third act gearing up. Should be a wild ride.

Of course, and I like to keep that in mind as well; but I'm starting to get frustrated.

Got called by work ten minutes before the end. Fortunately I just missed some singing.

Going to bed now, but overall seemed like a whatever episode. Didn't stand out as good or bad. An 'average' episode of the season.

Which is to say it was very good judged by normal TV standards. I laughed (TV remote to the face). I cried (Margaret). Can't ask for too much more.

I knew after the break it would turn into good old Twin Peaks. And that's just what it did.

I wish half of the season were more like this, but oh well.

There's too much and too little going on at once at this point. I don't care enough about any single plot thread to be invested, and I also don't have much of an expectation that half of it gets resolved by the finale.

Yes, it's a very unique show, but at the end of the day I'd take an entertaining show over a unique one if it has to be and either/or choice. More and more of each episode seems to be spent on lingering and meandering, and it's just such a frustrating chore to trudge through the plodding nonsense for a few nuggets of decent intrigue.

What's more, even the non-filler scenes are beginning to feel unnecessary. We know Richard is a dickbag, we don't need more scenes of him abusing people.

I'm basically watching out of a feeling of obligation to the original series at this point. I think a lot of others would say the same.

Thought last episode was weak, this one is great.

Weaving between horrifying, hilarious, awkward, and haunting. I'm soaking it all in.

Thoughts:

- Kyle is in damn good shape.
- His expression during the sex scene had me rolling.
- Richard, Chad, and Steven = scums of the earth
- Loved the Harry Dean Stanton scene.
- Loved the Log Lady scene.
- Loved the Jacobi rant.
- Morgue Lady and Albert hitting it off YES.
- End song is great.

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
So, that was the Silencio singer from Mulholland Drive, right? Her dress looking like the floor of the waiting room......

I really thought the sex scene was what would make Dougie snap back lol....

Kind of an underwhelming episode but that's fine. Hoping things start kicking into gear here soon now that the casino brothers are really after Dougie. Also, Richard Horne's inevitable death will be the most satisfying thing ever because fuck that guy.

Episode wasn't the greatest but I enjoyed it.

Also, that Evil Coop + Audrey = Richard theory makes perfect sense but man that'd be fucked up.

JFC that awful song at the end lasted forever. Autotuned trash. What a waste of 5 minutes, and the ep was only 53 minutes.

I'm officially over dougie and I'm pissed that it's now just another plan to kill him, starting up.

This week was a terrible episode with some great moments. Editing felt all over the place. I wont debate anything related to Lynch's views on women, wich are terrible, but nobody can tell me Tammys character is anything but couch casting from him. Her acting isnt bad, its non existant. I was actually hoping she is an actual Doppel from the original Tammy that didnt get the "Move around and use facial expressions like human beings" crash course on Doppel School after she left the Black Lodge.

I feel you. It's way too self indulgent at the 10/18 hour mark.

agreed. WTF is up with her character? She's sure not the TP from The Secret History book. She barely does anything except look curvy. And that's not the actress's' fault.

Granted a lot of people seem to live in trailers in and around the town but the blunt force trauma murder in that one woman's trailer reminded me of Leland/Bob's killing of Teresa Banks in FWWM. I wonder how Bob's essence might be spread to offspring like that. Still not convinced Richard is Mr C's son though.

Rebekah was just fine. I knew I had heard that voice somewhere.

And I felt one hell of sense of dread when Cole was opening the door and saw Laura outside his room.
