Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is up on US Netflix

For a character that only appears in one movie for 10 minutes, that black guy in the power armor had an awesome design.

Wish he was used more than he was...

Felt that way about a lot of the characters actually. Minigun dude and pilot guy were barely used in anything and felt kind of wasted. I wanted to see more of the funny robot guy. The movie focused too much on the boring characters and not the really interesting ones sitting right next to them.

It's still a good movie, though. I liked it.

Check out Clone Wars & Rebels, he was in a couple episodes.

I need to rewatch this. To be honest I thought it was horrible while watching in theaters. It was all I could do to stay awake. But with all the people who liked it I wonder if I'm missing something.

Love this movie, once the credits started rolling the theater didn't move and was silent, just digesting the powerful final 40 minutes of the film and catching their breath.

One of my biggest pet peeves was
the locket being completely dropped from the movie. They make a big deal about the father giving it to the main character (can't even remember her name), then Donnie Yen makes a big deal out of it when they meet to just disappear from the movie. No memory accompanied by it or it being something special like a light saber crystal or something. Which is what I thought they were going to go with it the mining of the Jedi Temple by the Empire, making it one of the precious few that would remain. I don't know I'm drunk
.

That necklace was a Kyber Crystal which is what Jedi/Sith use in their lightsabers. The same crystals the Empire was stealing from Jedha to make the Death Star which Jyn's father designed. So that is a connection. Also the crystal is what helped Chirrut notice her in the crowd since she wasn't a Jedi and wouldn't have otherwised noticed her.

But yes, there was some very early talks about Jyn being a Jedi but it was correctly written off and I am glad for it.

It was a kyber crystal. Donnie Yen's character, Chirrut, manages to pick out her out of the crowd because he can feel its presence.

In a very early draft of the script Jyn's mother was going to be a Jedi. Her passing on the crystal to her daughter for good luck was what remained of that plot point. She's seen holding it when they escape Jedha as it's destroyed.

Edit: Now it looks like I just copied Experien's post ha.

It honestly felt like those moments were setups for a bigger practical payoff at the end. Either way, it was a minor flaw, I still liked the movie well enough.

Ha, yeah they sort of dangle it in front of the audience but then just completely forget about it. The Forrest Whittaker character also had this problem which was much more jarring and just made me completely lose interest in the movie due to how incoherent it was.

I'm glad
she's doesn't have the Force but if you're going to put the crystal mining in the movie
I expect this to be payed off in the movie, not a random cartoon episode or book. I feel having to meet the annual quota deadline just made the movie feel schizophrenic as it doesn't know what it wants to be and what it wants to show, which brings me back to me being completely uninterested in the assembly line Star Wars production they have planned.

I'm kind of surprised at the backlash in here since a couple diehard fans I know were saying they thought Rogue One might've been the best film in the franchise.

jon bones

hot hot hanuman-on-man action
i enjoyed it at the time but like all star wars films i just bounce right off them with no desire to revisit

I liked this film a lot. This thread is kinda odd to me. Because I remember the consensus on GAF being "Wow, so much better than TFA" when it came out. Which, I disagreed with, as I think TFA is a much stronger film, but this is also great.

I really liked this film and enjoyed it more than TFA, which I also liked.

I like that Rogue One completely mixed up the formula. TFA played it way too safe which is why it kinda sucks. It wasn't prequel bad, but it wasn't much better.

I love Sci-Fi and Fantasy and all but Rogue One was a snorefest. My brother and his friend walked out halfway through. I wanted to but just sat there hoping for the movie to redeem itself which it never did.

My thoughts exactly. Rogue one grew somewhat for me on rewatches, which TFA didn't.

I'll check it out again but to me it's just meh. I don't care about the death star plans and I don't care about any of these characters because they don't give me a reason to.

You read that right, but it doesn't matter.

Sure it does. You kinda gotta watch a movie first before anyone gives a shit about your opinion on it.

And even then, results vary.

(I've seen a lot of movies and people tend to give only the slightest of fucks about 13.4 % of my opinions on them)

Saw this and La La Land in the same day and preferred La La Land. Rogue One didn't do anything for me and I recently watched a video that explained the differences between showing and telling what's happening, and why this made TFA a more successfully told story.

I'll probably rewatch this either way, but can't say I remember thinking too highly of it.

Well of course but... i loathe LOATHE the new villain they introduced in TFA, so honestly not having him in Rogue One already makes it that much better than TFA for me.

Rewatched it at home about a month ago. One gif sums this movie up pretty well.

It's a more competent movie than the prequels but that doesn't mean much. Seriously baffling to me that people like this over TFA. To each their own though of course.
