I think Republicans are more scared of the base he commands rather than the man himself. Before, he was clearly very good at campaigning so its worth their while to support the man.

After his initial rallies, the man has been nothing but an impediment and distraction for the GOP. He can't shut the fuck up on Twitter so there's this constant Russia cloud looming over whatever the GOP does. He doesn't know anything about policy so he can't actually sell complex legislation to the public. He can't even get his "Made of America" week to look good because the first thing people ask is "well, why do Ivanka Trump shoes have made in China stamped all over it?".

There's a degree of evidence that he's been a net negative towards their Obamacare repeal dreams. I don't doubt that the GOP absolutely hates having a President that is worse than useless.

But those aren't the questions anyone remembers. The big takeaway from most news outlets RE: Comey, Sessions, and Rosenstein public sessions was focused on Trump. So long as Clinton isn't president, she doesn't matter to the general public. There are plenty of Republicans who will try to cloud that, but, at least in the case of the Senate, those persons aren't the heads of the Intel committees. Even Rubio grew some balls questioning Sessions.

But there's significant evidence that he's failing at that right now. And that's why Republican congressmen have been a lot less careful about their actions around Trump because the man can't actually do shit

You're absolutely right. I actually think that if the peepee tape is real a GOP diehard will leak it because it gives them an out of sorts.

The evangelicals will bail and the maganauts will pretend it's just a prank bro and it doesn't matter who's in charge both sides blah blah.

Polls show evangelicals as the group with the largest amount of support for their dear leader weirdly enough. It's working class that's shown the steepest drop in support over the past few months.

(Although support for him is down across the board among most demographics)

If the Gallup (or is it Pew?) poll is accurate, the most damning figures were the -20 drop with the working class base. That's an astronomical drop in only half a year.

The Evangelicals have already renounced everything they believed in prior to support him. They don't actually believe in Christianity. They believe in some fucked up version of American Jingoism and Trump is their new God.

Depends what's in the tape. They can't defend the version that's rumored to include the n word. Weird as that sounds. The institutions would have to at least feign some sort of outrage. Which is crazy if you think about it:

Ignore sexual deviancy and legit treason but no way out of the n word.

For evangelicals, none of that will matter. the video is of the "old" Trump. Not the new, born-again King David destined to lead the City on a Hill. They'll be repressed, but they'll still mentally support their anti-Christ.

Oh don't get me wrong I 100% agree they'd try to find "forgiveness " but by that point the powers that be will be looking for an out. Rank and file? Absolutely won't give a shit about anything except being on the team that beat Hillary and the thousand years of darkness but if we literally got to peepee land? The money will already be trying to disentangle itself. There are already people trying to find an escape trajectory.

He also doesn't even need to specify what he's pardoning; he can pardon anyone for anything or nothing at anytime, as long as he's President. These pardons last forever and cannot be rescinded.

Therefore, assuming he pardons himself before any charges, he probably can pardon himself.
