I'm upset that I still can't find a Switch in stores

Was talking to the local Best Buy guys and they were saying that they were getting stock for tomorrow in anticipation of Splatoon 2, which makes sense.

I've also seen a sign at Gamestop to basically preorder a Switch, which is basically a list you're put on and notified that they've received stock and you go pick up when able.

Nowinstock is also handy. Rule of thumb is that if it's in the flyer for Target or Best Buy, just get to the store early on Sunday and get in line.

Losing interest due to not finding the system is kinda weird when there are ways of knowing when to get one.

If you didn't reserve it you don't deserve it

Really though, I'm sorry you're having such a rough time. My only advice is to set up stock-alerts via email or something.

I know you mean say this as joke, but I hate reserving consoles and being an early adopter because of potential hardware failures. Yes, even with Nintendo, so I'm hoping I can get a Switch, preferably with Best Buy or Newegg, within the next two months or so.

Maybe they should stop sending so many to the price-gouging distributors in Scandinavia, where it seems to be overstocked. The Switch was 20% off over the weekend in Sweden and it still only brought the price in line with the UK, lol.

I hate it when thread titles get changed to something innocuous and then you're reading the first page and everyone is slagging off the title and you're like ???

Mods should leave a note or something.

Switch is available where I live but it's too damn pricey. Stock isn't the problem.

Australians, FYI, the Australian MSRP on the Switch with shipping to the US is the same as scalper prices within the US. It's pretty expensive in your country. Importing from there doesn't make a whole lot of sense unfortunately.
At the moment, you can get it 20% less so au$100 off from a local NSW shop on eBay which would amount to around us$316 tax included for the grey switch (you don't pay extra money there for importing right?).

Us$350 for neon or grey switch + Mario kart. Add us$2 for a joycon wheel set if you're into that.

Around us$360 for they grey switch + Zelda bundle.

Until stock lasts, of course.

Add around us$45-50 shipping.

Don't know if this is all worth it but I put it here for the desperate (I can help out and ship it to you because the shop doesn't do international shipping).

No? We have plenty in shops so desperate Americans are more than welcome buying these.
What is the price of a Switch in Australia? Someone said the same thing in another thread and when the price was converted to US, it was essentially scalper prices in the US. Higher than what's available on Amazon.com right now.

Edit: nvm, I see you've already answered.

Do commercials encourage customers to pre-order after launch? One of the things that irritated me with the Wii were that commercials end on the usual "Find one at your local store!" only to, of course, be told to pre-order when dropping by. This was months after it was readily apparent how high the demand were for the things.

I can buy one whenever I want. They're always in stock around here. I just don't want to, and least not for another year or so.

I have returned two Switches already due to hardware problems, so I'm not ever gonna say "even with Nintendo" ever again.

At least the Scandinavian stock situation is healthy enough that I'm able to get replacements.

I don't really understand these threads. If you really wanted it, why didn't you pre-order it? When it comes to new consoles and limited edition games, these often sell out so if you're even vaguely interested, pre-order and re-evaluate closer to the time. You can always cancel. There is no risk. Even if you don't do that, you don't have to work that hard to find stock but you do have to out some effort in besides occasionally popping your head round the door of your local merchant.

The original title was along the lines of "Nintendo really dropped the ball with the Switch..." being very vague and clickbait-y.

I pre-ordered one to get it day 1, despite not being that thrilled by the launch line-up. I remembered the Wii launch and knew that if the Switch was decent, getting one once word of mouth spread and big games came out would be a nightmare. It is possible that this thing is going to be hard to find now until after Christmas I think.

I decided I wanted a Switch and got my order in within a day. It's not that hard if you really want it. You can sign up for email, browser, and text alerts on nowinstock.net and it updates every 30 seconds.

While I was on Vacation (in Atlantic Canada The first week of July) I stumbled into two places that had stock.
I picked mine up in a Walmart in Moncton, NB. A few days later they had stock in a Toys-R-Us in Fredericton. I think you just have to be actively looking for one. Once I decided I wanted one it only took me a couple of days to find a place that had stock.

Edit: Reading back though this thread I'm wondering if I just got lucky.

I am in the same situation. Here in Tokyo it is very hard to get a switch, I have done two lottery's recently at Bic Camera, both times there were over 500 people there. When they announced the winners they revealed they only had 10 of each color Switch in stock, that's 20 switch for 500 people.

My friend has already had his RMD'd which is why I don't pre-order consoles or buy them at launch.

Sorry that it had to happen to you too.

where exactly? My friend is looking for the grey one for months.

The grey ones haven't received new shipments in weeks (or months?), not sure if it was discontinued or if shipments of that SKU are coming in again at some point in future. All new shipments have been the neon version, which has thus been in stock for a while.

Your friend could always just buy the grey joy-cons separately.

If anyone in the UK is struggling, a lot of places are back in stock now.

I struggled to get mine a few weeks ago, GAME in the UK were trying to make people buy expensive bundles, the best places to look for me were Smyths, Toys R Us, Argos and supermarket electrical departments like Tesco and Asda.

There's a good stock checker for UK peeps here

I think that's required by law.

Yeah but combine that with a big gamestop logo and it begs for theft. They need to ship kn nondescript boxes. Ive never had an issue like this with amazon's boxes despite many years buying from them. Yet (anecdotally) theft seems to be a significa t issue with gamestop's shipping.

The situation sucks, but try thinking outside of the box about how you can get one. Are there any places that stock games which most people never think of? Can you put your name down on a list anywhere? Could you have pre-ordered the Splatoon 2 bundle anywhere as it was a new SKU? Are you willing to buy a bunch of extra stuff with it? Do you care if you get a used one? Are you friends with anyone at stores that sell Switches? Are you regularly checking every online game store? Have you considered importing one?

If you're that desperate for one then put your name down at a couple of stores and say you're willing to buy a bunch of extra games and such with it, they'll roll out the red carpet for you and make sure you get a priority phone call.

At this point I'm not convinced anyone complaining they still can't find even 1 unit available for them to buy is actually doing all they can. Should you have to go to that effort? No, but you can probably thank the world's smartphone makers for the Switch being as tough to find as the Wii was. If you want it, that's the situation you're in, you either go all in or wait until stock is readily available.

They are continually restocking. It's tough and you probably won't walk in and see them on shelves but if you do some research and ask retailers when they are getting stock you should be able to find one. Good luck though!

Was the Wii situation this bad?

I'm so glad I preordered before all this happened. Playing Zelda most days abroad is amazing.

If you REALLY want to get a Switch it's not that hard to get one. I ended up calling Gamestop on shipment days until they actually got some in.
I also ended up being the fourth person in line when they only got three and just ended up buying a bundle, but that's besides the point

Stockinformer is always a good resource. Helped me pick up a switch fairly quickly (and an Xbox One back at launch)

The Switch doesn't seem to be that hard to find the UK though. Contrast that with when I was in Tokyo a couple months ago and it might as well have not even existed

Crazy what a difference a region can make. Available with deals pretty much everywhere here in Australia, maybe try pick one up online since it's region free. I actually finally caved in and bought one yesterday. Switch + Mario kart + Screen protector for less than the initial launch price.

As far as stock. I feel completely left out as a Nintendo fan. I can't find one of these things. Nintendo always promises they'll have plenty and it always turns out to be a complete lie. All these new games coming out and I'm probably not even going to be able to play them till next year maybe.

Doesn't help I'm losing interest due to the lack of stock.

Why not import? Australia has stock everywhere

The Switch is the only product Nintendo ignores demand of that's reasonable - it's a NAND constraint.

Same can't be said for exclusive or small-run Amiibos, Majora's Mask 3DS, Fire Emblem Fates collector's edition, Metroid 2 remake collector's edition, NES Classic Mini, SNES Classic Mini, GameCube adapter, and on and on.

IIRC the Wii went nuts until Christmas (it came out in the autumn) and then slowed down and then went nuts again in the run up to the next Christmas. This is going to be slow period right now until we hit spring 2018.

I want to get a Switch during Black Friday deals but at this point that seems unlikely. :(

If you mean the odds of getting one, yeah that's unlikely. But if you mean the odds of there being black Friday deals, I think that's still likely despite the demand. They won't be great deals, but there will probably be "buy a Switch and get 50% off a switch game" or "buy a Switch and get a $50 gift card" types of deals here and there. Not the kind of deals I'd personally suffer through black Friday madness for, though.

It's not impossible to get, just try harder. Call stores to ask about stock, check nowinstock constantly, check the subreddit constantly. Nintendo is trying to get the systems out there, it s up to you to get one. You can also just wait if you don't want to work for it.

It's worth mentioning that ps4 was just as hard, if not harder to get, at this point in it's life. Its not a nintendo thing. Its a reality of the society we live in today.

Has any Nintendo representant ever mentioned they have plenty? They only said they ramp up production, but this takes time. But to go occasionally to a shop to find a rare product is not a good strategy. If you had preordered you probably had Switch now.
