Splatoon 2 doesn't ask me for more money.

He seems to have gone now.

I'm wondering whether the post about the mod wanting him to suck his dick was the final straw though.....

Just as that thread was about to get even weirder...lol
Mods might be cleaning it up. Sometimes this happens. But usually the original thread just gets locked so maybe its something more.
Not only is the thread gone a bunch of replies are gone here too.

That picture scares me for some reason!

Conversely, Toni needs to grow thicker skin and not take any amount of criticism at all to mean that he should delete his account. It was a bullshit reactionary thread after this one backfired with a tired premise that applies to literally dozens of games released in the last five years. It turns out that people are tired of misinformed/ignorant posters who have lived in the Nintendo bubble for too long praising everything the company co-opts as the best new thing to happen to gaming.

Make a bad, lazy thread, expect responses in kind.

You could actually convey the same message without implying people are delusional fanboys too.

A simple list of games that don't follow the model described by that poster would work better than being an asshole.

It was likely deleted because it devolved into a weird "woe is me" thread with a meta discussion of this forum's moderation and pictures of PMs that OP had received.
It could be getting a nice little clean-up. Or it could be getting merged into this thread to become one super abomination of doom!

Or it's gone forever.

We probably should not discuss it anymore, but I will say this, if anything, people like him need to stop sucking off companies, be they Sony, MS or Nintendo or any other one. They don't care for us, we're atm's to them. The sooner every fanboys gets that through through their thin skin and thick skulls the better boards will get.

It sucks. He was cool and gave me quality spoilers. I'll miss ya bruh. Happy trails.

Back on topic, is there any thing to discuss? Some people still think that amiibo cosmetics are asking for money and no one is budging. The only thing I can think of amiibos locking serious content out is the amiibo dungeons in FE Echoes, and even then they aren't all that great and you will stomp through them at the endgame. They don't even add anything storywise.

DLC content is still DLC content. Even if the delivery method is a toy, which in this case houses exclusive DLC.

Why should it matter how "serious" the content is?

Wait, I know the answer to this one: You can use the amiibo as a type of throwing weapon to steal money from people to make back what you spent on the amiibo. Can't do that with no cosmetic DLC items in other games.

Don't do this.

It matters when it's to fit someone's agenda. Cosmetic dlc is ok being exclusive to a figurine, and isn't really dlc according to some. But paid cosmetic items in other games is dlc.

What's laughable is people are forgetting that Amiibos haven't only had cosmetic dlc locked away, it's also been used for single player levels etc.

Where do we draw the line on what content is acceptable to make exclusive to a figurine?

I personally hate dlc full stop. But it's not going anywhere, and the only thing worse than dlc is exclusive dlc locked behind figurines, oh and retailer exclusive dlc....

Cosmetic items you earn in Counter Strike, PUBG, and (the free!) Team Fortress 2 can be sold on the Steam marketplace.

No threads about it either. How 'bout that?

Because you're threatening to throw Amiibo at me!
No, you throw it at the cashier you buy the amiibo from. Don't gotta wait to get your money back then!

I don't think this will work with the yarn yoshi amiibo, they're too soft. You're gonna have to pay for those.

Because then you lose those items, you can just pick up the amiibo and run with them and your money!

Wait people have trouble ordering amiibos?
Never had any trouble finding any that were interesting.
The wolf link was sold with a game I was getting and the other Zelda related ones were regular orders from target at RRP.
People act like they're NES minis in this thread.

Is this a serious question? Lucina may be easy to get now, two years after release, but when she first went up for preorder she sold out in literally seconds.

You're joking right?
I just got a BotW Zelda and Guardian amiibo from target at no markup.
I literally have all of them except for the bokoblin and WW ones (because they suck, you know it in your heart).
And I could get them now if I wanted...without resorting to scalpers.

Good luck finding the Skyward Sword, Majora's Mask, and Twilight Princess Links at Target.

Woah...

Just read the thread: people are really awful sometimes.

Just for pointing out Nintendo's not doing what other big multiplayer titles do you're a delusional guy that praises blindly a corporation like Nintendo? Are people really fucking serious?
Now I'm curious to read said thread.

Edit: Damn, I see it was nuked.

No. Granted I'm running on the impression "asking for money" means that it's content that significantly changes the way the game is played, like as if an entire drive form in KH3 was exclusive to merchandise like play arts. That is to say you need it to have a full experience with the game.

DLC content is still DLC content. Even if the delivery method is a toy, which in this case houses exclusive DLC.

Why should it matter how "serious" the content is?

Because a skin for an item that can be replicated in game without dlc is significantly different that a whole nother scenario that is added to a games story/campaign. It would be scummy do do something like :

"Episode Prompto is only for people who brought his figurine"

because it definitely adds to the game's characters, their motivations and includes a whole new game play style. The skin is most definitely unneeded for a full gameplay experience while the above really does enhance the package and should be allowed to be brought standalone. (Some would argue it should have been in the game in the first place but that's a different argument entirely.)

This ties in to why I think the figures should get the skins. They want to add bonuses to the figures but at the same time they don't want to alienate the people who don't want the figures by giving them too big a bonus and thus skins were the answer. The real problem here is that they are making more of the wrong ones. We should be drowning in links and Ganondorfs not Isabelle and Tom Nook.

Wait, I know the answer to this one: You can use the amiibo as a type of throwing weapon to steal money from people to make back what you spent on the amiibo. Can't do that with no cosmetic DLC items in other games.

Wolf Link ain't shit. It's hardly a 'pet mechanic' like it's been described as in this thread. Wolf Link is a useless runt who dies in one hit to almost enemy in the game. You leveled him up through Twilight Princess! Cool, now he can tank two hits from an average mid-game Bokoblin and do almost no damage to it before he dies and you can't summon him back for the day. It's a nearly pointless little bonus for people who own the Amiibo.

What happened?

I can't tell but I think somebody had a meltdown and then all of their posts and threads were literally wiped from existence like dude just lost the tournament of power

What happened?
Well, in the Splatoon 2 hype someone made a thread about his love for the non DLC. A smart guy decided to respond with amiibo and the thread completely backfired after that. Anyone who defended the amiibo craze were called shills and fanboys, while those who didn't defend it grew more and more in strength. Eventually a member named Toni decided to try again. This time with Arms since there was no amiibo support.

He immediately faced backlash cause it was a copy of this thread, cause it was "obvious" he was a "Nintendo fanboy" who thinks that his "beloved company could do no wrong", another bunch of "but amiibo" responses and people were tired cause of the supposedly excess amounts of Nintendo fanboy threads that we apparently have. He got really upset and so decided to PM a mod to delete his account. People then called him "weak" for thinking that. He posted a PM he apparently received from a previous ban from a mod(?) telling him to suck his....well, you know. (NOTE:
Ok just to clear up some confusion. That post about the SMD perm ban message wasn't something that Toni received. That was from the slogan thread where people distastefully brought up the Amirox debacle.
), And another one from a banned member mocking his country. That was the breaking point and the thread was deleted entirely.

This thread is just the remains of everything now. In the long run, it was good that the other one was deleted. Should have been locked long ago honestly.

Plus Xaero Gravity had a steamy love affair with his Bayonetta amiibo and posted a picture about it. She looked very happy. I gasped at such indecency. And then his Peach amiibo got jealous and murdered him afterwards. Now he posts to us from beyond the grave.

Also Mihael cried.

There's a fine line between fan and plain weird.

If people get so defensive when someone says something negative about a material possession then something is wrong.

Gaming isn't the only place this happens either. Those types of people exist everywhere on forums across the world. Go take a look at AVS and you'll see people who love their old Kuro's so much that if you even dare to say anything negative you'll see them have a breakdown.

Some people get so defensive that you'd think based on their reaction, that someone had murdered their family...

Going back to the thread (and member) in question, he took it too seriously. So what if the majority of random internet members disagreed with him. It happens to all of us, but when you log off none of it matters. I think he made his decision on impulse, and may regret it as this forum is a good resource for anyone interested in gaming.

"Episode Prompto is only for people who brought his figurine"

because it definitely adds to the game's characters, their motivations and includes a whole new game play style.

Now find me one amiibo bonus implemented today that genuinely compares to this example.

redundant cosmetic items and weapons that won't last a day in Zelda = Episode Prompto?
cute little outfits in MK8 = Episode Prompto?
mediocre gear in Splatoon 2 = Episode Prompto?

edit: in my ignorance I didn't realize you were making the same point I was trying to in response to an argument you never made...

Maybe I'm biased, but I feel like that was an integral part of this whole story.

Uh oh. Keep it man. I don't need to see it! I already suffered enough when I discovered what Gardevoir hentai was all cause I was looking for cool pictures of her when I was young and didn't know that SafeSearch protected me from that crap!

But I did add your story in the post now cause we needed some oomph in there.

I'll get my copy next week so I haven't seen the game yet outside of the first beta/testfire. Does this mean that the game, unlike Splatoon 1, no longer has a giant Amiibo box in the hub world and doesn't contain Amiibo icons in any of the stores/rest of the game?

It does. It unlocks photo opportunities with the respective Splatoon amiibo and some clothing options that have power ups.

Why is this any different to the people who follow celebrities or sports teams? Especially if gaming from a certain company is their biggest hobby or passion? In both instances you are putting in time and money.

It's not different, fans get creepy and weird as hell in all genres of entertainment. Eminem's "Stan" is a fantastic example.

There are millions and millions of sports team fans out there and I don't see one sports team fan while arguing with the other sports fan on a SPORTS MESSAGE BOARD say to him "it's just men running after a ball, they don't even care about you, chill."

However, gamers love putting other gamers down on a GAMING MESSAGE BOARD for having passion or a connection with a company. I find that quite ironic.
