Metroid: Samus Returns amiibo functions revealed; Fusion Difficulty, Fusion Suit

I assume that stuff is unlocked normally after beating the game and you get it right away with the amiibo?

The description on the page explicitly mentions you can only unlock these extra modes after you beat the game if you use an amiibo.
There's no mention if or how you can unlock those without amiibos. It could be tied to a specific ending or completion time/rate. Or not be available at all, of course.

Eeesh. I already preordered the Samus one because it looks ace. I'm not overly interested in another.

Locking a difficulty setting and bonus features solely behind Amiibo would be a mistake.

Reading the page again, it looks like I overreacted and this might be the case.

Could still mean you have to beat the game with the Amiibo though. Which honestly would be pretty clunky if so. Beat the game four times with four Amiibo.

For the new page:

The description does not hint in any capacity at the amiibo unlocking hard mode, sound test, or the gallery before you beat the game. Instead, the description on the Japanese website explicitly states that you need to beat the game to unlock these features, while using an amiibo.

This makes sense.

There's also the fact that the target audience is older, so an impulse buy price point is less important.
Right. Nintendo hates admitting it, but the fact is that there are certain Amiibo figures treated as collector's items first, and even though they've been a lot better about shortening the time on reprints, there's a strange dichotomy that they treat them like any other toy out there, but they give them the initial print runs as if they were for the more adult market.

Honestly, before this got out, all I was going to do with my 2-pack was open it and display them next to my Other M Samus Figma and leave a little space for when the Prime 3 Figma releases later this year.

Fuck.

Nintendo has said something similar in the past with both Star Fox Zero and Kirby Planet Robobot. In both those games, they said that the Falco arwing and the UFO ability were locked behind the amiibo but when the game released, they were both just hard to find in the game itself. So the same might be true for this one.

Ugh I hate locking legacy costumes behind Amiibos. I was lucky enough to have some Link Amiibos for BOTW but I got no Metriods and really want the fusion suit :(

I don't believe them.

The Fusion Suit thing is very close to how you got it in the first Prime.

In Prime you had to beat the game at least once and then connect a GBA with Fusion to get the suit.

I feel like like it has to be intentional with the beating the game once part before allowing you to use the suit being the same.

I had that but never used it. Thought it looked hideous when compared to the kickass Varia/Gravity/Phazon suit in Prime 1.

Locking a difficulty setting and bonus features solely behind Amiibo would be a mistake.

They've already done that between Twilight Princess and splatoon unfortunately, so this isn't even a precedent.

(The Ganondorf amiibo let you increase damage taken by X2 stacked with whatever other options you had on, splatoon locked out several weapons from the single player plus there minigame including the sound test)

Whatever is the case, please make the Fusion Suit's version of the Varia Suit look like the one on the far right and not the second one. I can't stand the "clown vomited spaghetti on Samus" suit.

Having a model and animations of the Fusion Suit, already? Nice~!

Maybe I can dare hope that next time it'll be a Post-Fusion game's turn.

I simply don't understand why you'd need the Amiibo AND to beat the game to unlock that stuff.

Look at it this way: The normal way to unlock fusion mode might be to finish the game under 2 hours. If that's too hard for you, you can use an amiibo to get easier access. It's not about getting the new mode earlier, just easier.
But unless Nintendo clarifies or someone gets hold of the game or guide, who knows?

I'd prefer if it were tied to 100% completion (because I suck at speed running Metroid)

Do we know if you can unlock this content somehow without using the amiibo? Some of these features would normally be unlocks for beating a Metroid game.

You're a Junior so I assume you don't know this yet: don't bother talking to Spieler Eins. He's grown into "I hate everything Nintendo does now, they betrayed me"-poster number one since a few years ago at least.
This is some gossipy fucking garbage tier post man. Should we all just quote people and describe our impressions of their posting styles?

No, which is why this thread has gone on as long as it has. There's precedent that it can still be unlocked (Star Fox Zero, Kirby Planet Robobot), but nothing that confirms it.

We don't know yet. This is one of those situations where the messaging needs to be crystal clear in other territories, since the fan base is a lot larger in the west than it is in Japan, and a lot of fans need to know ASAP if they need to break some bones or not to get the Amiibo 2-pack. I wouldn't be terribly shocked if these can be otherwise unlocked via normal speed run options (any%/100%/low%) and this is just a way for non-hardcore players to get their hands on them by simply beating the game, but that's just speculation based on the one other time they did something like this with Zero Mission (do those to unlock the full art gallery, or just link up to Metroid Fusion to get them unlocked automatically).

What weird logic when the Fusion Suit was unlock able in Metroid Prime.

Which was cross-promo between a simultaneous release at the time.

Ugh, why are the Metroid amiibo only available in the 2-pack? I don't really feel the need for Samus, but I DO want the Metroid amiibo (separately from its in-game functionality, I just think it looks like a cool figure).

Import from EU. Or sell the other one.

Dude, it's Spieler Eins.

It's like pointing ninjablade out to newbies in "this Nintendo game looks great" threads.

i loved how he is already gotten called out on that but even got defended lol

shouldn't this user know your Nintendo-related background too

Funny how we resort to these tactics huh? Speaks volumes about this forum.

some strange comradery

And? Metroid Prime is still a Metroid game.

I'm not really complaining, it makes sense to have something from another Sakamoto-directed 2D Metroid, but the "Metroid, not Metroid Prime" logic is some weird ass shit. Might as well say Mother Brain and Kraid skins shouldn't have been in Federation Force.

They have already locked a hard mode (or a very hard mode when combined with the other hard mode in the game) behind an amiibo. They have even locked entire playable characters behind amiibo. Shit's already been bad so I'm not really giving them the benefit of the doubt.

I'm inclined to say it will stay locked behind amiibo wall, but color me surprised if it isn't. I wouldn't even care if I could just buy the stuff digitally.

I'm not adding that to the OP until Nintendo clarifies.

Star Fox Zero was in the same situation and it turned out you could unlock those features simply by playing the game.

Wait, if there is a precedent to this particular event type then Shiggy why are you pushing this so hard?

It's the translation I'm thinking. It's pretty set (apparently?) with the amiibo unlocks. But again it's Star Fox Zer0 who's the only example we have right now.

If someone called you out comrade I'd defend you too.

Even if you immediately call me a shill.

MB has appeared in the Prime series, btw^^

The cross-pollination has always been fairly one-sided.

Just to clarify: moon introduced "calling by out poster's history to deligitimize argument" to the thread, and if he's going to do that, it's only fair if he presents his history regarding the subject as well. Ideally, that kind of thing wouldn't happen at all, and discussion would be based on what's said in that particular thread (outside of special cases). In response to a complain about a pretty clear-cut lame plan for (or at least unclear description of) Nintendo's content, it seems really unnecessary.

It's a pretty lame thing to do, but if you're going to start that, don't get indignant over people doing it back to you.

Mother Brain was mentioned in a single scan in Prime, LOL. I wouldn't call that an appearance.

If you mean the Aurora Units, no, those are not Mother Brain despite the promotional video for Corruption.

Good on you cause it sounds like BS to me anyway.
If these features were locked away behind just the Amiibos and nothing else, they would not have the extra requirement to first finish the game and then be able to unlock them with an Amiibo on top of that.
It makes no sense whatsoever.

Was there any lore connection to MB for the Aurora Units? e.g. they were based on MB, or supercomputers were designed to be like brains and MB was just a sentient, corrupted version of one, etc.

I think she's mentioned a few times in the Aurora Unit documentation and loosely referenced around the Valhalla incident.

It's never explicit, but its a fairly on the nose future setup.

Memory could be failing me though.
