Yes, Dr. Strange is looking just like I wanted him too...gameplay wise. I just don't like the boots man...and the gloves, give him the gloves.

I don't think they're replacements, but are a interesting concept from older games.

Defensive assist calling is definitely not in the game as seen in mvc2/mvc3/umvc3. Using special move then tag switch is not as safe as that.

That being said I don't think zero will be a strong as he is in mvc3 outside of specific situations. Lvl 3 buster is deflectable now and some of his normals look toned down. He will be definitely good, but that will depend on how others can contest him in this game.

People who have had hands on with him are already saying Zero is very good again. Plus who knows what uses people will find from his new moves. (https://twitter.com/hifightth/status/889447404767821824)

Looking back through the revealed variant covers, the pairings all seem to have some thematic connection:
  • Captain America & Chris - team leaders & A.I.M.brella connection
  • Captain Marvel & Chun-Li - top women from each company
  • Doctor Strange & Nemesis - Nemesis is a grotesque creature like many Strange villains... I guess? (maybe there's a better explanation for this one)
  • Dormammu & Firebrand - demonic beings
  • Gamora & Strider Hiryu - space ninjas & Knowmoon connection
  • Hawkeye & Dante - weapon specialist showoffs
  • Hulk & Ryu - transform when angry
  • Iron Man & Spencer - artificial body parts
  • Nova & Zero - cocky space heroes
  • Rocket Raccoon & X - space heroes with lots of weapons
  • Ultron & Sigma - robots who hate humanity
With the rumored characters and my own DLC predictions, I'd have the remaining pairings as:
  • Black Panther & Hunter - expert trackers & Valkanda connection
  • Loki (DLC) & Morrigan - illusion casting & astral magic
  • Spider-Man & Frank West - wisecracking photographers
  • Thanos & Gill (DLC) - godlike leaders, Infinity Stones & Illuminati gems
  • Thor & Arthur - wear armor, speak Old English & wield enchanted weapons
  • Venom & Haggar - big powerhouses & New Metro City connection
  • Ghost Rider & Lady (DLC) - demon hunters
  • Green Goblin (DLC) & Jedah - flying demon-inspired villains
I don't think the pairings are perfect, but Capcom might have forced some of them to have certain characters revealed by certain dates.

If my predictions are accurate (and I'm sure they won't be!), Firebrand, Dormammu, Jedah (explaining the weird Evo reveal), and Green Goblin (explaining the Comic-Con tease) will be officially revealed within the next week before their respective issues are released.

If you're wondering why I went with Gill as the final Capcom DLC character:
  • Season 1 parity with Mega Man (2 heroes and a villain), which are the 2 front and center Capcom franchises in the game
  • Gill just barely missed the cut for UMvC3
  • Illuminati gems are superficially similar to the Infinity Stones, and Gill seems like a good fit for the game, especially with the Soul Stone's purported resurrection ability

The complain about re-using assets is the fact that we are getting LESS characters...If they are reusing assets means they aren't getting less work, so they can focus on NEW assets.

At least thats the way i see it

How the heck do we not have Rashid in this? He's practically made to be hyper'd, just like C.Viper.

Man how I wish the 2017 DLC newcomers were in the main game. The game just seems so barren of new characters with just the 6. (8 if you count first conversions to 3D from Venom and Thanos this is of course assuming this roster is correct)

Sure it is. I was getting massive mileage out of doing invulnerable uppercuts into tag, or using random special move into tag, and keeping all of it super safe.

You know who also would work vs. Thanos?

On the idea of Venom, is there any chance he'd turn out being either Agent Venom of Space Knight Venom? Would the possibility ruin anything for anyone? Or would that be just as cool as having Classic Venom?

Personally, I really like the Space Knight design, at least. And it would give some GotG tie-in potential.

So at this point do we believe that Gems are a good replacement for assists? Is team composition feeling like its point/point/assist like mvc2?

It feels like they're a good replacement to utility assist, I'd say. Like if all you wanted from the assist is to give your point a single needed ability (OTG, Wallbounce, a projectile, etc), then this seems a much better way to do that. It also indirectly seems to have let Capcom let the characters do more on their own, since they're not offloading a set of useful abilities onto a 3rd character anymore.

And then Infinity storm is basically "Make your own X Factor", so that's a nice way to update and shift about that particular system, too.

Yes, Dr. Strange is looking just like I wanted him too...gameplay wise. I just don't like the boots man...and the gloves, give him the gloves.

Honestly, I quite dislike the look of Strange's tights in MvC3. It's appropriately superhero-like, sure, but it didn't carry the idea of an older, wise "magician" very well. Workman's boots might feel a bit off too (wouldn't loafers be better?), but I feel the look is more respectful than before.

Plus Liam O'brien voicing him is a net win for me, even if it's not what I expect for Strange. HIs gravely, "I've seen some things..." inflections always add something to his characters, and THAT I think fits the Doctor's position in this roster very well.

I know he gonna be good once the monsters get their hands on him. Yeah, its definitely going to be about matchups this time around because X was looking kinda hopeless against him.

Ultron managed to trade with Zero st.hp(?) @2:50 with jab was interesting in the video below.

Every character except for maybe Ultron looked helpless against Zero.

But this is day -60 stuff, Zero players would have a natural edge anyway since they know how to play the character (ie. charge Busters) versus people playing new characters. Even the previous Marvel 3 characters like Thor and Spider Man are new for people since they weren't that commonly played.

Only reason X was looking helpless is because no one is using sonic slicer xx boomerang or frost shield or rising fire. Sonic Slicer is fine be the same of a looot of people's existences with the angle it covers, the ability to cancel it, the ricochet and the fast recovery.

Zero is probably still better but it shouldn't look that free.

Y'all remember this interview with Mike Evans? Simpler times.

Bits of note on a reread about characters:
GC: Yeah, actually let’s do that. But some basic questions you might be able to allude to… I’m sure you won’t say how many characters there are going to be in total, but are we looking at a similar figure to the last game? [Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 launched with 36 characters – GC]

ME: We can’t say at this time, but we do have 14 characters announced today and then obviously until September 19th we still have a lot of time. We have many more announcements coming. But I can’t say about the final number.

GC: So you’re not ruling out it being disappointingly low? [laughs]

ME: [laughs] It won’t be disappointing!
So much for that.
GC: When this was first announced some fans theorised that the Marvel characters would only include those that Marvel has the cinematic rights to. That is the case so far, but is that going to be true for the whole game?

ME: No…

GC: It’s nothing to be ashamed of, if it’s all down to the lawyers.

ME: Totally, totally. No, but it’s not. And if Marvel were here they would answer as I’m going to. It’s not based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We take a lot of inspiration from the cinematic universe, but the game is a completely original universe.
🤔
GC: So you could have the Fantastic Four or X-Men in the game, if you wanted them?

ME: I can’t say about that one.

GC: You can’t say if you could?

ME: I… can’t answer that question.

GC: You can’t say if you could say if you could?

ME: Exactly! [laughs]

GC: [conspiratorially] You can have Doctor Doom though, surely?

ME: Oh, ah… I would say stay excited. We have many announcements coming. But you’re not the first to ask that one!

Jawmucher's dreams once lived:
GC: I just said I was a bigger DC fan. But I do really like Squirrel Girl, it’s a very funny comic book. Alright now, just quickly. These are Capcom characters I noticed a lot of other people asking for, that I’d also be really keen on: Regina or anyone from Dino Crisis?

PR woman: You’re always asking me for more Dino Crisis!

ME: Dinosaurs are cool!

GC: Okay, so Dino Crisis is definitely in it?

ME: [laughs – followed by elongated conversation on how to pronounce Regina, ending in no consensus]

These bits make me wonder:
GC: Asura? I always worry I’m not pronouncing that right, the big guy with the six arms.

ME: There are no announcements at this time regarding Asura’s Wrath. [laughs]

GC: I tell you what, can you just tell me whether someone else has mentioned him up until this point? That would actually be a useful indicator.

ME: Okay, I’ve heard both of those before. Because I spent a good two months going through YouTube videos to see what people were interested in.

GC: Breath Of Fire?

ME: I’ve heard of this game. Ryu is in the game, I can confirm.

GC: Uh huh. You won’t be laughing when you see this game’s Metacritic score. [Ryu is also the name of a major character in Breath Of Fire – GC]

ME: [laughs]

GC: Anyone from Onimusha?

ME: We haven’t heard that one, no.

GC: Really? That surprises me. Okay, the Marvel side quickly: Namor?

ME: Is that a DC character?

GC: No, he’s like the Marvel version of Aquaman, I forget his title… the Sub-Mariner!

ME: Oh yeah, the Sub-Mariner. I do know him.

GC: Ms. Marvel?

ME: Kamala Khan with the stretchy limbs, like Dhalsim. I’m a big fan of the comics, fantastic.

GC: [mutters] She’s not as good as Squirrel Girl.

ME: [laughs]

GC: Okay, we’ll just finish on Doctor Octopus, because I know he was one that almost made it into Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. So, this would be the perfect chance to add him.

ME: I cannot speak to this. But I hear he does have six arms.

GC: Err… yes, I guess. Wait, is that a clue about pairing him with Asura?

ME: …

GC: Okay, thanks very much. You’ve been a great sport.

ME: No problem, that was really fun.

GC: So is the roster set in stone now?

ME: Yeah, the roster is set in stone now.

GC: And the roster for the DLC as well?

ME: Uh-hum.

GC: So for these characters you’re obviously not putting in there’s almost no hope?

ME: [laughs] Well, we love to hear your feedback! [laughs]

There's also a fairly concise discussion on accessibility that basically leads nowhere because they ignore the interviewer's actual question about there being a real tutorial.

Gill being in MvC:I before SFV would be some shit. Would be like seeing Sodom or Q in MVC:I.

Gill's regular moveset fits in Marvel really well without any adjustments, though. He's got a full screen, invincible super that does crazy chip and a ressurection super. If Soul brings back people like theorized then he's less likely.

A part does feel like they perhaps (Unlike in the past). Have a DLC roadmap already worked out.

Question however being if the "roadmap" that they have worked out isn't looking eerily familiar to a certain other game where Capcom got ridiculed to hell over. The question I propose is that should the cinematic story mode be playable day one (as if that should be brought up to question, right?) and certain... DLC characters are indeed going to be in the game, is that going to mean that Capcom will run into the same problem as SFxTK? Or will the story mode be reflective of like SFV where while the characters are in the game, they aren't "fully complete" yet? That's the main concern that I have after seeing Black Panther in the story trailer and how it does make it look like you will indeed get to fight him (whereas previously Sigma was hooking it up with Ultron in an unknown location, thus would justify why you would never fight him since he already fused with Ultron).

Could be overthinking it, but if we are going to run into the "On Disk" issue again, you know that some will never let Capcom hear the end of it. ((Mind you that I could be overthinking a touch and won't be afraid to admit I was wrong if it turns out that I was incorrect... Which I hope I am...))

Those interviews seem to confirm to me that Doc Ock and Asura are in this Season Pass. They're the only characters he mentions with even an ounce of certainty. They definitely seem to have been hinted.

Yeah, having Gill without Resurrection is like having Dmitri without Midnight Bliss. May as well not have them in the game at that point.

Yeah, Gill, like Phoenix, steps on the Soul Stone too much.

Plus they teased him in SFV's story mode and it'd be weird for him to show up in MvC:I first.

Producer of game says game he's producing will not be disappointing. Of course they'll say what we want to hear in interviews. Not even upset about that lol.

If one of the seasons of DLC is indeed X-Men vs Street Fighter themed, I can 100% see the Capcom side of that pack being Akuma, C. Viper -- those two of course partially recycled from MVC3 - and then Rashid, all new.

I wouldn't consider Gill's story mode cameo a teaser for SFV DLC -- it's more like a teaser for the next chapter in the story (SFIII), like a movie's post-credits sequence.

I don't know how Capcom made Marvel 3 with 36 built from scratch characters on a new engine, most of which were never in a Marvel game before.

I guess TvC helped but there is still not a lot of crossover from that game.

And people still gave Marvel 3 shit for its roster yet the effort put into that was miles ahead of Infinite.

Is 32 really that disappointing? 38 by the end of the year, no less.
To be fair, it's probably going to be 34 on the base roster, if everything pans out how I think it will. The disappointment really stems from the character choices, and the fact 26 of those are direct from the last game with some relatively minor reworking. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Also it's 38 by the end of the year if you pay 30 extra dollars (or regional equivalent) sight unseen.

I get irate every time I see someone say this.

It isn't just 32 characters. It's 32 characters with all but 6 of them being a copy/paste job from UMvC3.

Wouldn't that be 8?
X
Captain Marvel
Ultron
Thanos
Jedah
Venom
Monster Hunter
Gamora

and possibly Ant-Man/Winter Soldier and two Capcom guys

The returning character may be 95% copy paste, but because of their changes and the system as a whole, everyone I tried felt completely fresh.
