Nu-metal that didn't suck?

The Linkin Park guy passing away recently led me down a path of revisiting that shitty genre my friends and I were all into in high school. Turns out the internet is right and almost everything I've relistened to is garbage with the exception of Slipknot's first 2 albums (haven't listened past there). Yeah the lyrics are awful but at least its fun to listen to and amps me up - (sic) was a surprise in how much I enjoyed it.

Can you guys make a case for any other nu-metal bands still worth listening to?

Aside from Slipknot I've tried the following who were on varying degrees of bad:
Linkin Park
Limp Bizkit
Mudvayne

First three Korn albums are alright, imo.

Deftones is still amazing but they've never really been nu-metal, apart from maybe the first album.

I'd say deftones, but as they themself stated, they really aren't in that genre despite being lumped there by the press.

Nu-Metal was fucking terrible.

Often see Deftones called 'nu-metal', and they're ace. If SOAD count too, then them also. Otherwise the genre didn't offer much, to my knowledge and tastes.

Loved Killswitch Engage back in the day

Killswitch are great but I wouldn't say they're nu-metal. There's a bunch of bands that came up in that era that got lumped into the genre (SOAD being another one) that have stood the test of time, but nu-metal as a genre really has aged terribly.

bad gameplay lol
Mushroomhead's early, EARLY stuff (like "local band from Cleveland" stuff) is really good. Especially the album "Superbuick".

Everything Mudvayne has put out has been top shelf stuff. Sure, their last 2 albums were more radio friendly but they were still great.

Hellyeah is frontman Chad Grey's new baby and its pretty good as well, with Blood For Blood being the standout. The song "Hush" is about child abuse. If you have been a victim or know someone who jas, it is a very powerful song.

Thats what so stupid about the term nobody claimed they were part of it. It painted with to broad a brush. System of a Down, Deftones, Korn, Limp Biscuit, Linkin Park, Slipknot, Static X etc..... were all called Nu Metal at some point and the majority if asked would claim they weren't Nu Metal

I understand where you are coming from but there are decent bands - Korn, Soulfly, SOAD are all good. I'd even add in Machine Head

Now granted, I don't listen to them much anymore - I think I don't have the mindset to listen to them these days, same as some of the wilder electronic stuff I listened to. That's why I'll always champion the melodic/hardcore punk era from 80s to mid 2000s as there is still some excellent song writing in there that can be enjoyed outside of the teen rebel anti authority side of things

I about spit out my coffee when I saw this. Killswitch was part of NWOAHM aka the new wave of American heavy metal. That movement is now over but it has it's group of legacy acts. Most notable are Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God, Mastodon. It included tons of other bands like Shadows Fall, Unearth, As I Lay Dying, Chimaira, and so on.

But not nu-metal......at all.

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
I'd honestly rather listen to Limp Bizkit than SOAD.

Style wise they are quite different. SOAD leaned into metal. Bizcuit had just as many tracks that leaned into the beat sorta like Linkin Park except LP had more of an electronic sound due to the keys and dj arrangements.
