Heck yeah it was!

Still, it would have been nice if it had met all of its stretch goals. Oh well, maybe one day they'll just say whatever and add those missing goals into the game using their own funds.

Which reminds me that I should be getting news about the backer rewards for Half-Genie Hero in August.

I haven't been keeping up with post-launch support. I need to go take a look at their twitter.

While I feel bad for the backers of this embarrassing Kickstarter effort, I feel far more sympathy for the damage this disaster has inflicted on up and coming people who no longer have as vibrant a platform on which to try and make their ideas into a full product. It would be bad enough if this was just mismanagement, but nowhere has it come accross that the team even gives a shit or feels like backers are entitled to more than the absolute stingiest definition of the least they can reasonably get away with.

To have such an icon in the industry show such little regard for anyone involved, while at the same time kneecapping potential up and comers isn't just a sign of poor management or budgeting, it actually says a lot about the ethics and character of the people running it.

Just a quick look at any thread covering this game in the last few years is evidence enough of how many people have been burned by this and don't feel confident backing something in the future because of it.

They seem to be covered by the text in the kickstarter, that the game isn't included in the box. But it's still fitting for this kickstarter, that they aren't doing what pretty much every other kickstarter managed to do.

Oh, except the Carmageddon kickstarter, that seems to have just decided that they won't send out the physical rewards at all. Because no comment.

Oh yeah, that train is still not done crashing.

Some backers of the physical GAME BOX edition of Mighty No.9 started receiving their reward and...

It's just a box. An empty box.

And a manual.

And you have to assemble the box yourself.

To be fair, in terms of box alone, I'm pretty sure Shovel Knight was the same.

And the manual doesn't fix in the box.

Now that's downright foolish, though.

Yeah, I don't care who is making it or what the game is. I haven't kickstarted anything since MN9 and I won't do it ever again. Sorry to everyone else that Inafune ruined that.

It is hard to believe they could mess things up this badly unintentionally.

The whole kickstarter debacle reeked of incompetence mixed with a little bit of "fuck you."

MN9 and Bloodstained don't understand that 2.5D doesn't have to be ugly and cheap looking.

Agreed a good recent nice lookin 2.5D example would be Samus Returns and that's on a freakin 3DS. I backed Bloodstained but i am slightly worried still, demo i played last year looked fine enough graphics wise tho still not amazing but fine enough.

That does seem to be the case, doesn't it?
MN9 and Bloodstained don't understand that 2.5D doesn't have to be ugly and cheap looking.
They should both have gone for a pixel art look or somefin like Skullgirls/Indivisible instead of the awful awful awful 2.5 or whatever look they chose for both games.

The thread title is misleading, no? They never promised a physical version of the game. The kickstarter page clearly said it's a physical box plus manual and they deliver exactly that. The only fucked up thing is that the manual doesn't fit the box and how long it took for them to finally ship it.

A flat-pack box I can understand but not even being able to put the manual inside the box is a joke. Capcom must be laughing at this

The box being shipped flat doesn't sound like such a bad idea. Half of them would be crushed beyond all saving otherwise. The rest of all this is pretty hilarious though.

While true, why the hell would anyone want an empty box with no game? Like, what's the point?

The problem is money does not equal competence. I have worked on very well funded projects which failed spectacularly because of bad senior management, inept employees, poor project management, bad technical decisions, infighting, etc. I have also worked on teams which succeeded with relatively small budgets.

Basically, well funded projects have a lot more options than regular projects but it doesn't mean that the project's leaders will make wise decisions or won't spend the money on the wrong things. For example, Daikatana (http://www.ign.com/games/daikatana/ps-2040) was lavishly funded (for a 1997-2000 game) and it was probably a terrible game (I didn't play it but it was universally panned).

To display it on your shelf, it's a plain old collector's item. Empty classic boxes aren't uncommon on Kickstarter and always popular. Tbh, I think a lot of people don't realize how silly an empty box actually is until the fish it out of their mailbox.

Those backers also got a code. The box is a display piece.

It was probably inspired by the Mega Man 9 press kit, which a lot of fans were clamoring for at the time. That didn't come with a physical game either, but everyone wanted it (the cartridge-looking thing was a case for a CD of press materials).

Don't forget the USB tier/addon, that's supposed to get you a usb stick shaped like a cart that has a copy of the game on it.

Unfortunately, that's what I'm waiting for in terms of reward, and we'll see if that ever happens. :p

Seems like a clickbait thread, no?

Either that or OP didn't realize what the KS reward was.

The only ridiculous thing is how long it took them to send it out, and the manual not fitting.

My limited edition of A Link Between Worlds (Game exclusive here in the UK I think) was sent similar to this!

It had a delivery box which contained the game, the little chest gimmick thing, and a flattened out cardboard box that Game never bothered to assemble. Didn't bother me as such, just struck me as funny. Everything was just laid on top of the flattened box and sent in a bigger box.

Got my box last night. I saw it and laughed. I've been done with this game for a year, worst $60 I've ever spent.

Yeah, im never trusting inafune again until he proves himself again. What an embarassment.

Wonder what becomes of Red Ash with Level-5 owning Comcept now

The anime for Red Ash was interesting and a Legends styled game would be amazing....but he also gave us MN9 so yeah he has a lot to prove

How to ruin oneself's reputation in one Kickstarter.

Heh. I should make a book out of this. Between that and Project Phoenix, there are the materials necessary to write a masterpiece.

I expected the box to be flat otherwise it would be crushed in shipping for many, but how the FUCK did they not get the dimensions of the manual correct to be able to fit it inside the box?

Wasn't it Fangamer that was doing the physical rewards?
