PS4 is a beast. I can't even imagine what happens when this thing hits 199 or less with bundles normally.

That's a great result, that I doubt many would predict during the first few months of the PS4 on the Japanese market.

To five more!

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Congrats. Hope it sells a bunch more and gets more Japanese developers get on board.

Is it amazing?
Seems lackluster to me despite all the Japanese only/centric games released for the system.
It's been out for about 3 1/2 years there and with a population of 126-127mill, 55m+ for the rest of the world then.

Well, it's not really a "beast" in japan. ;)
But it's doing well now for a home console.

Hopefully it'll have some decent legs until PS5 release even when Switch is starting to get more multiplatform games.

For a country that couldn't give a shit about traditional consoles anymore? I would say it's pretty good.

It's not really good. Decent at best. It's selling on par with PS3 despite having the best possible support.

Nice. Looks like it's doing decent. Especially since home consoles have it so hard there compared to portables. Looks like they've gotten some nice payoff from finally getting that noticeable influx of Japanese titles in this last year or so with that nice bump in the graph getting back to PS3 levels.

It is far from amazing, I don't even consider it good. But it's better than expected based on its poor launch. Software sales are also decent so while it isn't the savior that people expected it did well enough to make 3rd paties happy.

In a market where console gaming seems to be being drastically replaced by handheld/mobile gaming, especially comparing 2006, its good to keep on the same trend line. Question is, what does the future hold? Can it be clawed back?

Yeah my point exactly, which doesn't bode well for PS5 and Sony was right to launch PS4 in Japan about 6 months later.
I'm all for more sales and/or their "achievements", just not excited as others are for this milestone.

Hardware sales does seem to have ramped up, from 18k to 25k to now 30k weekly, DQXI might have that effect though PS4 Pro also went up in units sold.
We'll see if it keeps the momentum up, one thing is for sure they got a lot of games catered for just that market.

Decent is where I would peg it too. Still, system seems to have a good chunk of life left and they have wiggle room on the price still. It's solid though obviously last gen, current gen and Switch make it clear portables are the go to in Japan.

huh? i don't get this graph, please explain it.

These are the first 52 weeks for several systems. The horizontal axis shows the weeks, the vertical axis shows the number of units sold for different systems. It includes PS4, Switch, 3DS, PS Vita and Wii U (each has a different colour, shown at the side of the graph).

(Switch LTD numbers are 1.2 million if that was what you wanted to know)

Those Killzone parties full of beautiful Japanese people are legit.

lol huh? What am I missing here?I need to know

Reached right around the same time as PS3. Decent all things considered. System has had pretty good performance this year.

Thanks for this I was wondering how well it was doing in comparison to PS3.
I agree it's good performance due to Japan's growing inclination to handhelds or mobile stuff.

Here's to more Japanese software!

Edit: oops didn't read the graph right, tracking PS3 sales too haha

In line with PS3, which is not bad nor good.
Software though...

Still better overall than expected at first, wonder how long this one will last, since I really doubt it'll go up to PS3 LTD numbers (Japan only before someone jumps on that).

Phone reception is more important to me than human rights
Tracking ahead of PS3 in both software and hardware too.

In Japan, right?

In a place where home consoles are like a dying breed right?

But to some....this isnt amazing...

Sometimes I do wonder whats the criteria for something to be considered good for some folks.

While Japanese sales aren't good at least it's on par with the PS3. Had sales shown the market dwindle even further then there would be major concern. It'll be interesting to see if PS4 can outsell the PS3 by end of the generation considering it has a better lineup in japan.

Hopefully someone finds a way to spark sales in Japan again. There's a lot of untapped market there.

Good numbers...I'm not sure console gaming will ever be like PS2 days in Japan. If Sony wants to win the software battle, they likely need a portable console.
