The World Ends With You 10th Anniversary

This is my favorite game of all time. I played it at a time in my life when I was extremely insecure and struggling to find myself (well, more than I am right now anyway) and it just clicked for me. The art, the music, the battle system, the CHARACTERS. Just everything about it spoke to me in some way. The story is surprisingly poignant and emotionally resonant. The gameplay and setting fit together so well. I love it so much.

It still pains me that we got the sequel tease in the mobile game and then silence after that. If a sequel is ever released, I would play it on whatever platform it is released on. It would be a literal system seller for me. Well maybe not that far, I would at least see if the reviews are good because I don't trust Square Enix to necessarily do the first game justice. But I just want to emphasize how good this game is and how important it was and is to me. If you have a DS and haven't played this game yet, what are you doing? Yes the battle system takes some getting used to but it's an incredible game. The mobile port loses something through its revised combat. Play the game the way it was meant to be played.

Plus Tin Pin Slammer is such a good minigame and I had a lot of fun with that. My only issue with the game is certain elements of pin evolution. It's annoying to me that you need to use the internet component to evolve pins certain ways and it never really worked for me.

Love TWEWY. I was going through a two year hiatus from games and this was the game that broke me out of it. I bought it on a whim based on the boxart and I'm so glad I did. <3

An all-time great for the genre and one of the 00s best offerings. I don't think we'll ever see another game like it, even if we do get a sequel (which would likely end up on the Switch).

One of the worst games I ever played. Main character was a douche and I just randomly scribbled on the touchscreen and won every battle til the point I decided it wasn't worth my time.

Honest question: Did you play past the first three days?

I learned about this game from X-Play when G4 was still a thing and ended up playing so much I got 100% with all the stars too. Then I erased my save to do it again. I wish this got an anime, that would have been cool to watch.

this game was one heck of a ride. They needa make it available somehow

how does ios/android version stack up? How does the gameplay even work, the ds version used top and bottom screens?

I put a really quick explanation in the OP. Partner characters are basically a pin.

I just watched sone gameplay of the ios port and holy shit that looks pathetic.

Please anyone who wants to play it go for the DS version, the game looks better and has some neat new tracks on the ios version but the gameplay is FUCKED

Definitely one of my favorite ds game, if not the best.

Shame on Square for abandoning the franchise.

Still extremely bitter from the sequel teaser that never happened :(

There has never been a clearer Game of the Console than this was for me and the DS. I've long given up on SE revisiting the IP, but good on OP for doing this thread.

I absolutely enjoyed the hell out of this game, even replayed it a couple times. The battle system (DS version) might come off a bit strange at first, but once it clicks with you, it's a total joy. The pins are so much fun to use! Great characters, very enjoyable story (especially as I went into this one completely blind), fun to explore secondary systems like with eating and clothing/etc., a really good mini-game, and even if it seems small at first a very cool world to explore. Would recommend this to anyone looking for a stylish action RPG with some depth and a fantastic soundtrack.

And it might be the best use of the dual/touch screen configuration that I've ever played.

Why they tormenting us

Is tracking down an old cart the ONLY way to play this? It never showed up on Wii U VC or anywhere else?

Also... Why don't we have DS games available to download digitally to the 3DS since it can play them natively? Is that a dumb question?

Anyway... The only option on Amazon is to buy this thing new for $20. I was rather hoping I could find it cheaper than that. Maybe I'll go see if Gamestop has a used copy for cheaper.

$20 for a new copy is a freaking steal. Do the right thing.

I remember the frustration of fans when a countdown appeared, and it turned out to be the mobile version.

I have to give credit to Kingdom Hearts 3D, since that was my introduction to the characters. I bought the game on DS afterwards and loved it.

Tin Pin Slammer tho. That shit was addicting.

Why couldn't Smash Bros 3DS just copy Tin Pin Slammer? Their buttons controlled version was weak.

TWEWY was easily my favorite RPG from last gen. I bought the game when it first launched and enjoyed every second of it. I'm still holding out hope we get another sequel someday.

This is the only Squenix series I ever got into and of course it's the only one without a gorillion sequels.

RIP in peace, TWEWY

By all accounts I should really love this game, but I tried to play it when it first came out and the main character annoyed me so much I shelved it permanently. Does he ever pull his head out of his ass? If there's light at the end of the emo tunnel, I'll give it another shot.

Yes, most RPGs come with character development.

One of my favorite games of all time. As a pre-teenager at the time, I related a lot with Neku, especially the snarky side of him. His interactions with each of his partners are so entertaining, I love it.
And that Another Day--pure perfection.
I spent so much damn time on the game, replaying everything, but I never managed to get that final secret report. Damn you Panthera Caaaantusss!

Damn. I can't even imagine...

What's the best way to support the game and franchise? Buying it new from Amazon third party? It's used on Gamestop but literally the same price and sold out on Squares website. For some reason I forgot the 3ds can play DS games!

The lead in to
week two
was one of the best storytelling bits in gaming I can think of. Starting to see actual bits of human emotion leaking through in Neku's panic, and then his complete inability to handle Joshua.

Man I should replay the game again...

Best game ever released on DS and best game ever released on iOS and android. It's a damn shame we haven't ever received a sequel. If the original works on the new iOS I will immediately rebuy for the $20 it goes for.

Played it when it came out and loved it. The touch controls take a bit to get used to but it's pretty good after that bump. And just a few minutes ago I stopped after playing it again for the first time after I bought a copy about a year or two ago. It still holds up really well.
I do hope we get a sequel (for the Switch). I also wonder if it'll make an appearance in KH3. Its inclusion in DDD felt so half assed.

Honestly talking about it online is the best way to support this IP. Share your love of it to the world.

Buy it on Amazon if you don't own a copy, if you already do, just spread the good word.

You know what would actually be pretty fun? A Tin Pin Slammer mobile game. They could even make it a gacha game and make some good money on it

Pretty sure this game cured me of my teenage emo tendencies. One of the best.

How's the Android version for this game. Playable or full of bugs?

It's a decent experience of the game (the remix soundtrack isn't as bad as is made out to be) but you lose a lot of the original's uniqueness with the dual screen implementation throughout the game and in the battle system.

Liked the game a lot, though it took me a couple of re-starts to "get it" on the battles. Was a bit difficult towards the end, but I made the effort to beat the game :) Sad it never got a sequel.

A bit off topic, but the DS had some amazing games.

I somehow never got around to finishing this one. I think I got annoyed at the gimmicks needed to evolve pins (though it was a cool idea). Still have my cart if I ever get back to it, although I'd need to watch a LP to get a refresher.

Hm, this is one of the few games that I never finished. Nope'd out in the third week since it got way too repetitive and was too easy (I think I even cranked it up to maximum difficulty to get better rewards?).
