Slightly OT, but is there a way to mute the opposing team by default in OW? I remember looking for it a while back and not finding it. HotS does this (it's actually permanent with no option to turn off) and I find it to be pretty good. EDIT: There's really no reason to ever need to talk to your opponents. I don't think we're at a place where genuine "ggs" mean anything at all.

Being anonymous makes ppl act very, very strange.
And its a thin line between being an asshole and trash talking.
I like that eSports have ppl live all in the same room, forces you to be social, have some type of respect. Hopefully.
Being a Redskins fan I can get into a trash talking match with strangers over the Cowboys, lol. I know how to keep my cool. But I have seen it get very heated with some ppl, like wanting to say ok fellas, thats enough....
It's definitely a fine line. Even with sports, you still have a point of reference and common ground between teams / divisions / leagues, so socially you can engage in some fun trash talk. Even then, the trash talk is still disconnected from you personally because they're typically talking about the team more so than you.
In video games, there's almost no point of reference, especially in an age where so many games play so closely to one another. Your point of reference is that you both own that console and that game, and that you point and shoot at people. You're directly talking trash to someone on a more personal level without the disconnect of another entity (in the case of sports, whatever team you're a fan of).
The only person I know who talks like an anonymous gamer online in real life wears fingerless gloves all the time, only has black tank tops for shirts, is massively dysfunctional, and is in jail for creeping in people's backyards and stealing shit.

Playing on EU servers, I have to say I have barely encountered any flaming or trolling or harassing. And I've been playing since open beta. Granted, most matches, including competetive, don't have any voice chat going on anyway, but even the text chat ist fine most of the time. At worst, people might get a bit salty when losing or bring out the "ggez". I wonder if it's that much different on NA servers or if I've just been very lucky so far.
