Man, Sierra was just plain mean spirited back in the day. Even lighthearted games like Larry were low key savage.
I loved, *loved* the gibbing and simple strategy of Myth and Myth 2. Alas, those games have not aged well at all
I had a lot of fun with that game editor. The object-oriented approach for projectiles let you make things like a thrown corpse that exploded into 10 different stages of nested doom.

Can't comment on The Immortal, and maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but god no phantasmagoria has not held up well. Most of it is extremely dull. It doesn't "pick up" until the last act, which is where most of the content in this thread come from (in particular, a finicky, frustrating chase sequence at the very end that's exciting the first one or two times and dreadful soon after - a real argument for why failstates don't always work well with horror). Everything until then is plodding around the house or town until the next cheesy cutscene pops up and eventually you get to proceed to the next day. I've got a soft spot for campy shit, but Phantasmagoria's just... dull to me. If you're curious, watch or read a let's play. It's not worth spending much time on.
On the other hand? Phantasmagoria 2's a riot. It's atrocious in all the best ways.

Played a handful of these back in the day (and still replay Quest for Glory)....had heard all about Phantasmagoria but hadn't seen just how brutal it was. Puts Argento to shame!

Soldier of Fortune. Raven's GHOUL system made even small wounds seem horrifying. Shoot a thug in the groin and it explodes in blood and the thug falls over screaming in pain clutching his crotch. Or shoot someone in the stomach and their intestines fall out in front of as they slump over.
Or slash an arm, leg or side of the face and see the gash open but the baddie fight on. Then turn their head to mist with a shotgun blast

The N64 version is much less pixelated, but the brightness is way too low. Neither version looks great today, but the style and atmosphere make up for alot.
I think I remember the insta slice cheat as well. And unlimited dynamite makes everything better.

This is actually Eternal Champions: Challenge from the Darkside on Sega CD. The sequel had way more stage death animations called Overkills. Check this video out for some CRAZY death animations. Seriously, this shit is bonkers.
Another game I remember was an arcade light gun game called Zombie Raid from Sammy in 1995 -- you used a mounted pump-action shotgun. The gore was colorful and over the top and I remember it being very disturbing/intriguing for my young mind.
I particularly remember the attract mode. It's definitely worth a watch.

It seems like Bloodsucking Freaks (1976) and Vincent Price's Theater of Blood (1973) were an inspiration to Phantasmagoria.
I used a cheat code that removed the constantly depleting health. Without it, I wouldn't have been able to play the game though.

Braindead 13 had some fantastic animation, actually much better than what I'm seeing in these gifs. Worth seeking out.
Same as its developer in its case, ReadySoft. Had team members who also worked on Dragon's Lair and Space Ace among its staff. Lost track of how many times I've played through that game.
Also, fun fact: this game was rated K-A (the old Kids to Adults rating that was later replaced by E for Everyone).
