Persona Community Thread |OT9| SPOILER TAGS OR DIE

I suspect both will be in. The Persona 4 anime was pretty good at maintaining the art style, .

If they for any reason are keeping the animation and style of the Daybreakers OVA , the anime already failed in show off the style of the game itself which is more similar to the Persona 3 movies than Persona 5.

This is a game where literally the screen rips in half like a paper everytime we get a new attack ... will be a shame if the Anime team not put little things like that into it . That love and amount of style that made the game stand out from the others.

At least that teaser make hopeful somehow , using the art book cover which is a literal comic book / manga panel , maybe the anime team understand that the focus they need to put into the anime style.

We will see until they drop real footage.

The animation and style of the Daybreakers was a bit off, yeah. It felt like it lacked finesse and urgency to the animation. I wouldn't say it was like the Persona 3 movies, however. It's clear based upon the fighting scene at the end that they were trying to emulate the style in the opening video. There's things like Ryuji shattering the screen when he summons his Persona, and faux-grain over the image when it gets all stylish.

Really do think the original Sword Art Online (or what is known as Volume 1 now) would have worked as a standalone movie.

I saw Tom's tweets on the subject earlier. I think a big factor in how they handle the material will depend on what timeslot Persona 5 airs at. I don't remember what timeslot Persona 4 aired at (it was on MBS/TBS/CBC, standard network channels), but I do know Code Geass got away with a lot of similar stuff in it's second season, and that was a prime time slot. So I guess we'll see.

In regards to the content itself (ENDGAME P5 SPOILERS)
I'd like to think they wouldn't have to downplay the allegories between Shidou and Abe/LDP, but who knows? I don't think they'd change things too drastically tho.
I don't think things will change too drastically either--the same events will happen--but I wouldn't be surprised if some of the edge was taken off. I doubt it will even be enough of a change for Western fans to notice; I feel like a lot of the finer details of the late-game is already lost in translation, so to speak.

I foresee this is going to be my main issue with the anime as well, the visuals. P3 and P4 had the benefit of being adaptations of PS2 games where the anime can easily make itself more visually interesting, but the same simply can't be said of P5.

Note, I don't think the teaser is going to be representative of the anime, because it's quite typical for such commercials to feature existing artwork or materials as a placeholder.

Or how in the Golden anime they drop a teaser with the most beautiful Yu Narukami i ever seen and in the final product end up looking kinda derpy lel , and even worse than the original P4 anime in some shots.

(Still think they waste all their budget in that teaser and some shots of Marie when she looks beautiful asf compared to the other characters haha).

Thats why maybe not even trailers could sell me this , i be happy until i see an episode in action i guess (next year).

Just saw that the concert is at a reasonable time here which is good. It's a shame I won't be able to watch but I can at least spam refresh on gaf in the hopes some news pops up.

Lucky you.
I'll have to wake up to either nothing or something, which is honestly a bit anticlimactic either way.

Coaching at a summer camp so no fucking way whatsoever to catch it live.

Oh well wake me up if it's for PC

(Can't wake up)
:p

Don't know if it's cool to ask this, but anyone know if there will be a stream of the stream? Not really keen on spending 1500 yen when I've watched similar events with more exciting announcements in the past for free. If I have to, so be it.

My understanding is that any restreams of paid Nico events get shut down pretty quickly, and the paying Nico subscriber gets banned. Odds are that there won't be many this time around, and what there is might not last the whole show.

That was what happened with the recent NieR concert at least, the only stream that managed to stay up was audio only.

I would expect any announcements to be covered by the free Stalker Club stream too at least.

I think paying for the stream makes sense if you wanna see the concert, but if you're just there for announcements it makes more sense to watch the free stream or even just check atlustube on YouTube after.

In a way, it's cool to get a chance to watch the concert, even if you have to pay. If I remember right, the last couple Persona concerts had no complete stream of the performance.

There was a paid stream of the 2013 concert, and parts of the 2015 Super Live were streamed. None of the smaller ones or the orchestral ones have been streamed, and the orchestra ones haven't even had any sort of home release.

Guess I'll just down the 1500JPY. Thanks, guys. I really enjoyed watching the lives in the past, so I would still like to catch it. Guess I'm waking up at like 3:00am tomorrow morning haha.

Ah, I had forgotten about the 2013 concert. I remember that parts of the 2015 Super Live were streamed, but I also remember how much of it was just backstage stuff with the PSC hosts instead of the music itself.

So I just had one girlfriend come over to make me some coffee while inviting another girlfriend up to my room to enjoy some 'coffee'.

Protag must really be working that max Charm to avoid any trouble there.

Well if there low chance to see the concert or part of it in restream , i suppose i will take Morgana advice and go to sleep (concert stars 3am in my timezone) and get early around 5-6 am to see if something happens besides an awesome live performance.

No other Megaten game has ever Megaten'd me as hard as P5 before, and I don't think I've ever hated an RPG enemy as much as I hate Nebiros and his stupid fucking Brain Jack right now.

So I'm on Palace 8 now and
hey I heard you liked Mementos, well have I got the palace for you!
Like Palace 7 now actually seems good compared to this shit.

I guess you got an easy time against Mot in Nocturne then.

I understand your situation but in my case i really think not even the most unfair situation i deal in P5 compare to the regular bullshit Nocturne feed me all the time i played it haha.

I had a surprisingly easy, bullshit-free time with Nocturne. Zero game overs to Hamaon/Mudoon, no deaths from enemies ambushing you, defeated Matador in my first try, Mot played fair the whole fight (I actually thought he was harder here in P5 lol), never wiped out and lost hours of progress. I think I only had like, 1 or 2 game overs to some bosses relatively early on? It's why I don't find Nocturne hard/frustrating like most other people. Keep in mind I played it on Normal though, but I plan on revisiting it on Hard someday.

That said, besides two wipe-outs to the same freaking enemy, I'm actually really liking
Mementos Depths
. Its eerie atmosphere reminds me a lot of Nocturne, and as someone who went through some difficulties these past 2 years and just generally displeased with our current system, I can't help but emphatise with the things some NPCs in those jail-thingies say. In therms of themes and social commentary, I've been finding this whole end section quite intriguing and effective. And perhaps it's because I like its aesthetics so much, but I think the dungeon has been cool so far with the exception of those enemies spawning right in front of you and immediately chasing. No clue why they thought that was a good idea.

I should be able to finish the game tomorrow, and I'm already sad that I won't have P5 to look forward to after work anymore. It's been such a huge part of my routine these last couple months.

8 is real short and straightforward though. The single mid save point can be a bit of a hassle, but your team should be wrecking fools at that point. I actually really liked the 8th.

Nocturne is a really fun game , one of my favorite SMT games out there but i dont remember a game i was literally frustrated like i was with Nocturne at times.
You must be very lucky with your run or i was unlucky with mine.

And i played in Normal too , i tried Hard once and when i see the game can actually kill me in "tutorial" fights of all things , i was like NOPE and came back to Normal haha.

That said Persona 5 i dont feel is a hard game , at least by a SMT game kind of hard , but really had shitty situations like the one you point out.

One i can remember happen to me was in the first palace , against a group of 4 Incubus and a spam of Life Drain , all the attacks went directly to Joker , not Ryuji or Morgana the fuckers wanted Joker booty every single turn and after 3-4 attacks nigga was out... not happen to me just once , that happen to me 2-3 times in the same dungeon.

Later in that dungeon had the luck of see a Sucubus group Marin Karin the hell out of my whole party , making me put the controller down and see how my party kill each other.
(Mitsuru should be proud).

Oh man, Nebiros. He was responsible for one of my most memorable moments in the game where Joker and one other member were brainwashed, skipping a mediarahan I desperately needed, and when it was their turn to attack, I would have died 3 times over if it wasn't for 2 teammate rescues and a final guard.

It's just such a waste of a Palace. The aesthetic feels very much like they took some leftover Tartarus textures and called it a day.
And honestly I didn't even want to go down there -- I didn't feel it was the right thing to do -- but when asked for my opinion I was given a "choice" of Yes, Yes, or Yes in different words. The lack of narrative options is one shortcoming I really wish they'd work on.

And hm, I haven't really been wrecking fools. As I mentioned before, I feel kind of underleveled -- I went into 7 at level 61. I think I went into 8 at 64? Some level 75 dude kept appearing that pulled out boss-level moves like Panta Rhei....wiped my party twice right before I reached the 2nd save room. I've managed okay, especially by using status ailments, but going toe to toe with them ends up depleting tons of SP from my healers. This is on Hard.

At least with 7 the aesthetic was nice, but in this one I just can't wait for it to be over.

OK, so P3 is also getting its own dancing game.

PQ2 on 3 DS as expected.

As for P3D's story (spoilers for P3):
MC is in it so I wonder when this takes place. I guess another memory loss at the end is a given
but what I'm really hoping for is that there's no story at all.

Dancing games might not have story modes. Don't think there was anything suggesting they do in the announcement at least.
I don't know how I feel about it. On the one hand it really just doesn't work with these casts anyway, on the other I legitimately enjoyed P4DAN's story and it really set it apart in the genre. Add in that if they skip the story while splitting it into two games then it really will feel like brutal milking.

Two DAN followups is great news.

I'd be okay with this given the quality of the story mode in DAN. If they have cut it though then they need to pad out the number of songs a bit.

Would be better off that way, more content and varied gameplay > boring/cringe story mode.

But considering P4:DAN I highly doubt that's the case, the song selection in P4:DAN was kind of lackluster so I'm hoping 3/5 improve on that.
