Latest Xbox One Update releases to Insiders Today (Fluent Design)

Is this for every block or just one? I had this happen but it eventually stopped.
Every block. No matter what I try to do when "editing" my pins or the Games With Gold (my only two blocks), I get a hard crash to a black screen.

I always report these bugs and complaints directly from my console, by the way.

Just had a quick play this morning, seems like a lot of space on the front as others have said, think this 'home' is the one that needs to be fully customisable, Defo get rid of suggested friends, don't need it, guide is much snappier, much of the navigation is back to one button press of 'b' to home or the guide button to home which is good, not entirely sure yet but it's s good step, just think home needs and option of totallly blank canvas then a click of the menu brings up all available elements that can be pinned to it, fave apps, games, my games, settings even mini achievement art or something.

Are you resetting the Xbox after every black screen or are you able to open the guide? All my inputs were blocked except for the guide so just wondering if the bug you have is worse.

And yeah, every issue I have is being reported on the Xbox.

I'm able to click guide>home and get back to normal. But yeah, that's my only option once I crash to a black screen. Looks like no editing for me....

On the home screen, almost half the bottom screen is a grey block, like on the previous dashboards, so you only see half of your background.

Guide button looks bland with so much grey, especially now that you have stack-able guides (cards in a sense) it just adds MORE grey.

Doesn't look very appealing, it's honestly like the Xbox team has no colour palette.
You could adjust tile opacity before, isn't that the case anymore?

Just watched Jez's video.

I'm fine with the new guide and I assume everything is now two steps in order to improve performance.

But the reduction in pins, the suggested friends being front and centre and the wasted space just seems dumb. Overall I really don't like it.

They also didn't really improve performance of anything outside the guide. Also, the Community section is literally a carbon copy of the PS4 What's On section.

I thought that for the first time when I saw it - and I actually think the PS4's What's On section is a bad bad way to represent that info. I don't know anyone who uses it. I quite liked the community feed before, gave it a social media lite feel.

Does anyone know here that already installed it if HDR is enabled on a HDR capable 4K TV for the new UI on a Xbox One S ????

Yes or No?

I would like it that they give you that option too!

Ooooh. I Like it.
I wish they would bump me up to the Alpha or Beta rings so I can check it out earlier but, alas, I'm stuck in ring 4 with the other plebs for now. =(

I did my fair share of beta testing in the past. I can wait for the full release when it comes later this year!

Also y clever trick to reduce front loading times of the UI by hiding bigger lists of messages or gamertags behind another action so it can load in background! Makes the whole UI faster than the one we have now in those cases!

Edit:
I just saw on twitter that you are now able to move/copy games and apps in bulk. Thats a blessing for those going to use external drives as a migration preparation to Xbox One X. Will save you a lot of time because currently you have to do it game by game, app by app which is annoying.

Ok, first impressions aren't too bad, it's rather fast. Not too fond of stuff popping up everywhere, but it works.
They seem to have finally fixed disambiguation with Cortana, she doesn't ask me whether I want to play Titanfall2 or Titanfall2 when asked. Real ambiguous situations seem ok, although the first time I asked for "Assassin's Creed" she launched AC China for no reason. Second time she correctly offered a list of the seven (!) titles I own in the serie.

Now if they could just add the simple music feature, "I want to listen to the Beatles" (which still starts a web search right now)... It works on my old 8.1 phone, but not on the latest Xbox, how come ! It's one of the main selling points of voice assistants.
Cortana's speed is still hit and miss though. And I'm not sure buffering commands for several seconds is a good idea, sometimes when she's too slow I repeat the order, and then she tries to pause the music three times in a row and complains that she can't. If it was asked five seconds ago, forget it, you missed the train !

I'll give her her chance again for the next few days, but if she can't be responsive enough, back to the old commands it is.

Really hope they will change next to the top where you have your open/launch game. Instead of useless suggested friends etc. Just a tab for LFG for that game, group and achievments. Way more usefull then suggested friends, join now for a game you maybe dont even have and another ad.

Amazing if true. I have 2 external HDDs and I use one as a backup. This will make it much easier for me to copy games between the internal/external hdds.

Woke up this morning to see if the new dash was there. And it was. Weird having to adjust to something new again. Liking it so far. Nice and quick to get around.

Wa a bit meh when I looked at the screenshots yesterday, but actually. it's not bad.
It actually seems to make a bit more sense than the last one.
Nice and fast too

I'm not sure "suggested friends" is what people think it is. Or at least not all the time, in my case it didn't suggest new friends, but offered me to join someone in my friends list who was playing Overwatch. (not that I would do that either, since I barely know my "friends" and never play with them, but it makes sense in the context of the community).

"Shortly after the update's unveiling, Xbox platform Corporate Vice President, Mike Ybarra, took to the company's Mixer live streaming service to showcase the new dashboard update running on an Xbox One X. As a part of a subsequent community Q&A, Ybarra confirmed a light theme is in the works for the Xbox One OS.

Although not available in the public build shipping today, a light variant of the dashboard is in the pipeline, complementing the existing darker color scheme currently seen by all Xbox One users. Despite not providing a precise timeframe for its arrival for Xbox Insiders, the light theme will be publicly shipping as a part of the Fall Creators Update for Xbox One, later this year. For now, Ybarra has assured gamers that it simply "looks awesome" in its current state."

It is true! This is a screenshot that shows the new options. As you can see there are new button for "Select All" "Copy selected" and "Move selected".

Indeed this will make things much easier than now!

Watch the video on the OP, it's pretty much at the beginning. You'll see the home screen and you will see a grey block covering almost half the bottom screen.

Mine is on the most transparent option and it's no way near visible. Definitely need to remove it, it looks horrid and basically blocks half your background.

I don't get why they put it back on... They let us customise our home screen and then go and block almost half the background for no reason.

No reason to thank me as I only copied the screenshot from my twitter feed to put it in here! Courtesy goes to another Xbox owner that posted the stuff on twitter!

I am excited too about this new features as it will makes it easier to manage your storage space with new games that comes with larger sizes due to the higher quality assets come with it on Xbox One X.

Edit:
Another nice addition is that you now can pause or cancel all downloads at once!

Hopefully this'll fix the unresponsiveness of the dashboard. I hate using the Xbox One dashboard since the console has been released and they still didn't manage to fix it. It feels so sluggish.

The responsiveness of the current build is way better than what we had before. You already can see in the new build that they took actions to further enhance the responsiveness by taking away loading tasks from the front and moved it to the background (the reason for lists you have to to an additional step).

But whenever there has to be downloaded something the responsiveness is dependent on your internet connection speed and ping time.

That has to be the reason, I use my Xbox rarely, but when I use it it's downloading something. But it seems weird to me, that whole system ist slowed down by a download. And my internet connection is not that bad (50 Mbit).

I was not particulary talking about downloading games or apps.

I was more talking about downloading assets that has to be shown on your screen like the gamer pictures in your friends lists, the title pictures of your games and apps. All those pics are 1080 by 1080 pixels or even more. Depending how many friends and games and apps you have that can take some time to populate it into your UI.

But if you download a game or app in the background too the download of those assets to be shown on ths UI will be slowed down even further, thats right!

Right, will check this out when I get back home tonight. I'm digging the selection glow already.

I wonder how much customisation MS will allow us for the home screen, can we resize and reposition tiles?

looking forward to you guys posting more screens and impressions :)

Easier to wade through the bullshit and get opinions with experience.

Played with it before dinner, seems like they just moved things around again for the sake of it.

Why do they keep changing it unnecessarily? I was finally just getting use to the current one. :|

All I keep asking for is a completed Achievement section, something for finishing a game, why do they keep ignoring it?! :'(

Watching Jez video as I haven't downloaded the update yet

So if you flick left on the home screen that banner up top is gonna bring up all the suggested friends and other nonsense tiles? Wtf. At least before you could just ignore it if you wanted, now it seems almost impossible without it taking up half the screen

Only just started watching the video but this UI isn't giving me good impressions

Used the UI for about 30 seconds, yep I don't like this UI

Gamerscore leaderboard, friends, messages, notifications... Fuck it, basically everything is harder to get to

Once you open an app or whatever, it's an extra step to get back to the game you were just playing

One step forward two steps back.

Edit: Less pins.... Honestly starting to get the feeling the only good change this update was the select all for moving games to an external

I just played arround with it for 10 minutes and I don't like it at all. The previous one was really really good, but this one is just very bad.

The Home screen is the ugliest it has ever been. Not only that, but it has actually less functionality now, because you can't quickly jump to your Pins, Games and Apps or Downloads anymore. You can't even rearrange your pins immediately, it now requires an extra button press for some reason, just like it requires an extra button press to access your friends list in the Guide. Speaking off the Guide... why is that shit Horizontal now? So ugly...

you should be able to quickly jump to pins if you keep pins as the top block(Actually I'm not even sure, RT seems to jump to both the first block and the last block. Might be a glitch based off where the cursor is?). Just noticed you can't move pins around as easily any more aswell

I was one of the few people to actually defend the UI in all those "Xbox UI is bad" threads but honestly now they'll actually have good points

This might be the worst UI they have put out yet, worse then the launch UI which honestly wasn't even that bad just lacked features.

Jesus, this looks ugly, specially when the backgrounds for the different items don't load properly. Hopefully functionality wise it'll deliver.

Don't like it. It seems way worse than what we have now overall.

I really like the current dash, I would have been much happier for them to refine that with the good bits from fluent rather than dump it, giving us a complete overhaul.

Perhaps it'll grow on me but I can already see my wife cursing when she has to relearn where everything is again.

RT is pretty glitched yeah. For me it either jumps to the first or the last or it just doesn't do anything. Have to press it 10 times, before it registers something.

Honestly, I'd like to return to the previous one and just have the option to have Pins, My Games and Apps and Downloads all in one screen, without having to press anything. I don't care about the ads being on the same screen either, just have it all on one screen, instead of having several categories for every single feature. It's dumb.

Anyone know how to force this update? I am in alpha preview.

Usually a hard reset will do it, but you should also have the option to go to Settings -> System -> Update and select the Update Now thing.

I will use this feature but ultimately I require copy/move for consoles on the same network. I have 1 console upstairs in the lounge room and one downstairs in my office. Being able to copy a game from either console over my network would be a convenient feature, I would use it regularly instead of external storage to handle the same task. Have the OS team mentioned something like this in the road map?
