PM you with Luma3ds 8.0

Thanks, but I get the same error even with 8.0
Tried that firm but it crashed too
That's great to know. Is it going to be like that for all future updates too or do I need to check in each time?
Probably.
I originally used a camera hack + menuhax + homebrew launcher.
I just did the move from A9LH to B9S using the 3ds.guide. I'm on 11.0 fw now, how can I safely update to the latest fw?
You probably need to delete your Themehax exdata, there's instructions for that around.
Then work out which B9S version you're actually on and use the appropriate Luna.
This worked.
Hello, everyone.
I recently busted out my homebrew n3DS...which is just a black PAL n3DS that I used to play SNES games on via Cubic Ninja. It's been ages since I last used it, and just figured out that closing the lid makes everything crash (I was using Cat SFC to play Street Fighter). Is there a trick to being able to use sleep mode without making the system crash?
Also, is Retro Arch still being worked on for 3DS? I think the SNES emulator I have is back from maybe 2015 or something. I played through Donkey Kong Country 1 and 2 back in 2015 with no issues, and Super Street Fighter seems to run okay, except I noticed that there's no voiceover at the start of the fight, e.g. "Round 1, fight".
Any and all tips would be most appreciated.
Thanks.
I never installed any other homebrew outside of using the Cubic Ninja cart, which was really easy. The actual system modding seemed a little too complicated for me, so I didn't bother with CIAs etc.Try updating your Homebrew Loader pack to the most recent version and see if it supports sleep, if it doesn't you'll need a more permanent hack to get the permissions needed (if you've got a dedicated HB Console anyway it may be worth doing anyway. SNES injection CIAs are close to perfect for anything that doesn't use special chips.)

Do you know if it's possible to update the homebrew launcher from the 3DS or do I need to download it and transfer to the memory card?
Thanks.
Thanks. I've been looking here:You need to download it and transfer it to the SD card yeah. The save used by the game should still be fine.
Thanks. I've been looking here:
http://smealum.github.io/3ds/
But this mainly seems to be from the launch when I did it a few years ago, it doesn't show version numbers. Are you able to point me to the best place to download the latest version, please?
Thanks for your help. I downloaded the latest and tried putting the system to sleep, no luck unfortunately. That's the right place. The starter pack is updated fairly regularly, smealum just unfortunately doesn't make it clear when that happens.

I'm considering installing a non ninjhax mod, and have been looking at this link from the OP:
https://3ds.guide/get-started-(new-3ds)
Is the newer stuff more permanent? I'm not worried about getting banned, because I have anotehr n3DS which is my main one. This one is just for homebrew. I guess everyone has moved on grom Ninjhax?
Anyway, the link above...I have 9.0.0, so it says I should install Homebrew Launcher via Soundhax. Do I then need to install Boot9Strap too?
Sorry for all the questions, and thanks again.
You're a long way behind. You need to update to Luma 7.1, move from A9Lhax to B9S , and then update to Luma 8.1. You also need to update your Homebrew Loader stuff (grab the latest zip) and update all Luma Payloads to the 8.1 version.
So i'm going to guess i'm in a similar boat, my system is 11.2.0-35 and was using whatever hack was around during late november/later december/ whatever you could use on those black friday n3ds. So i just need to get the new homebrew channel stuff and put that in the micro sd/ get luma 7.1, read whatever about A9Lhax to B9S and luma 8.1? or do i need to do other shit since its old?
You don't need 7.1 strictly since you should be able to bypass that step but it's probably a good idea to update to the last A9LH compatabile Luma before updating (you only need intermediate Luma versions where B9S / Luma incompatibility occurs). Otherwise that's right.
ETA - It may be Luma 7.0 you need not 7.1 I've forgotten which Luma is the last A9LH one. I think it's 7.0 , 7.1 was first B9S, 8.0 was Rosalina (B9S 1.1), 8.1.1 (B9S 1.2) is current.
Installing the HB Launcher is the first step. Installing B9S and Luma is the second step, to have a permanent CFW.Thanks for your help. I downloaded the latest and tried putting the system to sleep, no luck unfortunately.

Just checked my 3DS and I have 11.3.6-U. Is that easy to modify?
Also, it's using the same NNID as my Switch. Is that a bad idea?
Thanks for this. A few questions:Installing the HB Launcher is the first step. Installing B9S and Luma is the second step, to have a permanent CFW.
For SNES games I suggest using the official Virtual Console emulator
https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-ultimate-snes-vc-injector-for-3ds.453891/
It basically convert a SNES rom into a CIA, then you installed the CIA and have the game right on the 3DS menu.
It works with almost all games, excluding some special chip stuff and some hacked rooms. For those use SNES9X
https://gbatemp.net/threads/snes9x-for-old-3ds.435568/
Which is a more standard emulator. You install its CIA, you run it and you select your rom from SD card.
Thanks for this. A few questions:
- if I just installed the Homebrew launcher via Soundhax, without B9 and Luma, HBL won't remain on the system?
- official SNES emu: if I install this, will I be able to play in stretched screen mode? I confess I've been playing this with via CatSFC (Retroarch). I no some people here will think I'm nuts, but I prefer a full screen experience.
- SNES 9X - is this better than retroarch CatSFC?
- If I install B9 and Luma, will I be able to rip games from my North American carts? Bear in mind my homebrew n3DS is a PAL one.
Thanks again!
Thanks. Going to try it today but I'm really worried about fucking it up, lol.As far as modding, follow this guide: http://3ds.guide
If I can do it and only end up with a black screen once because I misread a step and recovered it instantly, anyone can do it. That guide is really well written, leagues better than a lot of tech tutorials that assume you currently work for Google.Thanks. Going to try it today but I'm really worried about fucking it up, lol.

Good news for people who're on OFW 11.4+ and want CFW, ntrboot (aka magnethax) is out and in the guide, it's likely this entry point is unpatchable short of a hardware revision. Some bad news though it only supports 2 flashcards atm though they are the fairly common Acekard 2i and R4i Gold 3DS RTS.
(I wouldn't recommend rushing out to buy those cards if you have another DS flash card, support for more cards is planned)
Right after I went through all the trouble of system transferring from my girlfriends 3ds last weekend. With the official emulator you can play in 8:7 or 4:3, you can't full-stretch the screen. Snes9x support this, though.- official SNES emu: if I install this, will I be able to play in stretched screen mode? I confess I've been playing this with via CatSFC (Retroarch). Hey, I just recently decided after a few weeks of enviously looking at the Dragon Quest XI Import OT that I wanted to finally play a game in this storied franchise. I just bought Dragon Quest VIII for 3DS after hearing that modding the orchestral music back in is pretty simple. The guide linked in the OP looks pretty straightforward, but one thing that I want to know is if anyone thinks that this will at all stop me from playing Metroid: Samus Returns in September?
I've heard that Luma3DS stays even when the 3DS gets official updates now, but I'm not 100% sure if that's the case. Is it true that after following the guide there is pretty much no way that my 3DS could lose the backdoor and hacks? Thanks in advance.

Nintendo breaking the already installed CFW, or possibility of installing CFW on existing systems given an orderable piece of hardware, is basically impossible due to what basically could be considered hardware bugs. It is not impossible, though considered unlikely, that a new silent revision of the chips fixes those bugs, so hacking a newly bought system could end up being harder.
If Nintendo releases a non-trivial firmware update, you could end up waiting a few days for hacks to get similar updates, or, in case you like living on the edge, removing them altogether. However most of the firmware updates do indeed not interfere with already installed CFW.
my luma updater is not really working, so this sounds dumb, but what file does boot.firm replace to update luma? I forgot
There is a boot.3dsx file, but no boot.firm
It says my luma is 7.0.2, so how do I make sure my b9s are up to date? I don't look at these things for months at a time, so I end up forgetting all of this. Glad you guys are around
