Yeah, that's a solid reprint and especially so with the main commander's Eminence ability.

Eh. I'm always torn about modern Magic art because the sameyness of much of it along with the sorta semi-photo realistic angle, Older Magic art just had a character to it even if I'm not always the biggest fan of an individual piece.

Yo, it's Mairsil! I'm not sure what I think of the card but it's a solid reference.
The Lich seems pretty neat, especially, again, with duping ability.
Someone here called for him in Grixis when we found out it was Grixis Wizards.
But yeah, it's a deep (and awesome) pull.

didn't realize the effect is cumulative at first. You really just want a bunch of super expensive cards with activated abilities then. Could be a sweet commander to be honest.

Ya, we talked about Mairsil being a good choice for this. He was the villain for the whole Ice Age block. This card is depicting how he put Ith in a cage above a phyrexia hole and usurped his place. I'm surprised the card is so mechanically dead on. I hope they do his ring too, but I suppose they would have showed it with him.

Yeah, he doesn't appear in any flavor texts in Ice Age.
My knowledge of the Ice Age story comes from the Comic Book that was put out cocurrent with the set, but Tevesh Staz was the "real" villian in that story for Ice Age

Mairsil had a Lich thing going on, his ring was his phylactery. Lim Dul put his ring on. I don't actually think it was revealed until Alliances though? It might have been a tail end reveal in Ice Age, but in Alliances he possessed Jaya Ballard.

oh right. You can activate each ability once per turn. Still amazing and he's gonna get more powerful each time.
Just play Skithiryx so you can haste him up each time. I'm gushing so much right now, need a couple untap effects too.

He's the most unique and breakable of the commanders revealed so far for sure, Deadeye Navigator inches closer to the ban with this guy.

can he use his abilities in the yard? Then you could just add some reassembling skeleton effects too.
I meant pairing him with Deadeye so each time he flickers he can use all the abilites again.

Does this work? The cards name is Marilsai, The Pretender, not Mirror-Mad Phantasam. It's not a copy of the card, it's the ability to use it's ability.
The eminence ability is a triggered ability. The other ability is an activated ability.
More importantly, if you send her to the command zone, Marsil won't have any of her abilities; he specifically looks at cards in exile.

that's why it works, when it refers to itself it knows it's mairsil not mirror mad phantasm and shuffles itself in but when you reveal the deck there is no card named mirror mad phatasm in the deck so you mill all of it.

Oh thats right. I was wondering if you had Mairsil as your commander and exiled Inalla using his ability if you could use the eminence ability from the command zone but I guess it wouldn't work because Mairsil needs to be in play to use his ability.
It's in there but there is a lot of people on twitter right now saying it isnt foil so maybe there is a 4th wizard legendary.
There is a fourth one. The Dragon deck also has four commanders - the three new ones plus Scion of the Ur-Dragon.
I hope it's not. Friend just bought me a foil Marchesa as a present and I am in love with it.
