Falcom Gakuen is low-key the best thing to come out of Falcom's spin-off / side project efforts. Its only crime is that it's not offered on Kindle for me to buy.

Oh oh God I wish these were translated

I fee like i'm missing an integral part of Cold Steel

Are there really no scanlations of this? Man, Falcom never gets the love it deserves. :(

Judging by this classic, there seems to be a good amount of self-awareness too which just makes the fact that we don't get these even more painful.

Earlier today I finished the third chapter of SC.

I neven ran as fast as I did (thank you, Turbo option) when I
got a letter starting with "My Dearest Estelle." I was so nervous, went hastily to Gurune Gate only to see Kevin...

That mix of excitement/disappointment was followed by a long and intense series of events, with:

every other bracer drugged,
Agate and Anelace appearing,
Renne and Dunan kidnapped,
Kanone reappering plotting revenge,
having the pleasure of fighting as Julia with her amazing arts,
and finally Renne showing her true colors and running away with a mecha.

I had forgotten how crazy this franchise can go, and I'm nowhere near the end.

Hmmm.... hi..... erm.....

Why did I look at some of the recent CS3 updates.... :(

If it makes you feel any better, i'm 99.999999% sure they didn't intend for said character to be a surprise. Like, he's definitely going to make an appearance early on as a consistent threat.

Hell, I bet the game's OP will spoil show him.

I'm really surprised you guys are this worried about someone wearing
a mask.

Like, yeah, this is clearly not a big mystery to be ruined. At the very least it shouldn't be taken at face value.

Of course they know! Towa outright calls him a serial head-rubber within the game itself.

Oh? I don't remember that.

I don't think it's a spoiler, I just think it's lame. Just like how I think the CERO C rating for CS3 is probably going to be lame. The only Kiseki games which are CERO C are the Evo versions of SC and Ao because of extra lewdness. Not a good sign.

Falcom's willingness to
bring back character from the dead willy-nilly
certainly doesn't make me more excited for Cold Steel III.

Who knows the real identity of the man behind the mask? :p
There's no way they'd make it that obvious without some awesome story behind it. And if you read the descriptions, the mystery deepens.

There's no way it's him

And even if it is, i'm totally expecting this:

Masked_Man_Battle_551656.jpg

I don't think it matters.
It's not just Crow, but rather a running trend in all of Cold Steel so far. Obviously most people didn't expect Osborne to stay dead, but we've gone through two whole games where there's a full blown civil war and there are pretty much zero casualties. CS2 makes a HUGE deal out of Crow finally biting it, and making it out to be a closure to his character arc. So when they're so comfortable with playing with expectations again by immediately bringing him "back" as a masked character, it's pretty lame. No, it doesn't matter whether it is "really him" or not, because it has his VA (currently listed as ????? geee I wonder why!), his weapons, his hair and build. The point is that it's a stupid narrative technique, and one that I think makes CS, a series with already tired overused tropes, another step lamer.

Doesn't help that in the same magazine reveal they also mention that the JAEGER KING is also set to appear. So even backstory deaths aren't reliable. See? Running trend.

Consider how CS and CS2 went, I'm not holding my breath for any "amazing story" behind it.

Not just
Crow, but apparently they're also bringing back Loewe (again!)? Really?
I can't imagine any scenario which makes this a good narrative move.
Black bar is absolutely unconfirmed. That's just Guan speculating about a possible identity of
Black Alberich
, whoever that might be.

Jury's out on whether these developments will pan out well. I think it's interesting how some parts of Trails 3rd are being used here, but there had better be good logic behind what's been hinted.

At least this they made known was going to happen near the end of CS2. Anything else was just speculation considering they had already done it once.

I don't really mind the trope, just that it's done well whenever it's used. It was a bit hit or miss in 3rd and I really liked it for the most part in Xenosaga, but it's been a while between those and CS3. Which we know things have changed in terms of quality in some regards when it comes to Cold Steel and any past games.

Huh, popped on 3rd to check out an early star Door. Then I noticed turbo mode and put another three hours in. That's a game changer lol

Might test through the rest if the game over the next few nights if I can.

There's really no reason to expect them to appear at all (except maybe if
Black Alberich is Loewe
as some people have speculated.)

Well, they said
characters associated with colors
are coming back. That puts a few people you wouldn't normally expect on the table.
Namely Schera and Joshua.

Even after Kondo said Sen3 is some sort of big finale turning point which they hope to have all the previous protagonists reappear?

Well...Unlike the colourful characters announced this week,
there is no reason that Schera and Joshua have a reason to "should not exist".

Except Kondo never said they hope to have all the previous protagonists reappear in Sen III.

I've never seen him describe it as such. Cold Steel 2 was the turning point for the series, not 3, and he also never said that he wanted all the previous protagonists to reappear in CS3. In fact, as far as I know, he's never said anything of that nature referring to any future plans, either.

I am absolutely sure that a short time after CS3 was first announced, he had an interview in Dengeki Playstation where he said that it would be a big game and a major climax which serves as a turning point for the entire series. He also said that fans can expect characters from all the previous Kiseki series to appear, but maybe he didn't say protagonists exactly? I mean, my memory definitely isn't perfect, but this interview happened!

Maybe they can have Estelle and Joshua appear for a few minutes in the epilogue, and explain that they lost their way when trying to
go back to Liberl from Crossbell.

To be honest, the cast feels already kinda bloated, how many characters could they possibly get back? Even if it is as long as CS2 it still will be one game, not 3 lol.

Doesn't Sen III happens one year and a half after Cold Steel 2?
I doubt they lost their way so long lol

If Estelle and Joshua do turn up for sen 3, I think it's far more likely that they go
"Yeah Tita/Agate/Olivert contacted us in some way and said stuff was happening? and that they needed assistance? I dunno why the contacted us specifically though."
... Or something. I'm sure if having them around is important, they'll find an excuse to get them in Erebonia, it's not *that* far from Liberl.

Crossbell and Liberl sent their representatives.

Estelle and Joshua can still be in the games. Agate might call them or they could meet up at Haken Gate.

The same could be said for Lloyd. I don't think they will have an active part in this, more a behind the scenes stuff.

Oreiller

I think Lloyd is much more likely to show up than Estelle and Joshua since
he was playable in CSII and has met Rean
.
Wouldn't surprise me too much if they all showed up at some point though.

I'm not entirely sure what to make of the conversation in 3rd where
the entire party seem to imply that Agate and Tita are a couple.

Yep, 3rd does not screw around with dark scenes. The entire
Lord of Phantasma reveal/Gehenna is dark and then there's Star door 15, which well....buckle up, because it's probably the darkest scene I've seen in a game.
I feel like I may have missed 15 (and so 14), unless I'm wrong about where the point of no-return was. But right now I'm
wandering around Gehenna as Kevin/Ries, and I can't get back to the hermit's garden.

You haven't missed anything, you should be able to access them soon.

There's another place in that plane which you'll have access to before the final dungeon.

Still waiting on the resolution for 3rd's ending with
Olivier proposing something to Schera
, so I'm fully expecting that to be a surprise in CS3.

Welp, just got 3rd gifted on Steam for my birthday. Here's to another 80 hours RPG? Is this one as long as SC?

Doing everything you can in a single playthough, it was about 10 hours shorter than FC for me at about 50 hours

Btw, that's definitely how you should play it, the only thing that might be a bit annoying are some of the Sun Doors (minigames)

Morrigan Stark

Arrogant Smirk
Ah, good to know! I took about 50 hours for FC and like, 80 hours for SC, I think I'm slower than average, but it's good to know it's nowhere near as long as SC.

I'm slower than everyone, because steams says 58 hours for me and I used cheat engine to speed things up.

Then again, I am the type to kill monsters non stop.
