RUMOUR: No Man's Sky leak around v1.3 update

It's a shame these updates weren't part of the game at release. Review scores probably would have been much higher and obviously the launch firestorm could have been avoided. Plus more people would still be playing today.

Glad they didn't abandon the game though since the updates have certainly improved it. It's slowly getting towards what Sean and team wanted the game to be at release.

I'm trying to keep my hype in check over the leaked stuff. Would be bummed if things like quests and crashed freighters aren't there. Lol.

I'm sure they would've loved to delay the release, there was probably a lot of factors in and out of their control which forced them to release it when they did.

I've had NMS since day 1 on PS4 but I'm really hoping for a Steam sale so I can get back into it on my PC. I don't use my PS4 these days and $60 is incredibly steep, imo.

So is this going to steer the game away from the more grind-heavy economy? I'd love to buy a freighter, but I just do not have the time to sink into it to grind out the credits.

Yeah I'm excited but I'm worried people are gonna be let down by whatever 'joint exploration' is

Maybe it's somehow tied into the 'citizen science' thing they have going on. I don't think they would call it 'joint exploration' if it was multiplayer. Seems like a different thing.

What the hell is this update?

I'm thinking that's the equivalent of organic weapons but for ships.

I feel like this is one of those sunken costs things, I'm not even sure i'm using this phrase correctly, but what was the point of patching this game in this fashion at this stage? It's been a year, anyone who was actually interested in this game already got burned and moved on. Everyone else is looking forward to the other games that are out already or coming out soon. I feel like the company managing these resources, or "developers", has wasted them.
That's not true for everyone, otherwise, why is there so many NMS threads popping up again, and activity on Reddit and Steam? People are still playing, people are still interested.

Not like it matters now but I still don't understand why he lied about there being multiplayer. Seems like a huge lie to make. I cannot in good conscience purchase this games after such a lie... Maybe it can still be added in the future? Probably not.

It was likely not an intentional lie. They were probably intending on adding it then ran out of time and money. Looking at their post launch effort I feel like it's pretty obvious they were never trying to mislead people.

1. the leaked patch notes say "joint exploration", so make of that what you will.

2. Sean admitted at his GDC talk that they ran out of money. He probably hoped HG could implement multiplayer before anyone found each other, but underestimated the internet and got caught out. He handled it badly, but people make mistakes. An apology would be nice, but it looks like they're trying to correct the mistakes, which goes a long way in my book.

With the multplayer they were talking about 99 percent of people would never even meet due to the size of the galaxy.

So it was never a true multiplayer experience.

Well, I guess we'll find out what the truth soon enough, but it would certainly be a nice feel-good story if these guys spent the past year enduring death threats and constant insult/harassment with their heads down trying to make good on their promises. It's hard not to respect that regardless of your feelings on the original release.

Not sure if I'll use the story or portals updates much since I never follow the Atlas path and never really leave my a sort of 10-15 star system territory...

But system economies with improved trading definitely has my attention or updates to freighters.... hope it's trade or resource-gathering related. Procedural missions could be nice.

Curious to see what the updated 'visor' is... The current weather effects on the visor (e.g. frost) are one of my favorite aesthetic parts of survival.

That desert pic on the 2nd page is sexy... I spent almost 2 weeks trying to find a good desert planet and the closest I ever got was always red-ish/orange-ish, or a green hue if it was yellow-ish that made everything white look very light green.

I'm so hyped to jump back in again

I just hope the performance on PC gets better it stinks on my rig ATM oh and the 21:9 support to be better would be grand but I'm not expecting that.

Guess I'll be deleting my save data again though....I've never even did the atlas path complete or got to the center after about 5 tries lol

Check out the threads talking about the game, many of us are still playing it and many are returning because of the ARG and update talk, so go elsewhere with your debbie downer attitude. I'm super excited about this update, sounds awesome!

New screens going in OP, straight from their website CDN:

Terrain editing is there too.

This is a major update.

That's a pic of a crashed freighter!

On the planet surface! I wonder if we can explore inside them?

Those new ground textures are looking real nice, certainly better than that all flat rock that everything had.

Yes, and they've improved the creature textures too from what I am see.

The terrain editor may turn out to be a real game changer, it'll be interesting to see how that all works.

Also one of the screenshots lists system stats such as 'economy' and 'conflict level'. Definitely some new mechanics going on there.

Yeah I'm thinking that the experiment in the ARG where people had to help out finding stuff within the game is the type of "joint exploration" we'll see, maybe using the message system and a central hub of sorts instead of taking that talk outside of the game. Could be fun for those wanting that.

As for myself I just hope they don't turn it into a mmo and let people destroy other peoples bases etc, that's the one thing that would pull me out of the game at this point unless online can be turned off.

I've already committed to purchasing the game outright if this list is real. Even if its half of that, i'll be in there. Holy shit.

The ARG that just finished in support of this update apparently attracted a quarter million participants. There's still substantial interest and they're clearly earning goodwill back by sticking with the game, delivering on early promises and eliminating perceived weaknesses. This is a game they can iterate on for years because the potential scope is just so bonkers.

If this update proves as substantial as the datamining suggests, I'd wager they're probably going to be able to start thinking about monetizing from DLC after this.

If this was a PC €30 early access game, it would have sold millions probably.

At this point, I'm just ok with waiting another year or so. It seems that they are now finally introducing features/updates everyone wants.

Imagine what this game could be in a few years, if they keep adding updates to it. The potential is still there.

For people who were mid-way through playing the game during the last two big updates, were your games updated with the new content/features or did you have to start new games? I ask because I'm currently in the middle of playing but I'm still quite early in and was wondering whether it's worth packing it in and waiting.

But, can you see other players?

Depends on what Joint Exploration means. I'm leery though as I'm betting its not true co-op or multiplayer but more of joint quests/goals that multiple people can participate in. But it does look to be a massive update, so we'll know soon enough.

My save games did update with the new features, though if the leaked notes hold, I'd recommend a cold restart.

I hope it is true multiplayer but I would of thought that would of been a main part of the original announcement if true. So joint exploration could mean a global exploration as a playerbase etc.

I suppose not long until we find out!

Saved games were updated with all the new features so we didn't need to restart.

However with this patch revamping the story it may be recommended to start over to see the changes from the very beginning.

I would assume the next world you're visiting will be generated with the new codes, therefore having new stuff. As for mission, tradings, new combat and other feature will be added in like past updates.

It took them a year, but it sounds like they've finally made the game that should have been there at launch. Kudos to them for sticking it out and improving on what they had.

Being able to fly close to the ground, and fly through canyons [thus having more actual control over your ship] is already a huge plus.

joint exploration is probably going to be something do with servers like everyone has to scan certain animals to make a census or something. It be a start for multiplayer im not expecting them jump straight into co-op

What do you mean with legit? It's from an official source?

This is the official screenshot that came with the announcement:

oh wait... it's different. the stones are floating now and the shadows have moved...
mhhh ok that's interesting

If those are the portals damn, look amazing as heck. Since playing metroid and prime games i always wanted a decent/great space emulator where you can explore etc.

So i really want to try the game after this update finally got it lying sealed still.

'Joint Exploration' will be some kind of Dark Souls message system/linked worlds. From this developer, even if they used language like 'Multiplayer Co-Op' you can't take that at face value.

Joint exploration is not multiplayer. Don't do this to yourselves again. It would've been called multiplayer if it was multiplayer.
