PlayStation VR Thread 2: Reloaded

Do 3D Blu-Ray movies work on PSVR, I hear MKV files are not supported? Is there any way of knowing if the movie will work?

I couldn't find a good answer to this using google so hoping someone here has experience with getting 3D playback working.

3D mp4's atleast work via Littlstar app.

Yep. This is definitely in the category of too good to be true, especially when you realize it's developed by a single person. But hey, I always went into stuff with minimum expectation.

So while Syndrome VR is still in limbo, Bigmoon Entertainment announced new stuff.

New horror shooter Erased will be revealed at Gamescom alongside showcase for Syndrome.
Newly-announced upcoming title Erased uses a similar style to Syndrome and will also be available on VR platforms. Erased follows the story of a military research team who head to a city in Russia that was destroyed by ‘The Tsar' the largest thermonuclear bomb ever created. The team discover that the survivors have created a new civilisation living underground. After having no contact with the outside world for decades, the underground city has descended into a horror of mutated cannibals, power-mad dictators and brainwashed soldiers.
Bigmoon Entertainment are planning for Erased to be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, with VR compatibility planned to be available for PlayStation VR, HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. The release is anticipated for Q1 of 2019.

Almost felt like they were tasked to do Syndrome, and they spent too much effort in a throwaway DLC mode they decided to make a full game for it.

Some extra info for Gene Rain:

It's a PS4 game with VR mode, base game 8 hours and VR mode 1.5 hours.
Game is set on future where 80% of the population has been wiped out. Government formed into some sort of evil empire. Gene rain turns human into mutants, requiring humans to invent robotic hearts and bla bla bla. You will play as a rebel army, taking down the empire.

Seems like a horizon rip off.

It doesn't make sense to compare with Crackdown either, because the buildings you topple in Crackdown aren't effectively Jenga blocks textured to look like a building. Whilst standing, it's an actual functioning building with interiors support structures, and stuff like elevators stairs etc that make then navigable.
Crackdown is clearly on a different scale overall, but the destruction part isn't impossible for a lower-budgeted game. X-Morph has extensive demolition, and the interior rooms and structural components of the buildings are modeled. The results are not entirely convincing, but a decent approximation given the indie provenance.

Just took a look at it, and tbh that's kinda what I meant when I said about the building basically being Jenga blocks. It's clearly made up of combined parts, but it also obviously too simplistic for you to really imagine running around having a deathmatch within the structures.

Scale is basically everything though at the end of the day. You could have a simplistic representation of pretty much anything with less resources. Destruction of structures was proven possible long before this generation of consoles (as far back as Blast Corps for something really primitive), it's the scale that changes the argument.

I just got this farpoint bundle for $80 from gamestop, but its value is really over $150. So tempted to resale it for brand new. Solo tempted...

Time is going to move so slow for the next month and a half. I've watched the Megaton Rainfall trailer like 10 times today. I thought it was dead and now it looks so good! Ever since I saw the video from a year and a half ago with the main character flying out of the galaxy I have been on the lookout for this.

Got some PSVR game time yesterday. Been away on holiday for a week, so took an enforced break from VR.

Finally got round to finishing Statik: What an awesome game! The last puzzle box was a bit of a let-down if I'm honest; not as strong as some of the other puzzles. The ending left me scratching my head a bit.
Anyone who hasn't tried it yet should definitely give it a go; there's a free demo and it's definitely a must-have IMO.

Spent a bit more time with Farpoint and the Aim. Loving the way that the controller is integrated into the VR world, aiming down the sights is superb. Ordered a camera clip so that I can move the PS camera above the TV as I'm getting some minor problems with the Aim occluding the headset tracking lights.

What are the best VR games with Move controllers? I got these as a gift and I want to use them more. I bought Rush of Blood in the recent EU sale and started that yesterday, feels pretty great using them. I've already played Batman at a friend's , so not really interested in that. The only essential game in this category seems to be Job Simulator, any more?

Superhot is great and requires the move controllers, though it's not in the EU sale at the moment.

Though I played for the first time it last night and none of my trophies were unlocking. It was like I've never played the game. Had a look around and it seems to be a common issue after the recent patch

I booted up The Brookhaven Experiment last night after buying it on sale a while back.

It seems... really cheap and ugly. The Aim support doesn't seem to work anywhere near as well as with Farpoint. Also the flashlight mechanic just bugs the hell out of me, it's like Doom 3 all over again.

Am I missing something?

Superhot as mentioned before
Dick Wilde - Wave Shooter
The Heist (part of VR Worlds)

There's lots of good games that use the moves but I dunno if you'd call them essential, it all depends if you like the genre. Tethered for example is highly rated with the moves but you need to like RTS / tower defence.

It's occurred to me that we get asked these questions a lot as there simply isn't the platform specific info out there (like what are the best driving games for PSVR). Is this something we could collectively do and put in the op? Maybe vote for a game in each category and list the top 5 of each...

Seems like I will join PSVR GAF soon since I'll get the PS VR bundle incl. the camera, Move and PS VR Worlds today :D Can't wait!!

No, it's pretty bad. Also I hate having to use a button to flip 180 degrees. If the character had half a brain he/she would put his/her back to the wall.

Everything about the game is clunky and unattractive.

It was lots of fun at release but now it already aged like hell in comparison

They have Aim support but don't allow you to rotate using sticks, easy thing to implement, and would make it much easier for me to put some time in on it. Its such a FAF for me to setup for standing play.

I still haven't played more than the first level of this game. My play area isn't big enough for me to stand and be able to duck and move and stuff.

You can play through sitting down, low difficult and duck a bit, got me through to the end. Good fun as well.

I rented Ping Pong VR. The tracking is really good but it's fucking inexcusable that the game doesn't have online multiplayer. Sent it back after a day.

Thanks, I add Superhot and Dick Wilde to my wishlist. Already played the regular edition of Superhot but I guess VR is a new game entirely. Not into RTS/Tower defense, so less interested in Tethered.

A generel game recommendation post would be very useful, but that'd require some (combined) effort I guess.

Also impulse bought Statik and Wayward Sky before they're out of sale. With that and Thumper, I've got some VR'ing to do!

doesnt Rez Infinite also work with the Moves or a single Move? i never tried it.. no idea if its better than with the dualshock (i doubt it).

It does but it had noticeable lag when I tried it when first released. Don't know if a patch fixed that. Even if you just want to use it to press the button while aiming with your sight it's worse than using a dualshock.

Now flood me with recommendations GAF :D

Congratulations!

There are free demos of Rush of Blood and Statik; can't go wrong with them. There's a COD-themed space fighter 'demo' as well that's free.

RE7 is outstanding, but could cause some motion sickness until you get your 'VR legs'.
Dirt Rally VR is great. It can be found cheap, but it's a tough simulation racer, so it depends if that's your taste.

Polybius is a mandatory purchase. Puts a big dumb smile on my face every time I play it.

The new trophy fix patch is out now (UK).

When you see two floating hands in a VR game trailer, you would assume it's Move supported. They pulled a robinson on us. At least they plan on supporting it? hopefully.

For the good side of news, Chromagun Aim support is going great.
https://twitter.com/pixel_maniacs/status/896043500256493569

Havent followed the game much, and havent seen floating hands in any videos yet. But if you see any standard looking fps locomotion, then you cant assume Move support however.

AIM support is much appreciate though, and should fit perfectly.

Wacky Wings, Dimension Hunter and Henry The Hamster Handler have all been submitted to Sony for certification. I assume release dates should follow in the next few weeks.

Dimension Hunter in particular, with its comic book style visuals, looks really interesting.

Curious to see if Dimension Hunter end up with Aim support day 1 or not. Since it was kind of promised.

I really didn't like the demo for Dimension Hunter on PC. The art style is pretty cool, but the gameplay is pretty boring.

I think it looks interesting in terms of visual style, but the gameplay looks repetitive as fuck. Unless the game takes players to varied and engaging environments, I don't feel like it's going to have the draw to keep me playing until the end. An appealing aesthetic can only carry a game so far.

Speaking of unique aesthetics, I'm still debating biting on Rez for $18. The demo honestly didn't do much for me, but I saw an article where someone was in the same boat and said the full game won them over.

Oh my god it looks so good.

99% chance that is running on a beefed up PC and not PSVR.

I mean from what we have seen now, I do not think this is possible on OG PS4+PSVR.

This is like No Man's Sky VR...well sort of but I do not think this can run at 60FPS and do all that. (specially flight mode at speed of light and going in a planet from space to land.)

Gonna need a video where its running on PS4 hardware else this is BS.

Never been a big rez fan, since I first bought it back in the dreamcast days, the vr demo did nothing for me either, but for whatever reason the full vr game is much better than the demo and blows non vr rez away.
I don't regret buying it (on sale).

Call me a cynic but while I will be delighted if it's good, I don't believe for a second this game will end in anything other than tears for the people getting hyped up.
Also, flying into random procedurally generated cities and fighing a few robots with the gameplay shown doesn't actually sound like something that would be very fun for more than 15 minutes.

Ultrawings just released on gearvr, so I think we'll hear more about the psvr version soon!

I have psvr and gearvr and am torn on whether to get it for gear vr or wait for a psvr release.

Psvr is superior hardware, but gearvr is just so much more convenient for me to use for a few minutes at a time.

It's not a hard decision when you consider PSVR version will feature full hand tracking movement to toggle stuff in the airplane while Gear VR version is extremely simply in graphics plus look at stuff to toggle.

It'll be a literal megaton for VR if it's that open. Developed for PSVR & PCVR. I'm sure PSVR will have a downgrade from the PC counterpart but still looks fun.

Playing Rush of Blood right now and it starts out slow, but every new level is a bit crazier than the one before. I have one more level to go, will probably try some of the harder difficulties because normal was pretty easy. Probably won't go for the plat/collectibles, seems like a chore.

This is definitely a game where I need to take a break every couple of levels, it's pretty intense.
