LEGO are teasing one of the largest sets ever

If it's a 700 dollar Falcon or some shit I think I'll just buy it as an investment. Wouldn't mind making a cool 3000 dollars in 7 or 8 years.

Yeesh. I'd love a new giant set. (My only one is the Ghostbusters firestation). Building huge sets is really fun. But I'll probably take a hard pass on a $700 Star Wars set.

For those who don't know, one of the coolest things about the UCS Millenium Falcon is it's to scale with the mini figs. If they add even a partial interior to this update, it's going to be amazing. Day 1 for me. I'm not missing this again and hopefully it'll have a round dish option; fuck the rectangle dish.

Sadly even though I'm a huge Lego fan I'm just not in the position to drop over $500 on a single Lego set. That would mean not getting any more Lego for most of a year :(

Word of warning, if you really want this set you probably want to get it the minute it goes up on their site or be there in line early if you have a Lego store nearby. Even with the price tag this is an insanely hyped set and Lego hasn't met demand on sets before. Most recently the Saturn V rocket. The UCS Tumbler sold out and wasn't available through the holidays or even a couple months after the holidays.
Echoing this. If you want it, snag it quick. If not, speculators/scalpers will make sure it is hard to find. Heck, we already have posters in here talking about buying it just to sell again.

Obligatory UCS Jar Jar Binks post.

I'm probably not going to buy this simply because I have nowhere to display it.

Come on Lego, something like any of these.

If it's the Falcon (which is likely) then I'm really not sure where the hell I'd display it. My house is severely lacking for space and I can't even hang it off the ceiling. I'd probably have to build myself a dedicated shelf just for the one set. Definitely looking forward to seeing it though, should be absolutely insane.

Yup, it's the Falcon. Have my pennies already set aside for this one.

I reckon this'll sell out pretty quick so I'll probably order off the Lego website when the set goes live.

If only Lego didn't cheap out on packaging materials. Fuckers sent my SSD with a couple of poxy air pillows. Consequently the box was pretty badly dished in by the time it got to me. Hundreds of pounds worth of product protected by less than a penny's worth of packaging.

Nail biting stuff if you're a fussy collector.

I hope it's a Lego Titanic. I have no idea why there is not one to begin with.
It's kind of a terrible tragedy, to be making something as inherently whimsical as Lego out of.

There was one dude who made a gigantic sinking Titanic Lego model for a show, and it had little guys flying out overboard. He posed in front of it, laughing with thumbs up, lol. It was kind of distasteful IMO.

I hope that instead of being larger than the old UCS falcon, it's about the same size, but with an interior.

Edit:
There better not be one sticker in this set...

I don't want it bigger but I also don't care about an interior that I'm never goinf to look at..

It pretty much has to be a UCS Falcon. The old Falcon commands a ton on the secondary market (something like $5k the last I had seen), and I'm sure Lego is aware of this and sees it as a barometer of what an updated release of the UCS Falcon could make them.

Point taken. I still think it's such a well known landmark all over the world that it would be cool to see it as a set. You don't have to show it split in half by the iceberg, LOL, I agree that is a bit much (just imagine if this guy had a Twin Towers set hit by a plane).

Eeeh, as someone from the very heart of the folks that designed and built Titanic, everyone can disassociate the pop culture "Titanic" from the real thing. People from NI celebrate the Titanic for what it was, not for it's demise, it was an incredible ship, the tragedy and the ship itself are separate. A LEGO Titanic would not cause a fuss from anyone with a right to be upset with it, but stuff like that picture, yeah, that's a little distasteful.

What's the previous highest piece count? I think it's the Taj Mahal at close to 6,000 but could be wrong? If this thing has more than 6,000 pieces that's going to be nuts.

I actually hope it's *not* the falcon. I want something completely new.

Wait...What's wrong with this picture? The guy is posing in front of a fucking incredible MOC and is proud of it? I can't imagine that he went in saying, "Tragedy is hilarious and people dying makes me laugh. Take my pic! #titanic #loltragedy"

Also, new UCS for $700 is awesome, but I will not be able to splurge on that right now.

What's the difference between a Titanic MOC and, say, a 9/11 MOC? Tons of people dying... not really something to be celebrated. The model is stunning, but the levity is questionable.

On topic, I still don't have space in my house for this monstrosity.

So was the cast of the movie smiling on the red carpet at the premier in bad taste, too? How about smiling collecting an Oscar? (did Titanic win any Oscars? not sure)

So as not to completely derail: how is the availability on the Saturn Rocket? I have been buying all the car sets when they release (skipped the Beetle though, blue monstrosity) but hesitated on the rocket... am I screwed?

For anyone interested in this as an investment - please note that sets from 2007-2009 largely skyrocketed in value because Lego wasn't as huge back then. There wasn't a big scalper market speculating, so there weren't as many sets on the market, thus the prices soared.

Now, this set will probably stick around for 4-5 years, and people will hoard it like crazy. It will definitely go up in price after it has been discontinued, but I wouldn't say it's a good idea to store a bunch of these waiting for a big cheque.

There will most likely be a rush to get it this Christmas though, so if you feel like being a scalper, there you go.

I would be VERY surprised if this ever reached $3000.

I don't want to stoke any fires... but LEGO sets STILL command notable aftermarket prices.. no not like the original LEGO Star Wars stuff.. but as someone still trying to get a bunch of the Monster/Halloween sets... this shit ain't cheap.

but yes, more in line with 2-4 times price increase, as opposed to 8-15 times.

A lot more time has passed. Nobody who were at the Titanic is still alive. Nobody knows anybody who died in the Titanic.

A teaser has appeared on their FB page, confirming its Star Wars related with a release date of 1st October.

Edit: Just saw it's been mentioned already.

I'd buy a new ucs falcon. I bricklinked the original piece by piece like 5-6 years ago and sold it after I had my fun.

I love the way these big sets look.

Despite collecting tons of meaningless stuff, I just can't bring myself to pay this much for plastic pieces.

Lego has to make a killing on this stuff.

Well, time, for starters. You think anybody would be up in arms over Pompeii or the Black Death?

Given that is obviously BB-8 in the picture, we are probably getting a square dish Millennium Falcon with Rey/Finn mini figs.

I'm in day 1. Lego is my go-to stress relief, so $700 for at least two week's peace of mind is a small price.

Also I'm a fucking Lego Star Wars addict.

All the controversy in here reminds me of the Lego concentration camp sets.

Done as an art project. Lego donated the pieces but had no idea the end result was going to be a controversial piece with their company being a big part of it. The artist designed a series of sets around the theme and made boxes and everything that look straight out of Lego. I think it is really thought provoking.

Well, we built a massive Lego guillotine when we were kids. Back than I didn't get why my mother was so appalled...
