Gremlins 3 has been written & is real. No CGI, twisted & dark

talk of Gremlins 3 is finally real and original screenwriter Chris Columbus has written a script.

Columbus says his script returns to the macabre tone of the original film, whose monster murders were so intense that it, along with Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, pressured the MPAA to create the PG-13 rating. Gremlins 2 was rated PG-13
.....

Gremlins fans are also worried that a new film would use CGI gremlins in place of the puppets. Columbus assured fans the film would still use puppets, but visual effects could make puppetry easier to achieve than it was in 1984.

Gremlins 3 is now in development at Warner Brothers.

Apart from the bit where Chris Columbus wrote it :(

I don't think the bit that made Gremlins great was Chris Columbus. And he didn't write the amazing Gremlins 2.

I will keep my fingers crossed of course as I love the first two.

Edit: I wonder if he'd sound so open to killing Gizmo if he'd created the character all by himself.

Gremlins 1 is great. 2 is trash.

Here's hoping it'll be in the same style as the original.

Edit: "trash" may be a bit harsh a word. But it's certainly nowhere near as good as the original.

I'd be overjoyed if Dante comes back.

IMO the first film is great and the sequel is okay. It just took a very different turn than i wanted it to and well, i guess it's much more funnier than the original which really is quite dark.

Gremlins 2 is great (and I prefer it), but in a different way from 1. Either way, Joe Dante deserves a bucketload of credit for making those movies work as well as they did. Hope he comes back (and has another few drafts on the script made).

I will have reservations unless they get Joe Dante to direct.

100% in if Joe Dante directs it. 75% faith if Chris Columbus directs, 50% faith if anyone else directs.

If they invited Joe Dante back, I wouldn't care what kind of film he ends up making. He could do whatever he wants.

Problem is they are liking going for that Jurassic World buck, where in that case I would prefer it to just be dark comedy.

They need to get Michael Dougherty. Krampus and Trick 'r Treat were great movies and he would be the perfect director for Gremlins 3. No soft reboot crap I hope.

Mogwai?

Seriously though, one of my favorite childhood films (really tells you how dark shit used to be when this was considered a kid's film back then, and Robocop wasn't like NC-17). So glad Columbus wrote it.

Hope they bring Joe Dante back. if its just every other generic horror movie today with some gremlins thrown in then to hell with it.

the first is the best but the sequel was pretty insane tbh. I fear that WB has lost its balls trying to chase that Disney money now though that they might not let them get so weird with it this time.

no CGI is great news!

Please don't suck

I wouldn't take that for granted until they have a final cut in place. And I hope there is *some* cgi (and in the interview he suggests that there still would be). I doubt anyone would mourn the stop motion sequences getting replaced by CGI.

Hope this happens. Loved the gremlins fioms growing up and watch them from time to time every few years.
I think the first and second have very different vibes to each other but they're both awesome films in their own way. I couldn't pick one over the other. Brit here btw.

yeah you're right, would have been better to say "less CGI is great news"

I find a mix of both used in different ways to be effective.

Krampus used a lot of physical effects and a bit of cgi and I found it's visuals to be right on the money for the tone and setting it was aiming for.

I thought Joe Dante held the rights to this...?

Both movies are incredible so if it's got the right people it'll probably be good.
