Sobe in Munch's oddysee. Not quite as bad as Cup of Noodle but still totally breaks the world building/fiction of the Oddworld universe

the worst I've ever seen is definitely cup noodles. At least the Coleman chairs were just there. Never in your face and never really feeling out of place.

Cup noodles has gladiolus straight up spilling out an advertisement speech completely undisguised as a side quest.

Havent played alan wake, but that verizon one seems really bad too.

I don't have a screenshot, but right now in the Nintendo Badge Arcade you can pay to play to "earn" decorations that are literally just little digital stickers that are pictures of Amiibo in their packaging.

It's like the above Splatoon example, except you decorate your Home screen with them.

Thanks, Nintendo!

The NHL games are a good example of advertising in a game, they're not pointless as they appear that way in-game but with all the advertising money that goes into it, why are we paying $79.99 (CND) for a yearly franchise with just a new coat of paint each year?! or returned features from the year prior that were stripped down...

The Cup Noodle in FFXV is neither of these. Completely out of place but not done to the level of insanity needed.

Dude, there is one mission where gladioulus wants to eat some Cup Noodle with eggs from a rare bird, the crew climbs a friggin mountain, and get the egg just to see a quasi comercial for the noodles

I too think that they are out of place, but at least they had the enough insanity to justify its presence

BR joke was clever tho

Except it wasn't.

They took a shot at the user having to swap discs back in MGS1, and now you don't have to do that. Instead...you must wait 10-15 mins. to install each act before you can play it.

Stupid joke that lacks self-awareness.

These ads were patched in a bit after release. It was especially sketchy because it's fairly clear that these ads were only added in later to avoid reviewers rightfully calling it out.

If you played the game close to launch, you probably never saw the ads. I never saw them either.

The game still had stuff like the ipod and playboy at release right? They might have patched in more adverts after the fact, but the ones that were there at launch were still pretty in your face.

European version of the Snes Biker Mice From Mars game had a ridiculously amount of Snickers product placement.

Alan Wake's batteries and the "Can you hear me now ?" plug

alen-wake-energizer.jpg

It was also really dumb.

Yeah, let's promote out batteries in this game where you are constantly running out of batteries and they die after powering a flashlight for a few minutes !!!

At least cup noodles look good on FF XV

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Oh cool, a Homefront thread.

Huh. I finished the SP on this game and did not notice any of these. Are these just in MP ? or are they the kind of ad's which only populate when you're connected online .. like some other games do.

So many of Sega's arcade games used to either have Pepsi or Coca Cola in them. Loved it.

Also Crackdown's billboards were set up for advertising. One time they were Cloverfield posters.

Was getting caught part of your plan?
In addition to the Cup Noodles and Coleman in FFXV, don't forget how Noctis asks Ignis how great Ebony coffee is while riding the car sometimes.

"Something dawned on me when I was on my own - any food you make tastes better when you use good ingredients right?

Then if you take something already delicious like Cup Noodle and add in the finest, freshest ingredients, what do you get? The ultimate flavor experience!

--------------

You know something? Going through all that trouble to make our own custom cup, it's made me appreciate Cup Noodles even more.

Ignis: Perhaps we truly can't improve upon perfection.

Gladio: It's not about finding the single best ingredient. It's about crafting that perfect blend of meat, egg and shrimp. that harmony of flavours is key.

Prompto: Yeah, you're right. Make you appreciate how delicious these noodle really are

Noctis: I know I sure do."

Definitely Nissin Cup Noodles in Final Fantasy XV.

I had a media blackout on that game and suddenly the Nissin store popped up. It was a wtf moment.

In retrospective I wonder why they didn't feature a real world carmaker instead of the Regalia.

The batteries never die from normal use. And they recharge.

Alan Wake has already been mentioned a lot of times but I didn't see anyone explicitly mention The Signal, the DLC chapter where Alan has to use fucking VZ Navigator to figure out where to go:

It's like if Uncharted had a scene where Nate had to use a Blackberry Passport to solve a puzzle.

Quantum Break did this shit too. Every computer was a Surface, every person had a Windows Phone, and every car was a Nissan. Super jarring. There's a way to do product placement in a way that's semi-tasteful, but Remedy definitely hasn't figured it out.

This was all in single player. I actually vividly remember the opening sequence involving being in a flipped bus as an army of soldiers chase you into the kitchen of a White Castle which you have to defend.

There was egregious stuff in there, lol.

anyone care to give some context and post what the actual product is? Or am I missing something?

It's an action RPG where you use Skittles to cast spells. Yes, those Skittles. The "Taste the Rainbow" Skittles.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darkened_Skye

The Wikipedia article is worth reading, because it has tidbits like this:

300-page script, by lead writer and designer Andy Wolfendon, was written and submitted to Mars, which only asked to change a joke, utterances of "damn" and "remove all the snakes from the game." When Braswell asked for clarification, they said that there could be snake-like creatures, but no actual snakes.

Ultimately, it sounds like Simon and Schuster weren't happy with the Skittles branding, so they hid mentions of it in the marketing. It's super bizzare.

Is Ebony a brand? I thought it's just what they called all coffee.

Ebony was originally what FFXV's engine was called so it was an inside reference to the old engine. After it was put into the game (it was a fake brand) they found out that some obscure brand called themselves Ebony Coffee. They were allowed to keep it in the game as is.

People keep posting Cup Noodles photos from a joke commercial instead of what is actually in the game. But I agree. I'd rather it not be in the game. But I am glad they went tongue and cheek with the quest than going completely serious with the quest.

Edit:

My answer is MGS4 as Apple clearly payed a great deal to get iPod and Apple products in a multitude in scenes. I'll never forget that one cutscene where everything went in slo-mo and as the scene was framed on Ottacon a macbook slowly came into frame and took up the entire frame. Lol.

I don't drive the the German cars in Mario Kart because I'm Jewish and it's one of those unwritten rules.

By the way, Pikmin 2 was all about this:

pikmin-2-20040602105535387.jpg

This one is just a cute reference. Not like they are trying to push Nintendo rewritable disks at that point.
