Wkd BO 0811-1317 - Annabelle conjures up #1, Dark Tower Falls

Trailers are pretty much just mini-music videos now tbh. I wouldn't be surprised if people are just playing them over and over because the music and visuals are dope and fit well. Same reason the SS trailers where popular I imagine, people really like Queen and they really like Harley Quinn.

That fucking video for Heathens off the SS soundtrack has 853 million views, Jesus.

Yep. And it's mostly youths driving those views.

Going by trailer views, Thor should open around $160-170m. Once that doesn't happen, we can stop talking about trailer views.

I have yet to see any serious correlation between trailer views and opening weekend that isn't at least 80% confirmation bias but so long as there is a stat people are gonna use it to try and spot a pattern and predict based on it.

Shhh, OT will hear you and start threads like "Thor 3 doesn't live up to projected youtube view/OW gross ratio, Marvel facing devastating drops in key franchise."

I really don't understand how Squad didn't tank. That movie had legs. Going by that video, some people just like crap.

Every mall has a Hot Topic.

The YouTube stat very roughly correlates within genres. Like, I don't think that you can have a film with the interest of Ragnarok open to Ant-Man numbers (assuming it isnt Fant4stic quality). But you can't rank films based on views. I fully expect Justice League to open significantly higher.

They were trying to grab your prize. They work for the mercenary. The masked man.
I was way too bullish on Spider-Man so now I don't know what to think about Thor. The movie looks awesome and I want it to do well, but that might be clouding my judgement.

Thor 2 was coming off Avengers. Thor 3 is coming off Thor 2 and it's still starring Hemsworth.

Thor 2 was like 50 Marvel movies ago though. It's been over 2 years since we had one that had a mixed reception (outside of the GAF where every film has a mixed reception). Ragnarok is going to ride the wave of quality comic films this year.

Thor 2 isn't worth the extra 11 keystrokes of thumb cartilage per mention to repeatedly type out "The Dark World"

It does feel like Thor 3 is being marketed off the strength of faces new to the series like Blanchett and Goldblum to help wash the taste of the "hey remember all your favorite characters from Thor 1? No? Please?" tone apparent in the Thor 2 The Darck World trailers. Hulk is a crowd pleaser and that doesn't hurt.

Just use initials you fools.

Thor TDW or TTDW if you must.

Ragnarok isn't even hard to spell.

We gotta do this. We got to.

I don't think it'll matter. If the tone for Ragnarok was similar to Dark World, I think people would flee...like a Star Trek Into Darkness -> Beyond drop. But Ragnarok is just checking all the right boxes. They got Hulk in there, it's colorful, funny, and has active female characters.

I'm going to remain bullish on my Thor and IT predictions. I don't think a horror movie hits enough different demographics to hit these $75+m OW predictions being thrown around and Thor 3....is still a Chris Hemsworth movie!

As much as I dislike Suicide Squad, and questionable decisions like Killer Croc, its success was helped by having a fairly diverse cast. That's the only real silver lining.

Yeah. I'm willing to eat crow on IT later. I think it's going to do really well, but I'm just not there with these super high estimates.

But Thor? All the money. All of it. Although, I don't think he's gonna do much of anything for the next Star Trek.

You know, normally I am in the camp of finding the Marvel quip machine irksome at s certain point but Ragnarok looks like such a breath of fresh air compared to the past two Thors that I'm actually really into the goofy tone on display so far.

Like, it's hitting the same notes for me that the first Guardians did. I'm hoping it's breezy as fuck and is flippant as can be towards geeky shit like giving Surtur his due or the Fenrir wolf. Let's see Thor best Hulk by making him slip on a banana peel or something Waititi!

A closed pool and T-Mobile has led to me seeing a movie opening day for the first time in a really long time. 15 minutes to go and this showing of Hitman's Bodyguard only has 5 people in it.

Yeah. Just look at the logo change.

Before,

After,

And as someone pretty disappointed with GOTG2, Thor Ragnarok almost looks more inline with what I wanted after the first GOTG. I'm really looking forward to it.

If I'm wrong about Thor, I'm just giving all credit to Hulk and Cate Blanchett.

I'm giving all credit to Cate Blanchett to spite Ike and anyone complicit in rejecting female villain for Thor 2 and Iron Man 3. Well, and Tessa Thompson to spite the same crew who wouldn't cast black women in the MCU movies.

IM3 really got hosed by not having Rebecca Hall be the actual villain

And from what we've seen so far Tessa's gonna steal the damn show
