Can't bring myself to watch The Force Awakens more than a couple of times

Rey grabbing the saber is already up there so far as Star Warsiest Star Wars moments that ever Star Wars'd.
I think Kylo Ren stopping the blaster fire is pretty up there too in terms.of villain moments.

I also thought the ground fighting on Takodana was pretty memorable.

Nope. What scenes in particular do you have in mind? I can think of a couple for A New Hope but none for TFA, although I forget most of the movie.

I could see the blaster bolt being parodied. I cant imagine any other moment leaving any sort of pop culture footprint.

Kylo Ren stopping blaster Fire
The invasion/attack on Jakku
The battle on Takodana, especially Finn's portions
Han and Kylo on the bridge
Rey channeling the Force to grab the lightsaber and the entire last fight in general is one of the best saber battles in the series.
Luke turning around

All could become iconic scenes, just depends on what resonates with watchers today and what marketing sees as profitable/easy to make into merchandise. All are memorable. And even if they aren't this is a series where Boba Fett somehow became an iconic figure while doing next to nothing the whole time.

I actually thought the blaster bolt was kind of cool but I don't think it would be parodied. All I can think of is when Kylo starts slashing the computer, I'm like what is this idiot doing.

How do those scenes hold up to truly iconic ANH scenes:

Darth Vader 'I find your lack of faith disturbing'
Luke scene after his Aunt and Uncle are killed
Cantina Scene/Han shot first
C3PO being awesome, I could probably think of more.

*ahem*

edit: also, "iconic" isn't really a synonym for "good." The Boba Fett example is a good one so far as speaking to that.

That was a cool scene I admit, although I do have problems with it, it was a good moment for the film, but iconic.. I don't think so.

How do they hold up? They are memorable and leave a strong impression on people. But, the only way to tell if something is truly iconic is with time. As people growing up on 7-9 grow up it will become apparent how much they did or didn't become iconic.

Shh. TFA was a boring rehash with no original moments!

It didn't have/include:

Ren stopping blaster fire with his mind
Freezing people in place
Mind torture
Saber snow fights
Rey grabbing the saber
A stormtrooper turned runaway
A strong woman hero
A bad guy who is genuinely vulnerable
A Classic, original score, Rey's theme
History literally laid out before the audience, visually
Historical storytelling seamlessly integrated into the set itself
The concept of BB-8, reintroduced
A tragic and perfectly executed inverse of Vader saving Luke
A completely mysterious and unknown history of where the hero came from and who she is
The concept of the force "awakening" and having the balls to use it in the title
An original and iconic saber design
Taking the risk of putting the OT heroes through major failures
Taking the risk of having a brand new character murder Han
Taking the risk of turning Luke into an exiled hermit
A classic scene with Rey passing the saber to Luke
Taking a risk of including the first ever flashback in SW
First "battle of minds", using the force to penetrate and resist the mind
The events of the OT becoming myth and lost

Just of the top of my head. Such a rehash, don't ever wanna see it again

I haven't seen it even once. Star Wars kinda lost me a few years ago and TFA doesn't make me want to return to the franchise :/

I didn't like it and think it's shit, God forbid I don't like something you do.

It's less your shitty opinion and more that you can't be bothered to explain/defend/embellish upon/support your shitty opinion.

Which makes your volunteering of said shitty opinion this much emptier and calorie-free.

For a thread that is already now cognizant of its status as a total waste of time, such a contribution is failing to hit even that standard.

Oh and I feel like there wasn't enough "Wars" in Star Wars Ep. 7. Main SW movies have always been a balancing act between a war movie and an adventure movie. You had Luke's adventures set against cook-looking battle set pieces. The battle set pieces in TFA were disappointing to be honest. My favorite one might be right at the beginning when Finn and Poe break out of the Star Destroyer. No wait, the most "Star Wars" moment of TFA for me was the Falcon escape on Jakku. Maybe it's just because of the smaller scale, but the other X-Wing scenes in TFA didn't do much for me. Yeah the Apocalypse Now callback imagery was cool on that one planet but there wasn't much else to what was happening in the air. I personally didn't feel much from when they showed off Poe's skill as a pilot. The Starkiller Base battle was virtually nothing but a callback.

Rogue One made up for that deficiency by focusing almost entirely on the "Wars" aspect.

Hopefully we get to see Kylo do some real shit in that Tie Fighter in VIII. We're gonna get more Rey Falcon, but overall the battles really need to ramp up.

Again, the word "iconic" is being misused/abused here.

I don't think so. Haven't seen ANH in a long time and still remember those scenes. Whereas not so much of any of TFA pops out to me.

There's no dialogue or quote from TFA that really comes to mind either.

I haven't seen the movie but I've watched that scene on youtube more than once. NO chills though.
How you guna get chills if you miss the whole build up though. Thats like... watching a clip of the final Luke and Vader fight on Youtube without seeing ROTJ. Kinda loses its power as a scene.

Although the Luke vs Vader scene in RotJ is the best scene in all of SW.

I have actually thought this. I was like did I just ruin this cool scene because of a lack of context. But, I was pretty disillusioned after TFA.

No, it is.

Uhh.. ok..

Iconic is like... Darth Vader HIMSELF. Iconic is a pretty big deal.

You might be right. I'm thinking of something that is memorable, captures the imagination.

The scenes and lines from ANH have been part of pop culture for nearly half a century and you have likely seen the film many many times. And, heard the lines constantly as well.
TFA is almost two years old and you have seen the movie significantly less, most likely.

I could list many reasons why it sucks but the thread has many people doing it already. I didn't like it and think it's shit, God forbid I don't like something you do.
It has nothing to do with you disliking the film. I didn't even like it my first time. But I just listed a bunch of original shit that's unpredictable in TFA, and I feel like lots of people purposely omit those things and not pay credit where it's due, simply to push a false narrative (ie it's a complete rehash, it's a ANH clone)

Not even close. TFA is the most forgotteable movie in the series IMO.

does it come salt free too?

AOTC easy.

All I remember is Yoda bouncing around and a discussion about sand. And that it was an original, risky bit of cinema...

AoTC was more memorable I think? You can't go nowhere without seeing the sand meme. Also I remember the final scenes pretty well, and the super cheesey romantic scenes. still haven't seen it in almost a decade (only SW movie that i haven't). Granted most of it negative impression I still remember them unlike TFA which aside from the last scene and han solo dying, and Godlike Rey I don't recall it that much.

I do remember a shape shifting bounty hunter who sends a robot that sends a snake to kill Padme. Which come to think of if is the dumbest thing Star Wars has ever done...

I think that was the least of that movies problem. That movie is riddled with issues. Even more so than TPM. TPM if you shut of your mind and just watch its still enjoyable. But AoTC ughh....sitting through those romance scene is a pain.

Yoda lifting the X-Wing, top 5 movie moments IMO

Rey grabbing the saber? Meh, I honestly enjoyed Finn v Kylo despite it's brevity over Rey v Kylo

Nah, I'm with Bobby.

That scene shook me, and I can only imagine little boys and girls watched that with the biggest 'whoa' look on their faces. Girls especially. The moment when Star Wars actually became gender equal (Leia barely counts.)

It's so needlessly convoluted though. Lucas wrote something "cool" that makes no sense. Why would an assassin like Jango hire a shape shifting assassin who'd hire a robot who'd use a snake that'd deliver poison?

It requires every character to literally forget what a bounty hunter is..,
