PS4 owners who upgraded to PS4 Pro, was it worth it?

Not entirely, though I do appreciate Boost Mode and when games have higher/more solid frame rates.

I'd probably like it more if I had a 4K TV.

Yep, it was worth it. No regrets here. I have a 4K LG Oled so the Pro was right up my alley.

No annoyance beside the ugly design. It's pretty quiet too. The controller battery is still arse though.

At the time I had the money so it wasnt a huge deal monitarily.

In terms of normal vs. pro quality ill say that it was worth it, esp. considering the games that came out earlier this year and their improvements via the pro.

Edit: @1080p

It's a definite yes for me. The boost mode is pretty noticeable and I really dislike having an "inferior" version of anything. I'm stupid like that :|

It would be nice to consider upgrading in the future. Definitely will be thinking about the Pro in the future if I see there being a certain set of games that makes me want to upgrade. Where things stand though, I'm happy with just the regular PS4 since I don't game on it too much.

I call it the bullshot machine. It removes jaggies from almost every game that supports it. That was enough for me but I got a 4K TV with it although I would have regardless of TV.

I was very tempted to upgrade to a PS4 Pro when Gamestop had the trade in sale but after reading through this thread it just confirmed my original feeling of there not being enough of a difference and most titles simply don't take enough advantage or any advantages at all. If I had a 4K TV I might have bought into the hype

For me it was worth upgrading to since I have PSVR.

Kept the new controller in the box though since I did the battery upgrade on my original ps4 controller and will just rock on with that one.

It was definitely worth it for me, because I have a 4K OLED TV and I'm a fussy bastard that won't tolerate shitty IQ. Pro offers a significant upgrade in that department. But having said that, I'd struggle to recommend the upgrade to my friends as I don't think they'd notice the difference, especially with many of them still gaming on 1080p TVs and at 40" or less.

It's a shame developers aren't using the additional power in more creative ways than just a 2160pr resolution bump.

I made the GameStop deal a while ago which was a pretty good one since I owned the very first PS4 modell with touch sensitive buttons (shit invention on consoles), expired warranty and a broken eject button I removed so it wouldn't throw out the discs all the time while I was playing.

So, an upgrade from 500 GB to 1 000 GB, complete new console with new warranty, one additional and much need USB port (even more since the introduction of using external HDDs), and a bit more power for 100 bucks and two bad games I would have never touched again.

But no way I would have paid 400 minus the 100 bucks I might have gotten for my old one. Yes, the super-1080p resolution or downsampling is a nice feature but with the few given titles (and even those more to come) I think it's not worth. And I own a 4k 55'' TV which is too far away (with 2.25 m) for taking full advantage. So it's mostly better anti-aliasing.

You will notice it is still a console, means it doesn't do any magic to your existing or to coming games and you always have to rely on developers taking advantage of the Pro or patching existing games, and the image quality is still sub-PC standard.

Maybe, if you get somehow at least 150 bucks for your old one and if you still have a 500 GB HDD, it might be an upgrade worth doing.

I love mine even tho I won't have a 4K TV til next year. The games I care about run much smoother + UI is just way more fluid overall, including the store.

Edit: full disclosure, though: I traded in my old PS4 and Vita to help pay for it.

To everyone suggesting no to those with a 1080p TV, don't you guys care about image quality?

Have you seen a supersampled game on a 1080p display?
For real. I will take that cleaner IQ on a 1080p display any day of the week. Ratchet PS4 looks straight up CGI even on a non-HDR 1080p set.

It was for me I actually noticed a big performance and visual improvement even on my 1080p TV with the increased IQ. Granted the effect has worn off now but it was very noticeable to me when I first bought it. Night and day difference for PSVR.

That's why I'm excited for Scorpio given the increased specs and fact that I sold my Xbone to last year to get my pro with the Gamestop deals.

Eh no. Either my TV is too good or the Pro is lacking. My TV is not good it's actually low end (LG C6 OLED) so it's the Pro. Constant HDMI issues with the TV across two different Pros, HDR is nice but even with perfect setting the Pro just doesn't do it for me. Took half a year for an actually relevant title, spotty full pro support it's just piss poor all around plus no true 4K media. Half Step = Half Assed. As it stands I will never buy another "pro" console again.

Worth it for me, otherwise I'd rarely get much use out of my 4K TV. I have an Xbox S for 4K movies, Netflix for 4K streaming, and Pro for gaming.

Still wish there was more support and a push around the Pro, though. Still baffled how the newly released Uncharted -
which supports Pro enhancements - doesn't have the "Enhanced for PS4 Pro" badge on the back of the game's cover.

I mean every time a Digital Foundry video comes out showing off a PS4 game comparing it to a Pro, sometimes the difference in performance or IQ is enough to make me go "Boy, I sure am glad I have the Pro versus the vanilla PS4."

I came out in the end only having spent 150 on the Pro after selling my original PS4, so the cost wasn't a big deal.

It's not like every game you're going "WOAH!" as some big noticeable thing, but it's when you see the comparisons to the OG unit that you start to appreciate how much better the Pro is.

At this stage it wasn't worth it.

The games I've played on my Pro since launch, apart from Horizon haven't really taken advantage of it.

I don't think Persona had a patch and Yakuza 0 definitely didn't.

Not for 1080p TV owners, because it doesn't do downscaling to 1080p as a standard. It depends entirely on the application/game.

Also it doesn't do UHD Blu-Ray, which I knew going into the purchase, but it just adds to the feeling that this isn't really a "Pro" version of the original console.

As a KS8000 owner, I felt I HAD to get a PS4 Pro.

Sadly it isn't the case. Besides Battlefield 1, Horizon and Uncharted 4, I've yet to see any mind blowing differences between upgrading to the new hardware.

Hopefully, GT Sport, Spiderman and God of War will show more reasons to have a PS4 Pro.

Yeah, it was worth it for the vr upgrade alone. A handful of games look better, which was nice and I was 100% happy with my ps4 pro and then I got a tcl p605 4k tv and my mind was blown. Hdr is real, 4k is real. Pro is great without 4k, amazingly with it.

Purchased a new 4K TV and a Pro on a whim while I perused John Lewis.

Horizon was amazing. Dude raider looked good, RoTR did too. Other than that It's all been a bit meh.

Since you have PSVR.

HELL YES!

For regular PS4 games, there have been a couple nice surprises but people shouldn't feel left out with OG's.

I have a 1080 set.

Yes and no. I got to play the best console versions of Titanfall 2 and Battlefield 1, but dropping all that $ on a better version of a console I already had and a 4k TV only to build an expensive PC half a year later was a bit much in a short period of time. I'm also extremely turned off by 30FPS games still being a thing on the Pro. Luckily the 2 games I primarily played on it were 60FPS.

PS4 is my primary console and I like to play the best version of my games on it so I'd say yeah. I just bought and Xbox One S from my brother and I am fine with it but if I played on Xbox primarily I would probably get the X. Plus I got a 4k TV and Horizon looks incredible :)

I have a 4k TV and I'm really glad I had the Pro for Horizon. I don't think I've really played anything since then that featured significant upgrades though.

I love mine, just started lost legacy and it looks amazing.

Nothing tops horizon though, game was stunning.

I do have a 4k tv so I'm sure that makes a difference.
