Hey guys, I was at GC yesterday.

Here are my brief impressions.

Feel free to add yours.

-

I only played 6 games this year.

FORZA 7.

Played it on XBOX X and PC. Looked just phenomenal. Played two tracks. One was almost at night really showing off that HDR, the other one was the Nürburgring with a heavy thunderstorm setting in after the first lap. Super impressive.
I´d say that the last 2 mainline Forzas were kind of unnecessary, but this one is the real deal.

Game of the show.

SUPER MARIO ODYSSEY.

Fantastic. Indeed the true successor to 64. More of an adventure game. Loved it.

THE CREW 2.

Remember how The Crew 1 was kind of amazing in concept, but was lacking in execution?
Well they fixed that. 2 looks fairly impressive when you consider the scale and finally controls fine. Super hyped.

PROJECT CARS 2

Left the demo early because it did not do anything for me after playing Forza 7.

DESTINY PS4

Just like the BETA, but with slightly lower TTK and a new weapon balance. Preferred the balance over the one in the BETA.

DESTINY PC

Looks and runs amazing.

This is quite exciting. If the controls truly are improved, it could be a really great game.

Might purchase it for Windows if it end up being as good as you said. But first i have to get a xbox controller.

DAMN YOU! I am hyped to hell hand back for this game.

Thanks for the impressions. But hold on, the time to kill is even lower now in Destiny 2? I don't know how to feel about this...

I waited 3hrs to play Monster Hunter World totally worth it since I managed to get a picture with the director :D

Also I was looking all around for Yu Suzuki, sadly couldn't find him to get a picture and tickets are sold out to try again :(

Thanks for the impressions! If you can answer a brief question about Odyssey without going into detail, I'd really appreciate it: even though it is more of an adventure game, is the game still focused on platforming? (I've been on media blackout since the January trailer, but I saw a quote from Koizumi indicating that its open world levels are smaller than BOTW in order to keep the focus on platforming, or something to that effect.)

I only played a desert level. There was a lot of platforming. Even classic 2D platforming.

AC Origins - really blew me away, the Memphis city was very diverse and beautiful. I saw some piramids on the horizon, went there, gained access to a piramid and it had some nice puzzles. Not a fan of the series at all but I loved to play this for an hour, although still quite a few bugs they have to work on until release.

SNES Mini - worked like you expect. Had fun playing Mario World, Street Fighter and Mario Kart. Even though I was behind closed doors I wasnt allowed to play Star Fox 2. Cable for controller is still too short for normal living room use.

Cuphead - hard as nails but even though me and my co op partner died all the time we still were psyched to try again and again go get a little big further. Style is off the charts but this isnt a game for mainstream.

Super Mario Odyssey - same gameplay as E3 (ice desert and new donk city) and still played great. Tried two seperated joycons instead of my usual pro controller set up and it works very well for throwing your hat. Feels much more like Mario 64 than Sunshine. Funny thing I fell off the temple platforms in the desert and expected to be game over but then I remembered this is an open world level and I could just walk back to the start of the temple section.

Anno 1800 - just a presentation, no playing. They seem big on letting fans influence the development process at least.

Crackdown 3 - just as fun as the first but very little progress ten years later. Was just jumping around and killing baddies but was a little bit bored after 20 minutes. Can see why its delayed. Hopefully it helps.

Super Luckys Tale - never played the Rift version and was pleasantly surprised by the charm and varied gameplay of this platformer, really reminded me of the Rare N64-platformers. Camera was a bit stiff to control though.

Metroid 3DS - aiming takes some getting used to but my god they nailed the vibe. Really felt like a 2D metroid prime, though the demo was a bit lineair but also short so who knows if it opens up.

Sonic Forces - tried 4 levels. Ehh. Feels like a bit of an identity crisis. Cheesy story and lame avatar characters. I prefer the Sonic Mania style gameplay.

Those are the most important games Ive played I think.

I knew I should have tried this... damn.

It doesn't matter who we are, what matters is our plan.
GlamFM annual update :) , Thank you.

Last year your psyched me up with your Gamescom hands on with Forza Horizon 3 if I remember correctly?

Despite moaning once again about having to drive on the wrong side of the road? Damn, the rest of FH3 must have really pumped him up! ;-)

Well, this kind of impression is promising. If a non-fan comes away impressed, that's a good sign for the state of the game

Got such good vibes about Origins. They've been moving in the right direction for four games.

Yeah no problem folks. I mean Ive played most AC games ofcourse but I was pretty much tired of the formula since AC2. Tbh only Black Flag since then has rekindled my interest. Its the change of setting. Was pretty tired of the european like towns. This is so fresh, reaaally cool setting with lots of interesting sights, hidden tombs and interesting pyramids. Combat is muuuuch deeper too, got my ass kicked a few times then decided I wasnt going to learn the new combat system in just an hour with pr folks breathing down my neck so went the sneaking route, which was still challenging. Flying with the eagle is awesome and gives you a great view as well. Like I said, they do have to fix the bugs on time though, but thats par for the course on a game event. Here's hoping.

And please don't sleep on Mario Odyssey. Lol, like any Nintendo fan would do that.

Great to hear about foza, that and mario odyssey are easily my two most anticipated games this year. More and more ive been getting excited for assassins creed origins. It looks seriously impressive and has me interested in a way i havent been in ac in years, so im thrilled to hear positive impressions. Game is giving me serious witcher 3 vibes

Can't freaking wait for AC Origins. I'm so glad that they did some serious revamping. What system did you play it on?

Did you try out any of the environmental destruction? Or wasn't it implemented in the demo?

Yeaaah thats why I just went one day with my colleagues this year, only tuesday. We're from the netherlands so its a 3 hour drive, manageble to do in one day. I mean, most appointments are in the seperate business center anyway (so much better than E3 where most big games have to be played on the show floor) but theres aaaaaalways this one appointment at gamescom that needs you on the show floor and it fucks up your entire scedule because you have to push (almost literally) through the thousands of consumers. One day was enough with a sizable team and E3 coverage. Just cherry pick the stuff thats new for gamescom. If you have that luxury ofcourse.

Xbox One X in 4K, well at first. Thing is, all the systems were connected to capture equipment which is fantastic of course, but some were buggy and made the tv screen go black, when they scaled back to 1080p it worked so most of the demo I played in 1080p. Still looked great. I want to underline that this was in no way Ubi's fault or the Xbox One X, probably shitty capture equipment that some company delivered and the guys even told me they were busy till 5 in the morning getting it to work, well kinda work. F'd up that stuff like that happens to those developers but again, par for the course on a game event.

Ehhh... good point. Noticed nothing of the sort at least. Just shooting and hitting bad guys with bullets and cars :/

Destiny 2 - Just like the BETA, but with slightly lower TTK and a new weapon balance. Preferred the balance over the one in the BETA.

Mind explaining this a bit more? What do you mean by a new weapon balance?

For those who played AC Origins, I have two questions -

1. Can you turn off the compass that's located at the top of the screen?
2. Are you required to use the Eagle in the game or can you pretty much ignore/avoid it?

Thanks for the impressions!

Forza 7, Mario Odyssey, The Crew 2, Assassin's Creed Origin, Metroid Samus Return all delivering like I hoped from the sound of it. Forza 7 as game of the show had me smiling, still can't believe we'll get a full-fledged Forza for the PC this time! :)

Worrysome Cuphead impressions, I hope they add an easy mode so we all can enjoy that beautiful art all the way through it.

Too short cable on SNES Mini is just crazy after all the complaints. :/

The boss levels in Cuphead have an easy mode but its still hard. I dunno, I had a lot of fun even though the game kicked my ass and by retrying it over and over again I managed to beat a few levels and bosses. Its not for the mainstream, again, but I at least liked it?

Yeah the cable on the SNES Mini is insane. Its 150cm (dunno what that is in feet). 100cm extra would mean a world of difference, but of course wireless would be even better.

Thanks for the impressions guys! Can't visit Gamescom myself due to work 😞 so this thread is most welcome!

Ordered Forza 7 Ultimate Edition, Assassin's Creedence, Mario and Samus and according to the impressions that wasn't a bad idea 😉

Any impressions on Kingdom Battle, Wolfenstein 2 and South Park?
