IGN: Skyrim on Switch first hands on gameplay video

You can't seriously compare 3DS and Switch as if they're 1 generation apart. The 3ds graphics belong in the early 2000s.

Of course an insane leap after more than a decade of graphics technology.

Not technology wise. They're not.

The 3DS and Switch are a generation apart. I'm not sure what/why you are trying to argue here. The 3DS being early 2000 technology in your timeline doesn't matter much to those of us who live in reality, where it came out in 2011 and was followed up by the Switch in 2017.

So, any confirmation that it's the Remastered version, or base? A mix of both?

Can't watch the video yet

People get 100-200 hours out of it lol, worth a buy.

200 hours?

I have gotten 600 hours out of it on PC with mods and I still have a lot of unfinished quests and miscellaneous quests.

The replayability of Skyrim can't simply be formulated in words.

The GameXplain video looked really good. Portable mode is all i really care about, but I hope it looks nice when I decide to put it up on the big screen every once in a while.

It still boggles the mind how much handheld tech has improved. I mean if you compare 3DS to Switch, purely as handhelds, the gap is truly staggering.

We've gone from this:

To this:

Sure it may not be impressive compared to Uncharted, but as a generational leap in handhelds... It's fricking insane.

It would be more genuine to compare the Vita to Switch, but even then Switch stomps the crap out of it, very impressive from Nintendo.

And the equivalent jump for consoles would be PS2 to PS3.

3DS look a bit better than ps2 graphics quality wise, but Switch looks really quite a bit better than PS3. And that's before you even take into account the massive jump in resolution.

Incredible handheld, really.

Uc3 to UC 4 I would argue is no where near the jump of the above^ Even just resolution is like quadrupled and then on top of that the detail in what is actually being rendered

Even if you compare it against the Vita it's greater than a gen leap.

It's just like one of the single largest leaps we've seen between generations if you compare it to 3DS.

Insanely powerful kit.

I mean....I guess its cool to have it on the go, but I can't say I've been waiting around since 2011 wishing I had a portable Skyrim.

I'm sure people weren't waiting around since 1998 for a portable OoT either, but that doesn't mean it wasn't cool when it happened.

I mean, 3DS was underpowered from the get go. I'd love to see some Vita vs Switch screens. No doubt Switch is a jump from that tho.

3DS and Vita aren't as far apart as people think. 3D and putting an image on both screens takes a lot out of the thing, hence the low resolution screens.

back when skyrim first came out i thought how cool it'd be with motion controls. now we're in the age of 4k, mods (which are new-ish to me) and VR i'm kind of like "ehh..." portable is nice but not a seller for me

glad this exists though. may buy it just to dork out over how well it may or may not perform on switch

Neither have I, but big RPGs are great to have in portable form. I never finish them on stationary consoles, but having hardware that allows me to play them in 30-45 minute bursts whenever/wherever increases the chances I will significantly. My most recent example is Dragon Quest VIII. I played 40 or so hours of the PS2 version and never finished it, but put 90+ hours into the 3DS version and finished pretty much everything including the post game hall of champions fights (or whatever they're called).

Hopefully this does well. I expected Japan to be on board with RPGs, but if the Switch can get some decent WRPGs too, that would nice. I'm totally getting this and Battle Chasers.

What? No, the 3DS doesn't have better graphics than PS2

It's not as powerful but it can handle more modern effects. Resident Evil Revelations would not have looked as good on the PS2. Few games really took advantage on the hardware in a way that made it look superior to the PS2 unfortunately.

No, the 3ds beats the ps2 in almost every measure except resolution. The dual arm11 processor and dedicated graphics card beats the EE and VUs.

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.

Which all means little when you're viewing it through a poopy 240p screen.

The 3DS and PSVita wasn't actually a full generation apart. The geometry rendering for the 3DS, for example, was a bit under the range of the GCN (3D rendering used up half of the GPU), while PSVita was still within range of the PS2/GCN/XBox era. Uncharted: Golden Abyss was stated to have over 260000 polygons per frame @ 30fps at, which is 7.8 million polygons/sec. That game also ran at 720 x 408, which is 56% of PSVita's native resolution. In comparison, the GCN was stated to handle 6-12 million polygons/sec. PSVita's modern shaders capabilities and efficient design pushed it to render visuals much closer to the consoles, though.

The Switch, even undocked, is beyond the 7th generation consoles and the Wii U by at least several significant levels, so that is a huge step up even compared to the PSVita.

I'm happy to see how well Skyrim Switch looks. I may have to check it out.

This game is such a great fit for the Switch.

I loved Oblivion but never got into Skyrim...I could see that changing with this (unless Ballad of Champions is like 30 hours of new great shit).

Looking at gameplay it's blowing my mind that a game this big is running on a portable console. I feel like in a lot of ways smartphones were a blessing in disguise for Nintendo. They catapulted mobile processing growth to the point where this is possible.

The big 3d companies entered the mobile sector in the last years and the form factor if the Switch isn't exactly the same as the 3DS or even Vita.

I wouldn't go that far.

They've still eaten into their marketshare in a huge way.

It's made close to console caliber visuals possible in a handheld form though. That is a definite perk, but I'm sure Ninty would prefer to have 150 million 3DS users over a cheaper very powerful chipset. :)

Why doesn't this has a release date yet?

We don't know Nintendo's November and December dates for Switch releases yet. Nintendo loves to announce everything just 1-2 months in advance now. We don't even know at all what they will release in Q1 2018.

It seems all of the impressions have been extremely positive in regards to performance. The Digital Foundry comparison when the game launches will be very interesting.

Why doesn't this has a release date yet?

There are a lot of Switch games releasing in Fall that we don't have dates on yet. Hopefully we get a Direct in the next week or two that gives us details on the schedule for the rest of the year. Tons of games I'm interested in but I need to know the release schedule.

I didn't know we had footage of the game since July. I'm curious about the performance and glitches this port will bring.

Well, is still Bethesda, but as DF said, RAM alone will help to alleviate many issued that the 360, and specially the Ps3 had.
