Halo 5: Guardians |OT5| Is HaloGAF irrelevant now?

Yes, the H5 campaign was one of the worst campaigns ever. Not sure what they were thinking.

It was the one of the worst Halo campaigns (4 is worse), but by genre standards it's OK. That's not good enough though, it needs to be a good Halo campaign. Halo has stood apart from other games by delivering a great multiplayer and campaign, 343 has failed to deliver on that in their two tries. 6 needs to be well rounded, a good campaign and a multiplayer suite that's not missing features at launch. I still think 343 could be trail blazers and put Halo at the top of the genre with developer quality map making tools. Forge is nice, actually being able to make dev quality maps would be better, especially with Halo's robust custom game tools.

So far, 343 has just been chasing trends. Halo used to innovate and stand out. What Bungie did was copied by everyone. It'll suck a lot if H6 is just another follower.
 
Halo was built into a shining beacon of what a console FPS should be, even if its not perfect.

Halo 4 turned the campaign into hallways and small spaces with an interesting story. amazing graphics for the 360 era. MP was too much of a change having loadouts, kill stream rewards and a br nerf. only redeeming thing that happened was that for some reason btb was fun. slayer was shit. and i love slayer.

Halo 5 upgraded to 60fps, larger campaign areas but stepped back with the coop ai and then stepped back even further with the story. I literally had no idea who juldama was or even cared after that first mission. It was the first mission right? lol

Cinematics were on point though! then with the MP, it was fine tuned and i loved it. was Really hard to get good and to keep that consistency. However, the aiming caused issues that required multiple updates for a fix... and its still not. launching basically barebones and then using forge maps to fill playlists. Short on staff? Who thought this out and said, yeah we will be okay with less content because WARZONE is what everyone will want to play!!! nah, wz is an addition, not a replacement.

i just really hope i dont get the same story about halo 6 and when i play, i have to wait until the first "free" content update for playlists/features/weapons that should have been there day 1.

Wouldn't mind if did something along the lines of Mass Effect Andromeda's strike missions as a metagame considering the state of the galaxy.

e.g. UNSC Ops - Firefight wave survival or other focused objective. Change it up with ODST or Spartan IV players depending on the map/planet/ship location.

Take Long Night of Solace as inspiration and have players board a station/ship, defend, whatever. Take a page from Doom's snapmap feature to create these sorts of levels quickly from cookie-cutter rooms - or I guess more like how Diablo pieces things together.

Out of curiosity, how would you balance the auto in a Halo game? Because, I mean, autos are autos, they don't really require skill to be used, they are not precision weapons, so I'm curious how you would increase the skill gap for autos.

for the human rifles I'd probably

SMG) i'd keep the large reticle, but significantly reduce magnetism. I'd decrease the time it takes to reach maximum spread.

Pulsing shots would allow for 100% precision in exchange for a longer TTK. full- auto would be harder to wield, greatly decreasing accuracy, but if you could manage to land all shots, TTK would remain pretty quick.

This would decrease the effective range and add skill to CQC, without decreasing the damage-per-shot

AR) I'd ditch the large reticle and random spread in favor of a small reticle (like Destiny's auto rifles) static recoil pattern and reduced aim assist.

Pulsing shots would return the reticle to neutral allowing for 100% precision in exchange for a longer TTK. Full-Auto would allow for a quick TTK, but you'd have to be good at compensating for the recoil.

In either case, the guns would still be easy to use (simply spraying would still be effective at lower levels of play where players strafes aren't advanced) but harder to master i.e. skill gap

Also with these tweaks the autos would be useful for harassing people at midrange, but not so good at killing them.

STORM RIFLE) I'd slow down the projectile speed and lower the magnetism.

BRUTE PLASMA RIFLE) lower the DPS, landed shots slow opponents down.

Now that they aren't actually trying to sell maps I'd love to see 343 release some proper map development tools on PC.

Give us Forge on steroids, the community will happily develop all of the content Halo would ever need.

What, actually support player-created content in a non-half-assed way? Why would they go do a crazy thing like make an investment that would then continuously improve their product for free? It just makes too much sense.

To be fair, 343 is not the only developer missing out on this opportunity. It does make more sense with Halo than other games due to Forge and the modularity of the game. There's tons of potential there. I still play Skyrim from 2011 because of the mod support. Obviously Halo can't go that far due to multiplayer, but a real map editor would be a huge boon to the player base.

I'm pretty sure it's coming in 2018. The current trilogy is on a 3 year cycle.

But I guess I could see them take another year. Would mean the feedback of Halo 5 really got to them.

Don't be so hopeful. They refuse to enter conversation about their art style or the removal of sprint. They'll probably make another linear campaign that's not a self contained story.

The only Halo campaign we've had which wasn't linear was ODST (and CE in like 3 levels...)

Hopefully, I can't do this multiplayer anymore.

Sick of Strongholds (please bring back KOTH). Sick of maps. Sick of smurfs.

Every Halo game has had at least 1 multiplayer map I wanted them to remake and bring back but I don't think I'll be asking for a single map of H5

Halo VR (halo wars and halo wars 2 support)

i do not expect fps halo VR. tech isnt advanced yet. Unless its just a vr demo of us walking around the infinity.. LOL
