How do you boost forward? I press circle (since that's what I mapped it to) and it just makes me go up into the air.

I'm really LOVING this game on 1v1. Right now, I'm running the Tallgeese since I was looking for a decent 300 to bring to that mode. And if it's not Tallgeese, I run the Hyaku Shiki for everything else, since I've had Hyaku Shiki since Next+ on PSP.

Move in a direction and double tap the button to boost.

And damn that clutch Exia Repair gimmick won me a game earlier in 2v2. Don't think that Sandrock player expected it.

G-Arcane is pretty fun. I think I like shooting suits more, just because I blank out whenever I get up close and forget about side stepping or melee or anything else.

Doesn't seem to work for me.

I move forward and double tap O and nothin.

Specifically I have O mapped to Boost Dive.

Also damn, I was having a fight against Rau but the lag kicked in and gave me an error. Seems to be happening more.

Having some issues with Gouf Custom. Sometimes when I press R2 to grapple, the suit will do a melee rush attack instead. Just lost a match when this happened a bunch and it really sucked. Anyone know why this happens?

Boost and Boost Dive are two separate things. Boost Dive lets you fast fall from the air.

Is there a way to only search for matches from users with a certain ping? Every single match in 2v2 or 3v3 is laggy as hell

Yeah this shit is crazy. Really souring me on the game.

You know what's souring me on the game?
The netcode is straight up broken for me. Anything outside of 1v1 or coop becomes a 1 bar match. I never had a smooth 2v2 ever.
Whatever they did with the FB netcode, I want it back.

tl;dr:
I wanted Gundam Versus, but got a broken netcode instead.

Wouldn't surprise me if this some kind of bug with the netcode. Tried the JPN Beta, JPN full version and now the western open beta. No dice, completely unplayable laggy mess.

What does the Zero System and L2 move do for Sandrock (the one where his Shotel glow and he charges forward, but not the grab)?

Also, can you get AI to fill in for private matches in the full game, because I'm in the UK, and I have a feeling that this is going to be dead online in a month or so over here?

I'm enjoying it so far, but not being able to play with friends on the beta unless you can get 4 people together is rough.

The Zero System (as well as other similar buffs for suits like Blitz's Mirage Colloid) prevent the enemy's attacks from tracking you. They'll still be locked on, but it treats you like you were in green lock even in red lock.
I think you also take more damage if you do manage to get hit while it's active though.

Been enjoying the combat in this game. Been doing 3vs3 primarily. Gradually mastering the controls.

So many mechs!

But I wonder why do we earn GP? I guess in the regular game you buy upgrades or something??

They needed the tutorial to be in the beta.

At the moment it's easy to tell who played the Japanese release when they're doing all of this crazy shit and are near impossible to hit.

The controls menu doesn't really help.

Also yeah, the Freedom needs to be buffed in terms of speed of doing stuff.

It takes far too long to do well, anything on him. Even 'bigger' characters can do circles around him.
Completely agree about the Tutorial.

Many of Freedom's moves just leave it open a lot, I played the old Gundam Vs. Seed games back on PS2 and it feels similar in concept but Freedom here certainly doesn't feel very agile which is one of the trademarks of the design. It needs better mobility but it would make more sense if it was Strike Freedom with the Dragoons available. That said, I may just need more time with it and the various other units to really know how if Freedom is simply not as good as it could be. Might be a cost thing too, for a 400 unit it doesn't seem especially powerful since the beam spams are so easy to dodge and completely leave it open although it does make up for that for being fairly versatile for both close and ranged combat it just feels like in general its missing something.

Is there any way to bring up the pause / start menu during an online match? My brother and I played ultimate battle and we couldn't find any way to exit but to finish the entire 15 rounds.

Those having sync and lag issues when I have played the Japanese version this did occur but really not as often as in this beta. So that can mean one of two things:

1. They are still trying to fine tune the net code to fit the western world.

Or

2. The internet in Japan is much better than many places in North America and Europe etc. Where unless you have decent internet you are going to lag up everyone else in a match.

Now granted other games have done a better job with their net code then how this beta is running but I just wanted to get my thoughts out there.

Why in god's name did they not include the tutorial in this beta? It needs it really bad.

Impressions so far are kinda ehhh, even as a big Gundam fan. Gonna play more tomorrow but right now I don't think I really want to spend $60 on this. Netcode is awful as well (I know it's a beta, but still) I'd probably enjoy it a lot more if it wasn't running at like 3fps most of the matches.

Without a proper tutorial I am out.

The game has a LOT going on for a newcomer like me, and without an explanation I am lost.

Wow, was not expecting to fall in love with the G-reco suits but man they are really fun. If only the show was just as good.

Have you tried combining the rolling move with the attacks? I've been doing much better after learning that trick. Feels a lot more mobile.

R2 to roll then press L2/L1/Square and it'll use those attacks mid-roll. Will also work with a melee attack if you're close enough.

Getting the winning kill with an upside down Full Burst is great

I have and its a great utility but its the normal movement that I think feels the most off. Freedom feels oddly heavy or clunky when it should be more agile (and I think it was more agile in the PS2 games but its been a looong time since I played those XD)

Again might help if it was Strike Freedom and had the Dragoon system to make up for it but as of now I think it feels a bit under-powered compared to other 400 units I've tried.

Edit: Also as other people have said, the net code for this beta is very concerning and makes me very concerned about picking the game up day one but we shall see.

It's actually kinda hilarious, because the description of the beta includes the Tutorial. Even Dissidia NT has a tutorial video in the game.

Gundam Versus itself isn't too difficult, but without knowing basic mechanics and how to utilize them it becomes a slog to play.
Adding veteran players to the mix who ravish destroying beginners, one can imagine the outcome.
Sometimes I think BN wants the game to bomb hard.

Also those who like to play singleplayer, what's in the beta is about everything that the full game offers. The only difference is the volume of the current modes, that you'll have to unlock ALL Strikers, some alternative pilots for some MS and a handful of navigators like Haro. The unlocking itself is very grindy, because not only do you have to earn enough GP, you also need to "level up" the Mobile Suits before they become available for GP purchase.
Also the Time/GP ratio for singleplayer is terrible. From what I recall playing online is pretty much the best way to earn GP.

Impressions so far are kinda ehhh, even as a big Gundam fan. Gonna play more tomorrow but right now I don't think I really want to spend $60 on this.

To be brutally honest here, the japanese version already has a barrage of DLC units. So you might not exactly be looking at a once and done investment of $60, but possibly an amount of DLC that far exceeds the cost of the initial game.
We are just 3 months in and are approaching 7 DLC units, excluding the 3 preorder bonus units.
The japanese pricing is at about $6 per DLC unit. So far nothing is known about the western pricing.

Netcode is awful as well (I know it's a beta, but still) I'd probably enjoy it a lot more if it wasn't running at like 3fps most of the matches.

Make no mistake this isn't really a "beta". The japanese version has been released since beginning of July and I have seen no netcode changes so far. I'm hoping for improvements, but my expectations are incredibly low.

Man, 2v2's are kind of hit or miss in terms of playability, but I haven't found a single 3v3 that's actually been playable. Every single time it's a complete stutterfest, usually ending in a disconnect due to desync after 30 seconds.

I watched a couple streams when the Japanese release came out, and 3v3 seemed way smoother than anything I'm getting. I wonder if the netcode was balanced for incredible Asian connection speeds or something?

I'm not sure what's wrong with the netcode/matchmaking but it's been terrible so far. Nothing but unplayable slideshows except for maybe one match.

Edit: And right as i say that, i get an amazing running match. So it's definitely possible.

Then we went for the rematch and right when it starts the room is disbanded T.T

That's a real shame. I was really looking forward to this, but the netcode in the beta is completely unplayable, and since multiplayer was what I was looking forward to the game is basically worthless if the netcode stays as it is.

During the 1 hour of playing the beta (all 2v2 matches), I had a total of 1 match that felt okay. Everything else was a completely unplayable slideshow. I really hope this is just a result of some bug that will be fixed by release.

Yeah it's wack. My runs haven't been too terrible (like 80 percent of my matches in 2v2 were fine but the rest were straight garbo) b ut considering it's an online only game in terms of multiplayer, this shit should be perfect.

I bought the Premium G Soundtrack edition and wasn't able to play one single smooth 2v2 or 3v3. So in a sense the game is nothing more than a paper weight for me right now.
I'd like to see those who have issues to try 1v1. Because that's the only mode that has been playable for me.

To be fair though. The predecessor on PS3 had a good netcode, so there is some hope. I have no idea what they changed that turns it into this mess.

EDIT: I really wanted this game to be successful, but so far I got nothing but disappointment. Adding their DLC output and pricing to that, which dwarfes other fighting games, I'm currently wary recommending this game at full price.

Banged out around 15 games before work with little to no lag. Felt weird to play new players after messing around with the JP version for so long.

I really hope this catches on in the West.

Yeah 1v1 was fine and had some decent 3v3 matches. But then at some point all I got was a bunch sync issues and lag (in the 3v3)

Kind of thinking to wait on a price drop. Like maybe after 1 or 2 months

Can anyone explain to me what Throne Zwei does when called in by Throne Eins? Trying to figure that out and have come up dry.

Now I can't even join 2v2 or 3v3 matches, every single time I get kicked because of a connection error.

Well this beta, which I'd been super excited for, has completely soured me on the game. Unless the netcode is actually fixed for NA, I'm not getting it.

Tried it out, and yeah. Mostly good to great matches in that so far. Weird.

In my case, even if the connection of others are 2 bars or more usually turns to 1 bar. Which shouldn't be the case, but somehow happens.
When you are playing you can see the connection quality at the bottom of the screen. In 1v1 I had 2 bar once and that was still good enough.

The preorder comes with 3 DLC units: Lupus, Virtue and Hot Scramble.
Hot Scramble doesn't seem to be available for purchase in Japan for now. So no idea how they are going to handle it. It's one of the best units in the game though.

On the other hand, they might release DLC you want post release. So saving money on a sale would be a good idea. The first 5 are out in Japan, another 2 are confirmed to come.
But as I said, so far there is no information about how they are going to handle the DLC here.

Here's the official listing of all MS. Those marked as NEW are the DLC units. Just in case one of them catches your eye.

Can anyone explain to me what Throne Zwei does when called in by Throne Eins? Trying to figure that out and have come up dry.

It at least acts like a power bank and increases ammo. Not sure, if it also instantly reloads on activation.

Surprisingly my 2v2 matches last night and today were pretty much lag-free, outside of one.

tfw both you and your teammate are using Freedom and you win:

Zero System throws off the targeting of your opponents for a short time making it easier to dodge or get in and attack. L2 should be a shotel charge that pushes you towards the enemy and has a projectile barrier to let you get in on the enemy.

How do you chat to your partners? I just got two games where I got a "thank you" at the end but didn't know how to respond.
