LEGO |OT6| We Only Build in Black. And Sometimes Very Dark Grey.

I just built the Sonic Dimensions kit, and man, I wish they'd make an entire theme out of Sonic.

There's tons of robots they could make buildable, along with a large amount of characters to make minifigs for.

Eggman Hammer: Comes with a buildable Eggman Hammer from Aquatic Ruin, a buildable totem, a buildable Grounder, Tails and Eggman minifigs
Master Emerald Shrine: Comes with a buildable Master Emerald shrine, a buildable Eggrobo, and a Knuckles minifig
Tornado: Minifig scale Tornado with Tails and Sonic minifigs. And buildable flying turtle badnik
Stardust Speedway: A small section of Star Dust Speedway, Metal Sonic and Amy minifigs, buildable Flickies and a buildable animal button holder thing with button push explosion action feature
UCS Green Hill Zone: A buildable version of the Smash Brawl GHZ, with a large loop, a buildable powerup TV, checkpoint, Motobug, Buzz Bomber, and Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Eggman minifigs.
Hard Boiled Heavy King Polybag
Sonic 3 Mecha Sonic Polybag

It's such a waste they have the rights to Sonic Lego and do nothing...

Lucked out and shot one of the Old Fishing Store sets at shopforme for 20% off. Good thing I didn't buy it from S@H for rrp and super slow shipping. Not too sure why they felt the need to discount it, it sold out in 2 days.

First big set since Parisian Cafe for me.

The actual level pack game is really good too. It feels exactly like a legofied Sonic game

So odds on BB-8 and Old Fishing Store being on sale in January? My Lego budget is likely going to be real low (having to buy a new computer/laptop) until then yet I really want to own both sets.

EDIT: By "on sale" I just mean in stock.

No doubt BB-8 will be on sale somewhere for
at least 20% off by then.

Not so sure on OFS.

See the edit. Sorry for the confusion :( My only income being student loans means I've got very set dates for when money comes in. I could probably buy the MF in January if I wanted!

In that case you ought to be safe for both. I can't see OFS going out of stock that fast. BB-8 will be around at least a year. Probably longer.

Yep, agreed. BB-8 will be around through next summer for sure and I suspect that the fishing store will get heavily discounted...Outside of the Apollo, it really feels like Ideas sets don't have productive shelf lives for very long.

So I made an "infinity cube" tonight based on the instructions in the video below. I have to say I'm pretty impressed with the simple complexity of it. My girls will love it.

Thanks! BB-8 sounds fine, and it sounds like the OFS will at the very least be in stock at RRP. I'll look to get them in January, then.

Mattel is lot worse off than LEGO, if you add up their Q1 and Q2 reports they ended up in similar sales loss as LEGO (citing the same markets ). And totally they did not even turned profit but went ~150m USD in loss, while LEGO still keeps their ~30% operating profit.

MEGA is also mentioned there as part of construction toys division which went down about 30% in the 1H and the total numbers are nowhere the total sales or LEGO sales. I'd say how corporate works, with loss on total, they would hardly invest in MEGA with the purpose to fight LEGO.

And just to have the whole info, Hasbro was up, but their operating profit is nowhere near LEGO. Plus it seems the biggest gain was done on 'gaming' division and even 3rd party licenses (franchise) went down.

Nice breakdown. Do you do a investing? I only go to that level when it's a company I'm looking to trade stock.

I'm a bit shocked at the 30% for their construction division. I know MEGA doesn't sell like LEGO as I see MEGA has stuff on clearance all the time, but I do see some sets get cleared out. Perhaps lower interest in Halo? Companies that are negative still will invest in areas if they see potential growth down the road. Unless they are grooming for a sale and don't care about long term or something like that.

EDIT: MEGA has been around a long time despite their lower quality reputation. Who knows, here's what's left of Hasbro's attempt at construction blocks. https://www.hasbro.com/en-us/brands/kreo

Apparently TrU might be going out of business?

Dang, what's left if they go away? Walmart, Target, and Amazon? Need more stores to carry LEGO so we get more clearance LEGO.

I'm hoping for an improved UCS ISD, but would also like a tantive (which I'm surprised hasn't even come out at any scale, after featuring in Rebels so much).

Looks like my BB8 should get delivered today, just have to see where Yodel will leave it as that can be a lottery!

https://brickset.com/sets/10198-1/Tantive-IV
https://brickset.com/sets/10019-1/Rebel-Blockade-Runner

That's another possibility for UCS set.
Another UCS ISD is possible, but I definitely wonder if LEGO will start squeezing in some new stuff and make a UCS First Order Star Destroyer in a few years. Hmmm...current one they just released is $150!!! That's already UCS pricing!!!! Is $200+ the new price target for UCS stuff?

Halfway through building the old fishing store and loving it
It's bigger than it looks in pictures, I actually didn't realize it came with/takes up a baseplate :O
It's basically another bonus modular building

Not here, did some hobby investing before so this helped to have a quick look on the reports. I'm sure if I'd go in depth there would be some corrections.

I agree a company can invest in such areas, the problem being why did they not do it before with MEGA brand?
First the numbers in report are for all of their construction toys specifically mentioning MEGA and some RoseArt (which I have no information about so can't even guess their share of numbers in that area). And also mentioning the fall specifically for MEGA brand. So on one side you have a ailing brand that is fraction of your sales (around 5% ) on other side giant like LEGO which is almost purely selling just that one type of toy and has more sales than your mixed company alone. Not a good prospect.
Second is what they did with MEGA until now. It seems they have only 2 main areas, the kids early stuff and then licensed stuff mostly taking on licenses the LEGO does not want or has (mostly action gaming with a little sprinkle of Star Trek). They could probably not get head on with LEGO, but why not use LEGO "weaknesses" and just try to go in areas where they stopped themes or won't go. Take for example polish COBI in Europe, they go for army stuff and it sells (with a big help being cheaper than LEGO here).
So yes, they could use some underdog tactics to get some construction toys customer, but I'd say it is one risky investment in times when the company is not well to go against your biggest competitor...

BTW this report is worth a short thought
https://www.npd.com/wps/portal/npd/...t-mid-way-through-2017-reports-the-npd-group/
The 'Building Sets' have the worst results. The question being, can LEGO's fall be attributed to general toy type fall or is LEGO's share so big they make the most of the general decline ? ;) ... while LEGO SW being the 10th toy property in sales (would be nice to know if other themes are also split and how)

What famous Star Wars landmarks have a shot of becoming UCS playsets in the near or far future? Could the Death Star playset get an overhaul? And seeing as how these Star Wars UCS sets are relatively young in concept, what is the long term business model? Star Wars iconography is popular, but not as ubiquitous as city building sets? You can shuffle the starship roster, but eventually the ideas will fall back into rotation.

Death Star just had a rerelease/update last year.

I think we'll see some new trilogy ships coming up in UCS. TFA didn't have many new designs, but I can see the next UCS X-Wing be a T-70 with the split wings (and unlike the minifig scaled set, the uCS one will probably have the two parts really fit together into one part.) I feel TLJ has some interesting new designs, so we might get one of those too, depending on how iconic they get.

My son keeps asking me for the Sonic Dimensions kit but I'm not paying £25 for what is effectively 1 minifig and a couple of little vehicles - you can get a decent proper LEGO set for that money. We haven't got the game and I'm adamant we're not going down the toys-to-life rabbit hole.

So, yeah, proper Sonic LEGO please.

If you have or know somebody with Amazon UK Prime membership, it is there for £15

Hmm, there is lot of Sonic figs on BL and majority of the cheap ones with high stock in Czech Rep., considering that Dimensions was not sold there in shops I'm curious how it came ... maybe that there is a packaging and distribution center plays a role

at one point Dimensions booster packs were showing up in poundland and B&M bargains, maybe they were smart enough to buy up a few pallets of Hedgehogs

Speaking of Mega Construx Pokemon, how's the Gyarados?

That one's been tempting me for awhile, at 20 dollars it's not really expensive at all, but the reviews are mixed on if it's fiddly and fragile, or actually a nice thing.

I can't say how it is, but I discovered these the other day and I would love to get a Gyarados - I think it would look great vs the Ninjago Green Dragon Mech - but they're super expensive here in Australia, like $60, $70. I'd bite at that $30 mark for sure.

In Czech Rep. Dimensions did not went to retail and is blocked even on official S&H, so I doubt somebody would just dump them to low cost stores locally.

I got the Portal Pack from Walmart for 5 dollars a year or two ago

You'd think what basically amounts to pop culture Smash Bros, that the game would have done better.

I ended up buying it from Amazon for 21. Comes on Friday, but I don't know when I'll get around to putting it together, since my Star Wars stuff (at least the stuff that wasn't backordered) is coming on Saturday.

Also I'm getting a Cockatiel tomorrow, so I'll be busy.

If you do end up building it, let me know if it is worthwhile, I do like the look of it.

I used Bricklink for the first time on Monday. Placed five orders and all should be here by Saturday. I probably spent too much to get the random pieces I wanted... a couple orders were below minimum so I ended up adding some minifigs (finally, an Admiral Ackbar).

I can see myself getting in trouble with random shopping on this thing...

Bricklink is a slippery slope, but is also invaluable for finding the right elements that you need, and discovering new ones that you never knew you needed.

One of the weirdest and funniest things I've noticed about Bricklink is that every store has Droid parts. It doesn't matter if they sell Star Wars stuff, or just random bricks, or whatever. They will have Droid parts. Always arms, sometimes torsos. Never heads, never legs.

I just assumed that was because those parts were used in other sets before Star Wars and somehow got named after droid appendages anyway.

It's great! I used it for the first time when a second-hand set I purchased was missing some parts. Thanks to Bricklink I had them within days.
Since then I've used it a lot. Both for new full sets and parts. I've used it to manually re-create some smaller sets that I could not find for sale in the normal way (or not for an acceptable price). So I looked up the parts, put them in a list and ordered them.

I spend far too much on Bricklink, always small "topup" orders. Unfortunately many £10-£20 orders per month soon add up...

So I've been megahyped for the UCS Falcon ever since the rumors circulated earlier this year. Now that the day to actually order it is like a week away, I'm starting to fall back on the idea of getting it now a bit, mainly because of price tag and no place to put it. Decisions :(

Those arms are great for fingers on robots

Welp. Two additional models it is. How do I get the manuel for that one?

BTW, I used a custom fix the the tail of the Rex. Didnt liked how I couldnt moved it around, so I exchanged the rounded 2x2.

Ok spoilers for The new IT movie:

So there's a Lego model in the film, a brick built green turtle. I need to look closer but I swear it uses two kinds of green AND round 1x1 tiles for eyes. Now the movie is set in 1989. Pretty sure when I was a kid there was very little green Lego - I recall all I bet had was the base plates. Certainly not a lot of bricks and certainly not more than one shade.

I'd have to look closer if I see it again though.

Maybe someone else who has seen can confirm. I also admit I probably wasn't playing with Lego in the late 80s so maybe I'm totally mistaken.

NERD ALERT. Lol.

Oh good movie, btw. I recommend it.

I'm hesitant because lots of people recommended the cat and mouse set a few years back and I really didn't like it. Good parts though.

I still give a nod to Turbo Track Racer this year.
